I would like to tell the world that UG is the most wonderful person ever for tackling the chat resizer script. This script made my day better and has much improved my sanity.

I like scooby for his attitude and because you can’t be like “Well I can’t do this” because he gives you a way to do it. Are skateboard wall squats ideal? Maybe not. Will they work? Fuck yeah. I use a stability ball for that and it doesn’t work half as well.

In other news:
Progression on my lifts:

Squat 75→85
Bench 75→80
DL 64→105

I have begun the strong lifts program. Haven’t hit all my lifts yet, but here is what I’m starting out with:

Squat 75
Military press 65
Back row 65
Bench Press 75
DL 65*

*I could have lifted more, but I was working on form. It felt very light. I was taking advantage of the power cage so I could fully deload, which was a big improvement over rack pulls.

Hey TGH, what’s your opinion on benching, squatting, and rowing 3x a week. With OHP and deadlifts on alternate days.

It’s not bad – are you doing them on the same day? (Just to clarify)

Yes, I’m basically modifying the original SS routine to have more frequency.

So it’d be like

xAxBxAx (alternate b and a every week)

A:
-Squat
-Bench
-Row
-Military press

B:
-Squat
-Bench
-Row
-Deadlift

etc etc

Rather similar to Strong Lifts

So an update photo. I’m -25lbs officially. Pics go lightest→heaviest

The black corset is a size 40, the pink/red is a 34. That is a six inch difference, though I think it’s kind of hard to see.

Hey, what do you reccomend for strengthening triceps?

DB lying tricep extension

Or close grip bench press

Dips, dips, dips. You can do these with your legs in different positions to make it more difficult. Extend them out so you’re just resting on your heels for whoa difficulty.

And coincidentally I came here to mention that I did a solid 3×12 of these. Normally I’ve been using one of these or this with a rope and so the jump to bodyweight dips was a little intimidating.

I powered through and then I brushed my damn teeth.

Haven’t had much time/motivation to go to the gym lately. My diet is apparently solid, because I’m still averaging 1-2lb weight loss/week.

I am officially the lightest I’ve been since I got married, one week after my official divorce. :3 That’s 18 lbs lost since May.

I’m trying to work into the Crossfit Workout of the Day routines, but I lack some equipment still and am not quite there.

In the meantime, I love www.bodyrock.tv. Their workouts are FANTASTIC. I love that almost every video shows you three levels of intensity (or there are three videos with the same workout) so that you can come up with the ideal workout for you. It’s mostly body weight strength workouts mixed with HIIT, that 99% you can do without ANY equipment you cannot find at home. The do inverted rows in a lot of workouts and it was the third or fourth video I checked out that included them before they gave a reasonable way to do those at home without the special bodyrocker equipment (and gave a very reasonable option! Broom + two chairs= perfect solution).

And every workout I’ve done so far has had me feeling great during and feeling it hardcore after.

@refreshment topic:
Coconut water! It’s like nature’s sports drink—but better. I wouldn’t drink JUST this, as it’s also a diuretic, but if you’re working up a big sweat for a long period of time, it’s a nice boost.

I second oranges, grapefruits, etc. You can get ’em really cheap down in Florida. Also try cucumber, salad greens, celery, watermelon, etc—any foods that contain a high concentration of water.
-—————-

For my HIIT today I was doing 4 minute intervals of tuck jumps/jump rope, with one minute in between. Total time: 40 minutes Active time: 32 minutes. I don’t have an interval timer, so I was just doing as many as I could before I was dying, counted out to ten then repeated. Worked out fairly well, I think.

Tried to run a mile after and only made a quarter before my legs were like “WTF are you doing?” Considered this an accomplishment.

edit: Totally underestimated the full body impact of jump rope tucks. My abs are sore, my shoulders and arms are sore. My legs aren’t as sore as I thought they would be.

Are you tracking calories? Carbs? etc? What’s unhealthy about a salad is usually the dressing and Caesar dressing is one of the unhealthiest. It is mostly fat that you’re drizzling on your salad (though the light versions are… somewhat better). Vinaigrette dressings can be loaded with sugars and calories. Rule of thumb: Any creamy dressing isn’t very healthy by virtue.

Of course, if you’re going to a high protein, high fat, low carb diet… it’s fine.

I like to put hot salsa on my salads. Or just a little olive oil, dash of pepper and salt and a bit of lemon.

That’s why I ask around and get different opinions. If something sounds wonky to me I get a second or third opinion (Like yours! :D)

I don’t think my ankle is necessarily damaged, I just think it’s weak. I mean, I suppose that I’ve been damaging it over time both with carrying excess weight and with working out so intensely. I want to say it’s a combination of muscle and bone, because when it gives out on me it feels like my legs do after a super intense workout—like jello, can’t support my weight—and while I’m working out it feels like my bones are being jarred together. The brace has helped a ton. I had it on during my HIIT cardio and took it off during my strength workout as I was using machines today and it seemed to get in the way vs help.

Which in other news: 90-minute workout today! 40mins cardio 50mins strength. Took me longer than I expected to do my strength, but I made it. One of the people I admire the most at my gym told me people have been calling me “She-Hulk”, which I take as a compliment because 1) it means people pay attention to what I’m doing and are impressed and 2) She-Hulk is a hot babe, unlike the Hulk who is just big green and ugly.

Oh, and I managed to burn more calories today than I ate. I’m going to end up snacking, because I’m well under my calorie limit, but I found it damn amusing when MFP told me I have 1500 calories left for today after I put in all of my food.

