Having missed the end of the voting, and the extended voting period and stuff I’m now very confused as to what the hell happened, i’m not so bothered about the coming second (or not winning), etc but can someone explain the X and Y votes and stuff to me?

Oh and just so I don’t sound totally grumpy; Congratulations Imp2 :D It was a great contest, I was expecting the tie and would have let whoever I was tying with me have the Kred Prize anyway so…

(Imp2 was a very close third)

Personally I don’t feel that some of the entries really used the collection theme all that well, I chose these 2 because they seemed to use the collection theme as part of the game mechanic rather than just part of the backstory.

PhotoCollection was a nice, pretty unique experience that used the collecting mechanic well (and the 3d movement was awesome)

Klecter was pretty simple in terms of gameplay but i really like how it looks and the collection theme was obvious and well implemented.

Didn’t get as much as I wanted done (Only got one of the endings partially finished) so you basically can’t really lose right now. I was hoping to have a bad ending (if you hadn’t installed the brain and heart), the good ending you see now if you had the heart and brain both installed, and a perfect ending if you had all parts installed.

But time waits for no dev so here’s as much as I could get done.

The player’s movement animation looks kind of bad but it’ll do for now. You’ll see that I spent most of the time getting from an endless shower of body parts to how it should be, a 60 second “night” of collecting. Originally I was just going to use the moon’s movement as the time indicator but I wasn’t sure it’d be obvious enough. What do people think?

There are basically 2 types of parts in my game.
1. Special Parts, these are 5 vital organs that only spawn once each day, you need to collect them all for your monster before the week is up. Stuff like the heart and the brain, etc
2. Generic parts like the hands and bones and guts are the ones you see loads of, you use these as currency that you use up as you “install” the special parts.

Well I finally have something that vaguely resembles gameplay.

This is just a part of it though, you’re using body parts to build a frankenstein style monster with the eventual goal of using it do “something”… possibly fighting against something like a robot.

Anyone got any ideas about the Dwarf’s death animation.. For the smaller stuff i’ve just had it sliced in half… Although for a dwarf that seems a little unrealistic. I mean I could have him slice in half and the 2 halves fall away from each other but thats a little gory. Chop his head off perhaps?

Another quick update from me.

Started work on the actual dungeon area. It’s fairly empty at the moment, but you can see 2 of the key rooms. Death’s Bedroom where he spawns/respawns, and the Soul Heart (the giant crystal thing) which you have to protect).

The passage ways which aren’t built yet will lead to empty rooms the player can build in (to the east and west), and the portal where enemies will spawn (to the north)

Sorry for the double post…

A quick preview of what i’ve got done so far

My game idea basically revolves around Death being woken up from his slumber and having to clear out his dungeon which keeps getting increasing numbers of unwanted visitors, you collect gold and build rooms to increase your powers and stuff but these new rooms attract new enemies too. Eventually after upgrading everything and becoming really powerful you attract the goodly Lord of the Realm who comes to try and stop you once and for all.

Yeah it’s inspired by Dungeon Keeper a certain amount although the room building and stuff will work differently. I do want to try and get some of that dark evil humour into it though.

And you know what 90% of them suck (IMO) because they miss the point of Dungeon Keeper entirely. I’ve played most of those (so I might be wrong) but most of them have copied the game mechanic and lost all the charm, wit and generally the stuff that makes it fun. Like you say the key would be finding a nice twist…

PM’d my final version to UG.

I know I could post it here, but I don’t want people to play it until its time to judge. It has a bit of a surprise twist/ending and it won’t be as good on a second playthrough (i.e when people are judging it)… plus a little suspense never hurt anyone.

Ok.. so i’ve taken a psychological twist to my game. I also decreased the time it takes for the flashlight battery to fade.. and even though I know it happens I didn’t notice it until the beam as getting really small. I also just got lost in my own game. So if I can get the levels finished in time I should be ready to upload in a while.

:D reading the feedback I don’t care if I win or not anymore.. I freaked out/creeped out/scared people with a flash game :D awesome.

On a worse note, i made a lovely big open organic cave level today and realised that the bigger the level is.. the worse it lags.. so my lovely big level makes it unplayable. :(

Not much has changed since my last update but I have a temporary death working. Right now its just a short timer to represent the monsters coming. Eventually i’ll spawn a monster within a radius of the player and the death will occur when it reaches the player instead of a set 4 seconds. Click to turn off the flashlight to check it out.

I’m working my way through there now.. i’m doing the death sound for my game. I have a nice roar as the monster realises you’re not protected any more, (silent where running steps should be), a sort of thud as it tackles you, a pained scream and then flesh ripping/chewing bone crunching.. i just need the footsteps haha
