I have had many ideas, and finally decided to share on again that might seem unconventional, but is of course quite brilliant.
My problem is that when leveling up you get a bloodlust refill, which is quite nice in theory. But often I will level up by accident – I might have forgotten that I was about to level up, for example when returning to the game during work. Recently I used a refill, and leveled up shortly after, so my refill was wasted. In these cases, which in my case are the common case, the blood lust refill feels like a punishment, because it is a wasted opportunity!
So its actually a bad idea to simply refill the bloodlust, as it will in many cases lead to a negative experience (due to the missed chance for a positive experience). Well as to what a good solution might be I am not perfectly sure, but I options might be to grant a free refill potion (which will also raise awareness to this in game item, potentially increasing spending of rubies on it and thereby increasing the real value of diamonds in the long run), or to refill when the points are distributed (I know the technical issue here, but maybe you could simply keep a link to the message that popped up, consumed when distribute is clicked, and not allow spending of points unless profile accessed via link from message). There might be other options, I just think it would increase the positive experience with the game if the players had control over this important reward.

Thanks, its awesome that you are making this guide. Concerning the shadow setup what about amulet of mai, curse of the bat, in general the Blacken effect? I focused on Blacken and then Chanel/Shadowcrush for damage and it seemed to work quite well in PvE/PvB until recently (lvl 77 now).

Thank you for your reply, Vautrin.

Daily rewards do not solve the problem. The problem is that it is not fun to lose money. Getting daily rewards does not change that I feel punished when hiring a Merc for only playing one mission.

The daily reward idea is like when you have two people investing in shares, one of them gets a daily play-money from somewhere and the other not. Why would you think that either of them would enjoy making stupid investments and either of them would have fun losing money? Its like saying “rich people like getting punished” – which sounds about as random to me as the idea to introduce daily rewards to solve the problem of the mechanic itself being a punishment.

Thanks! I will go for the tyrant axe then, because the others are out of reach for me for quite a while…

What is the best physical weapon, and, in case you there is an opinion on that, the third best?

Currently thinking about buying it for PvE and want to know the alternatives.

If I want to just play for 20 minutes today (or yesterday), maybe replay a low level mission, I face the following problem: I have to pay more to make a new contract with my mercs than I will earn during the 24 hours. Its not a playful mechanic, its a anti-play mechanic. Even in the original it was not 24 real hours, but 24 game hours if I remember correctly…

the market is a great addition, but does not necessarily do the best service to the economy. Based on the credit values items had in chat/forum before the market it seems the market is full of troll prices, meaning that buyers do not find what they want due to the huge list of crazy prices and sellers put their stuff up for unrealistic prices – and do not sell. Some easy fixes might include allowing buyers to ask for products by posting, on a different market page, how much credits they would pay for a product. Furthermore ordering items according to the time they were put up instead of alphabetical order would make sense (you already can search for specific items), and it might make sense to have an option to see all offers (a list of bait, WoC, mats, etc, all in chronological order).

I like Dionsama’s suggestions. Concerning suggestion 4 the grimoire could have an additional button next to creatures/bosses for merchants. That might potentially be easy to implement, as it could be the same data, just with different layout maybe and it might be nice to know which items you have crafted already.

bug part 2: Actually I saw blood lust change not only when hunting, but also when pressing other links. I was thinking that maybe my local counter gets out of sync with the server? But when I observe it is seems to be an issue connected to the regen setup – For example even if I have the 1:30 setup it might switch to like a 2 minute counter after deleting 3 BL. It is as if the server did not really receive that I switched to my BL regen setup before and just changed the local counter? So when I refresh by clicking a link I get the BL as if I would have had my PvE setup equipped? As mentioned, it only happens once in a while, so I am not really sure about the precise pattern.

I might also have had a similar problem when playing without a regen setup and never switching setups (sometimes my CoB page is open in the browser for hours without me checking it or clicking anything). Sometimes when I clicked something the counter would make a sudden jump. But it appears as if these jumps would happen more often with the regen setup.

EDIT: Well just RIGHT after writing this I clicked, on the hunt screen, load setup 2 (PvE) – and BL jumped up 3 points whilst the counter was showing that 20 secs were (left before and after the click).

Idea to solve the issue that players want to have a clean inventory and you do not want to increase the blood ruby amount from d/e: Make a sacrifice altar, maybe similar to the trading screen but you trade with the gods or demons or whatever, or you just put in stuff and once in a while the altar drops a reward. There players can sacrifice specific items like the blood shift scrolls. You can drop small bonuses like a free 24 hour buff, a handful of rubies (but you might have to disenchant many scrolls to get some), or one or two unique and very rare items that motivate people to use the altar. Personally, I would just like to get rid of the blood shift scrolls because I don’t like how they clutter my scroll inventory, but the altar could be a cool addition to the game.

There is a bug where you lose bloodlust. I think it happens when changing from my BL regen setup to my PvE setup when my counter hits 0:00 till the next refill. Then when I click hunt 3 BL disappear, I do not have enough BL to hunt anymore, and the timer that should be 1:45 according to the my local counter is now 2:15 (I think?). It only happened twice so I am not perfectly sure I report it correctly.

maybe sorting powers according to how many scrolls you have read would be a nice option. For me that would be a bit more meaningful compared to ordering by name per level.

