Screamo Music!!
Here are my thoughts on this “discussion”:
1. 90% of the bands mentioned here fall into the metalcore, alternative, melo-death, or hard rock genres.I’m not being a genre-whore: “screamo” has become a vague umbrella-term that covers any music that features any vocals that scream, growl, squeal, or are somewhat harsh. Since real screamo is rarely listened to from here on when i mention “screamo” it is referring to the bands that are typically called screamo, that means post-hardcore, metalcore, emo, electronic post-hardcore (Attack Attack!, Asking Alexandria) and the like that can be found on Warped Tour.
2. I can understand people saying that all screamo bands sound the same: there are plenty of bands that strive for the same sound, and unfortunately there aren’t too many bands doing anything groundbreaking or revolutionary. However, there are some that do stand out and should not be labled boring just because they come from a music scene crowded with an army of Hot Topic clones.
3. A third common attack at screamo is that it doesn’t take talent, it may not have been said yet, but it surely will. First off, the ability to play any instrument is a talent; therefore, the argument is dissmissed. However, those who use this argument are implying that screamo is simple music. To some degree, I agree with this; screamo is very visceral in that some of the emotions derived through screamo are the most basic: anger, fear, sadness, pain. However, I will also argue that just because a band can play very technical music doesn’t mean that the music is appealing and that there is more to a good song than spider web solos and technical riffs. Which brings me to my final point:
4. The reason I personally listen to screamo is because of the angst and emotion that i can tune into when I hear a good screamo song -seeing as I am a teenager i am filled with angst and screamo allows me to vent it. I do this with most genres of music, metal for when i’m angry or have adrenaline pumping through me, classic g-funk when I’m just chilling, etc. Also, I love a good breakdown and screaming simply because I like it; there is really no explination for it, i just do.
I’m sure I’ve pissed most of you off, so let me hear your thoughts so we can have an actual discussion before this turns into a flame war like it inevitably will.

Agreed, that song is really catchy; I also love “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears, “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada, “1000 Miles” by Vanessa Carlton, and “All You Wanted” by Michelle Branch.

Post-Hardcore, Metalcore and Hardcore - An Old Discussion
I wouldn’t call them “unseen”-they are plenty popular- but where I’m from the only radio play any of these bands get is from midnight to 2 am during the week on one station. The only thing is that the time is also used to play death metal and other forms of extreme metal, so there might be one metalcore song a night.
So far i like all the bands mentioned except I Set My Friends on Fire, their vocals are painful to listen to, and I am kind of tired of As I Lay Dying because they are on all of my pandora stations. Parkway Drive is probably one of my favorite bands and i’m excited to hear that they are working on a new album.
Lately I’ve been listening to a lot more lesser known bands, here are some that i have found:
Harp & Lyre-“Grizzly Adams Did Have a Beard”
The Casino Brawl-“Reenact”
Never See Tomorrow-“1000 Miles” yes it is a cover of Vanessa Carlton and it is amazing
Look Alive (they formed from members of Catherine and MyChildren MyBride, both of which should be listened to)
Motionless in White-“When Love Met Destruction” & “Santa’s Pissed” (one of the best christmas songs ever)

A fairly large label is offering to give away well-known, licensed, copyrighted music to amateur developers, for free. And you guys still bitch about it.

iPod vs Zune
Ipod, i bought a Zune and it got really screwed up after an update. It would only play one song, only show the album art of a completely random song, and all the letters in the song and album titles and the artist names, were changed to greek and other random symbols. I haven’t listened to my zune since.
