Indeed. A world without consumerism is quite abstract to our modern world.

I could imagine stuff like fireworks for festivals would slowly phase out until we begin to celebrate that festival without fireworks or the like. While culture may not die out, it would change so that it would be geared to be cheap. Cultures would also be less tacky and avoid giant balloons or the like, and existing things may just be redecorated.

Instead of game consoles aiming to have the highest specs and passing it onto consumers every four or five years, they’d make consoles that would have a longer lifespan to encourage people to see it as a longterm investment an hardware specs would be lowered. Backwards compatibility would be a default feature in all gaming consoles to ensure that consumers won’t feel like they wasted money as each game is now more precious. There would also be less gaming accessories as those would cost money too.

Indeed. I do think benefits in healthier diets (it’ll probably save us a lot of money in the long run), better research (since it benefits everyone now), and greener structures and technology are beneficial long term effects of such a change. It’ll take while to wean people off of meats, discover new strains, and not everyone would be willing to use solar panels or hydroelectricity. Plus with solar panels and other renewable resources, it’ll take a while to find ways to make them more efficient.

Of course, I also do think that in the long run, the entertainment industry (music, art, etc.) would suffer as a result since people wouldn’t buy as much of their products, and that could slow down the development of culture.

The immediate outcome is probably widespread protest in developed countries and rejoicing in third world countries.

@FlyingCat: This is irrelevant as the amount distributed to each person is in accordance to their needs. There is no incentive to elevate one’s needs when the resources grow proportionately.

Yes, everyone has to work for the resources they receive.

Okay, I see. I thought by everyone having the same amount of resources meant that everyone was given ‘x’ regardless of how much they could consume.

I’m just going to use your figures as it’s your scenario. If it’s $13,000 per individual, I’d say the world would be changed so that everyone is frugal with resources. People won’t toss out half eaten food, they won’t need to update to the next tech model every time something new comes out etc.

Since everyone is going to be dependent on so little money, there would be a greater emphasis on developing more efficient strain of crop, less animals would be eaten (since it takes a ridiculous amount of grains and other foodstuff to raise even one cow) and we’d focus more on eating more plants and fruits which may actually benefit our health. Plus obesity, diabetes, CAD will be less of a problem since overeating is going to be looked down upon when resource is going to be fairly scarce. People will also likely try to grow their own food to increase the resource they are allocated.

Structures may begin to be designed with the idea of going green. For example houses with glass roofs to let sunlight in to A) save electricity in the day as well as B) help grow any potted vegetables they keep indoors. People may invest in solar panels as it’s a one time fee for free electricity.

Of course first world countries may become more focused on survival, and less on culture. Less aesthetic architectural marvels would be created as that money would go to improving our quality of life. Gaming industries might die down as a gaming is a relatively expensive hobby to maintain.

To get clarification on this, when you say that resources are distributed evenly, do you mean that every region, family, or individual gets a certain amount of resources, and are these people guaranteed the same resources regardless of how much or how hard they work (i.e. is a surgeon paid as much as a clerk, and is someone who works for six hours paid as much as the guy who works for twelve?)?

I do think how society will act will be based on how to maximize the individual gains. Do people try to cheat the system or will they cooperate will probably change based on what scenario we’re using. If it’s per individual, families may expand to try to get a larger share of the pie, however if x resources is allocated to each society/family then it would encourage people to shrink their families to maximize what each person in their family/society gets.

I also do think that our answers shouldn’t be based completely off our current world. Our birthrates in first world countries are lower so each child can get more resource focused on them, however in this scenario world, I don’t believe a family can save as they must return any excess resource they have into the community pool. Depending on how the resource is split however, it would lead to incentives to increase or decrease the family size.

It might not be strong, but with its current range and precision, it may not be able to whack a hole in the wall, but it can land ‘critical hits.’ Especially since you seem to focus on reducing enemy visibility, it can specialize in Guerrilla warfare.

Yes, and that was ostensibly their own team mate. Yeah, way to help that cause, you two – by being teamkilling f*cktards and nearly getting yourselves exploded, no less. Incidentally, why is reaper controlling both Kania and Babatunde now? Wasn’t one of them somebody else’s character?

I think Jimbo wrote X like Babatunde does this, and then Reaper just explains what Babatunde does from Kanias perspective.

