Topic: Serious Discussion / Do all Earth class planets fail if religion is not overcome?

Starting arguments, not bothering to read the other posts, and then arguing at strawmens at an attempt to discredit us? Doing the standard pacaholic/vangaurde “I don’t have to cite sources” stuff, and when he does, cites the worst possible ones? Just makes crap up half the time? Have you noticed this?

1. I quoted the wrong post. I do read all posts.
2. I never argued a strawman.
3. I did cite a source.
4. I admit after rereading it picked a bad source.
5. What I said was wrong because I used a bad source.

That must be a typo or its a terribly formed sentence.

But even then it doesn’t cite a legitimate source.

It’s not a typo. I copied and pasted that from the source.

Well no, it doesn’t say that either. They say that “We don’t know what the chances are [that life exists on other planets], because we haven’t found any,”, and then later in the article they say that there are estimated to be a trillion planets in the galaxy. The points are unrelated.

I misinterpreted these two sentences.

The galaxy holds more than a trillion planets. "1 have hope [that life exists beyond Earth].

I think everyone is just overreacting. There has been like 2 deaths in the USA and there are currently only 140 people diagnosed with swine flu. (In the USA) The majority of deaths has been in mexico where health care is terrible compared to the United States. So everbody should just wash their hands and this will pass over soon enough.

The Spanish Flu came infected a couple people than disappeared over the summer, and exploded in the fall killing millions. That’s why WHO is worried they don’t want a repeat of that incident.

That doesn’t say anything about the chance of finding life outside Earth being one in a trillion.

Read it wrong sorry. They said that only one planet in a trillion had hope of life. I interpreted it has only one had life instead of one hoping for other life.

I found an interesting quote on this subject. Whether or not you agree with it isn’t my problem, however I could see it sparking some interesting discussion.

“Anyone who clings to the historically untrue — and thoroughly immoral — doctrine that “violence never solves anything” I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."

Very true. The only times pacifism works are if those practicing it are hurt or killed

source?

This is the one for there being a chance of life on another planet.

I can’t find the other article. I looked this up a long time ago.

CO2 is naturally present, so the trees would survive even with decreased carbon emissions. And besides, we’re cutting down significant areas of trees at an alarming rate anyway.

For every acre of trees a company cuts down they plant an acre of trees.

That’s only in place like the USA. In most developing countries where there are few or no regulations, deforestation is occuring at an alarming rate.

According to the max amount amount of estimated trees cut down in 2005, and the estimated amount of acres of trees. With the average amount of trees in an acre. We still have 1120 years left before we run out of trees.

Read.

I admit they made a mistake, but your basing that all techniques don’t work on one mistake. That’s why I said I want all the documents on how many times it worked not on how many times it didn’t work before I make my decision on torture.

There’s already been a lot of discussion on that specific issue in this thread, I was merely addressing the fact that your assumption that the torture victims were actually caught in the act was false.

Your assuming that all detainees in Guantanamo were tortured.