That’s fine. Your brace is there to absorb impact like that – I wear a brace, and at 380 pounds doing tumbling skills and a bunch of other skills, I can easily say they’re reliable. if you’re worried about how it’s applied, have a trainer at the gym apply it for you. Why exactly are people on /r/fitness downing wearing the brace?

Popular consensus was the brace could get in the way of strengthening the ankle and make it weaker. I figured if at other times I work on strengthening it then when I’m not, to protect it.

And yeah, they are really big on templates. I mentioned in a thread that I don’t usually just plan out that day’s workout some people were appalled. They seemed to think I needed to know what I was doing for at least the entire week and following some program.

Not everyone there is like that, though. You can tell the difference between the people who genuinely know what they are talking about, who give better advice from the fittit wannabepopular kids who are regurgitating things they were told/read on the internet. Problem is unless a thread hits the front page it tends not to get seen by the more awesome people and threads not about getting asspats or squats seem to get downvoted to oblivion.

Starting strength is the best routine for a beginner.

I get that it’s very beneficial. However, they seem to recommend it to everyone regardless of skill level or what the person is actually asking.

Also, non-scale victory: I was dripping sweat during my workout today. I find this a goal because though I get sweaty, looking around the gym I never seemed to get AS sweaty as the people who are my gym role-models. I felt like I wasn’t able to push myself as hard as I wanted to. And today I did.

edit to not double post:
Day 2 of crazy intense workout=SUCCESS. I got to the gym a bit late and I worked out literally until close. I love the place I work, because when I realized I was the last person there (half an hour to close) I asked the guy working if he got to close up early if I left then. He said yes, but told me that I was doing so awesome that I should stay and finish up. ♥ Normally I’d assume BS, but I’ve seen this guy try to lie and he’s pitiful. He even sat and talked to me while I finished up my last sets and my cool down cardio.

Question for you Hammer: Since picking up the intensity/impact of my workouts, I’ve noticed one of my ankles is significantly weaker than the other and has been giving out very quickly. I started wearing a brace which has helped me a TON and I’m working on strengthening the ankle in the meantime.

Is it cool for me to wear a brace occasionally? I asked on /r/fitness and got a pretty negative response, but I don’t trust them. They seem to be very set in their ways.

I don’t trust anything from 4chan either. Mind if I ask what kind of exercises you’re doing with the brace, and when exactly you’re wearing it?

edit

And just so you know, yes, that’s fine. I wear braces too, even when I’m doing tumbling like roundoff backhandsprings/etc.

Yeah, /r/fitness is on Reddit. It’s actually a decent forum and overall has been very helpful, mostly concerning my diet and workout planning. It’s a little irritating that a few people try to push nothing by ketogenic diets and Starting Strength over everything else.

Anyway, I wore it for while I was jogging, because it was feeling a bit unhappy with me after my leg workout on Friday. What I typically do for my leg workouts is jump around like a fool… no… seriously. Squats, lunges, ice skaters, step ups, box jumps, a bunch of other stuff I don’t have a name for, but involve high impact to my ankles.

I pant love pant HIITdies

60mins on the elliptical (20mins jogging, 20 mins intervals [1 min on, two off], 5mins walking, 10mins interval [same as before], 5mins cool down walking). 4.25 miles 495 calories. Shorter distance than I normally get with just jogging (usually get 5 miles), comparable calories. But I think those calories are BS. I was literally dripping sweat everywhere, I was dying by the end.

Also: It’s so nice that it’s warm enough that I can float in my pool once I get home. I floated for a good ten mins while I drank my protein shake. xD Helped loosen up my muscles a ton.

Rejoined MyFitnessPal (made a new account for a few reasons). I want to try to hit 2 pounds of weight loss a week, which is going to be a right bitch, but I can do it. I need to stop deluding myself about my calories.

D: Input my calories for today (I get 1300/day), including what I had planned for dinner. Was happy I was under my goal.

Added my exercise (40 mins of strength training, 20 mins of cardio) and was surprised that MFP gave me another 500 calories. O.o I guess it makes sense that you can eat more on days you workout, but it still feels… eh. I’m going to stay under my original goal unless I get super hungry later on. Which rarely happens to me. I never eat after dinner.

Been bad lately, but I hurt my foot while painting and could barely walk on it. D: Got back to the gym today. I’m adding a bit more variety to my workout and trying to actually get stronger. I’ve noticed I haven’t really made any strength gains in… forever.

So today:
13 mins stairmaster (100 cals; was a bitch, wanted to get to 20 mins, but was dying by 10)
4×12 seated tricep dips @ 80lbs
4×12 bicep curls @ 15lbs (each hand)
4×12 seated back rows @ 60lbs
4×12 overhead shoulder press @ 50lbs
4×12 standing chest press on cable machine @ 70lbs
20 mins elliptical HIIT (5;1*;2;1*;2;1*;2;1*;5) Forgot to check distance/cals boo
*going as fast/hard as I could go

I’m thinking I like HIIT. I feel like I got as much in in 20 mins as I would in twice the time just jogging. Going to push to 30 minutes next.

Spent a solid 12 hours over the past two days painting my bedroom. Big room, lots of trim and fancy shit, paneled walls, had to keep moving furniture. So sore and tired, it’s unbelievable. I was totally doing the Karate Kid type stuff, haha. I was so sweaty I changed my shirt a couple of times. Best workout I’ve had in months.

Also, a couple of days of strong sun and my pool has gotten to a nice comfortable temp. Need to buy a new swim tether (or some rubber hosing and a belt.. lol) so I can get in swim cardio days.