Edit: Nevermind, yeah what Reaper765 wrote.

adjusts bowtie listen here you little shit allow me to explain you a thing

The fact that the people are headed towards that one military base at all is a testament to their working toward Applebottom’s cause, that cause presumably being “get to a military base and deal with their secret project that they’re working on”. Kania and Babatunde trying to kill members of the group is actively going against this cause, for reasons that I assume are obvious, and I’m not convinced that they’ve done anything to help said cause beyond what everyone else has also done. So, y’know. No irony is present at all.

To be completely fair, they’ve killed the bomb guy which is more German enemies than the rest of us combined since we’ve failed to kill glass and reset man.

Noir

Grrrr… Even if the hits didn’t do any external damage, those punches REALLY hurt. Plus that human was too fast to hit. For now it’ll be better to run away. [Eye of the Tiger] let loose one last roar before running away towards a storm drain. Noir had navigated the city sewers before in her early days as a stray, and she planned to do again.

Noir ran up the lions head, and the giant lion disappeared as Noir lept off its head making a leap towards the storm drain. She then crawled through the hole, and into the sewer as she recovered. Losing her home in the park, losing her cardboard box, and losing a fight didn’t do anything to improve her mood.

‘squeek, squeek’

Sewer rats. Well, at least she had food down here as she recuperates.

(In the event you ever need to fight me, consider me the dumbest enemy possible with a learning level of E. Plus since Nemea has a really strong hide, and 「Billie Jean」 isn’t particularly massive, [Eye of the Tiger] wouldn’t even try to dodge.)

Noir

*Grrrrr…

That kick was stronger than Noir expected. Maybe she should attack head on again even though it didn’t work the first time. [Eye of the Tiger] let loose a roar, and charged at 「Billie Jean」 head on attempting to tackle her and knock her down again.

Sorry, I meant that growing and shooting arms/vectors could be justified in that you’re a breakdancer since apparently awful people have awful looking stands and good people have good stands, and a blob of arms may make you a very disturbed person if there wasn’t a reason for it (art of dance).

Well since Crystals character is very passionate about breakdancing, and breakdancing is very fluid and constantly moving, I’d assume it could make sense Matt would also have a constantly shifting stand.

Noir

The human is screaming her, clearly not afraid of her stand, and she’s not backing down either and the supernatural one is assuming a fighting pose. [Eye of the Tiger] crouches down, and the leaps toward 「Billie Jean」, ready pounce and maul her.

We’re so fucked..

The deer can fly since it was able to board the roof of a train. You’re in a forest, and you can use fire magic. Why not just burn the entire forest down to try to get them to retreat while you fly out? You may also be in home territory since you can grow plants to block the enemies routes.

Lauren Idella might be able to block bullets with her wind and umbrella.

Topic: General Gaming / Valthirian Arc: Suggestion for The New Game

My memories about the game are blurry since it’s been a while since I’ve played, and I can’t remember if these ideas are already in the game, but I don’t think they are.

I can think of a scholar or strategist class that can’t fight, but instead provide a stat boost to other allies in the party and the stat boost they provide increases for every level they gain. They can also increase the rewards of a quest to reduce some of the grinding, however it’s a risk-reward deal as since they can’t fight, the more of them you bring to a quest, the harder the quest becomes since there are less people fighting.

Maybe a summoner/tamer class that begins with a weak familiar, and the familiar grows as the character advances their class, and you can let them advance into two different classes, one with melee, and one with ranged familiar.

I’m not sure how hard this would be to program, but what if there was an event where the academy is attacked by something super strong or just a lot of enemies, and you can use a massive party with all your students to fight it off to show you how strong your school is now.

Roughly the same amount of noise as a rowing boat with a leaking birthday balloon in the back.

Babatunde a power stealthy enough to the point where even Kania has trouble seeing her mount with her power so I think they should be able to sneak up on you guys since I’d assume Kat couldn’t sense them, but the wall that stops the deer car would give you guys a clue that you’re being ambushed.

Count Dorkula

The man appeared to be stunned at the situation, but hesitating at this point would be foolish. Dorkula quickly gave the man two whacks on the head with his paintbrush cudgel knocking him out stone cold. Just to be safe though, Dorkula gave the man another good whack.

Dorkula then stuffed a hunting rifle into his pouch and proceeded to run out of the store shouting “Help! The manager slipped and hit his head on the counter and is now unconscious! Help! Anyone!”