Thanks for all the recent changes! They are really great and improve the game. Especially like the tabs in the armory and for items.

However, there is one thing i do not like: When I look at the info text for items it used to show the procs one per line. Now it shows them in a table with two or three columns. Personally I find that confusing and really prefered the list/bulletpoint like ordering of one proc per line. If you need it to fit stuff on one screen for high level items, maybe you could make it that first you show 5 procs in 5 lines, if there are 6-10 procs you start a new columns, and so on, something like this? One of the problems with the columns is that the text does not fit in. So it reads Hail of bull… or Use Empowr… (new line) 2.

Also, in addition to the 1,2,… buttons for browsing powers a next and previous button would be nice so you can rest your mouse pointer at the same location when clicking.

EDIT (sorry for always editing my posts…): I would think the battle master should by default show the buying page, not the crafting page. At level 44 there is only the coffin available for crafting and I crafted that a long time ago, so most of the time I want to go to the buy section now. (+ it might be good to show credits, VP etc on the crafting page as well)

A different suggestion, because you mentioned that you might work on the GUI.

I play PvP by looking at the two health bars. Often I attack twice, see how the healthbar changes, decide to speed attack or consider one of the options. There are two problems with this:
1. The health bars are of different length and start at a different point on the x-axis
2. The health bars do not well reflect the actual difference of blood you lost. For example if my opponent has 900 blood and I have 600, the health bars are a really useless if not confusing indicator of what matters for the outcome of the fight.

I really like the additional deathblow reward! It a totally awesome idea! If you make a new skill that is mostly useful for PvP and has scrolls that only drop for deathblow victories that could be really exciting. Right now if you PvP a lot you have all the loot and only do it for VP, Rubies and the tradeable stuff (which is not worth so much). Such a scroll would however reintroduce the excitement of looking for something that you want (which is the thing that makes the other modes interesting) + the challenge. + it might not hurt balance if its useful for PvP. In general it would be exciting to introduce some alternative to the usual chloromacy+diablerie setup.

EDIT: Or, even cooler, a new and hard to get WoC. Or both :).

More attacks or other ways to make PvP more interesting during a day sounds like a great idea. Maybe it would also be an option to reduce the loot and VP penalty for attacking lower level players, right now it feels as if loot chance is 0 and attacking lower players is only for VP or retaliation. This would efficiently increase the level range for the mid-range players from maybe lvl 40-65 who have some players around, but can feel how PvP dries up. It might also make PvP more viable for Players who do mostly PvE, PvB

PvP in general might be more interesting if it remains interesting to attack lower players. Right now there is no incentive to engage lower level players that attacked and defeated you. It might also be interesting to promise small rewards for players who retaliate (e.g. a normal loot rate despite level difference), so that more actual PvP interactions take place. Then I might actually check who attacked me :). Now its pointless (not enough targets anyway, lower levels).

Edit: To clarify what I see as problem: Because there is nothing to do at higher levels PvP Players actively try not to level up – so they have to avoid a lot of content like quests, PvB, PvE in current area, etc. One strategy is to buy LGLG at 51 and farm low level areas with little XP, hoping that other player level up faster and get into level range. But even that is pointless: I went offline 5 days and did not feel like I got more targets.

Topic: Berserk: The Cataclysm / Suggestion: Random card a day

I really like the changes of the last update, and think the game has taken a good direction. As a player who has lost all his lands I have a suggestion that might motivate players to return to the game if they do not really like the land mechanic.

When I had my islands the rewarding thing that made me come back to the game was that I would get around 10.000 imperials a day, so every day I could get a standard booster or two (doing some other stuff). I think it is really nice to open a booster pack. Anyway, my suggestion would be to offer a daily card from the standard set, maybe even twice a day. Every 12 hours one card from the standard deck (including promos – same distribution as in booster packs) – It makes you return to the game, because if you wait like 14 hours, you miss 2 hours, if you do not log in a full day you miss 2 possibilities to get a card. And every time you go back to the game a little surprise gets you hooked to the game (and then you can do all the other stuff to get more cards). I currently have more than 1600 cards, and others have way more, so giving players a bit more than 700 standard cards a year should not be a big deal.

Also, I would make this a button, not a pop up, so you have to press it, it just feels nicer if you press something to get something. It sounds a bit like I am a monkey, but hey, to some extent I probably am ;).

Topic: Berserk: The Cataclysm / Babarians, Island

As has been said before, in different words:

I think you should at some point take a closer look into the land mechanic, especially into the babarian mechanic. You focus on punishing players for not login in every 15 hours. Now its the second time I had to be offline for a day or two, and when I come back my island is full of babarians (thats even worse than the missing islands). Other games reward me if I come back after some time of absence, they try to get me hooked to the game again. Berserk works the opposite way. I see all these babarians which are really boring to fight again after a 1000 and more fights, the effort it would take to build the land again… do I want to rebuild a second time? Not really.

Just imagine you come to work after your holiday and a huge stack of papers has grown on your desk whilst you have been away: Is that a good experience? Are you happy to come back to work? I think you would be happier to come back to work if your boss surprises you with a promotion instead, just saying…
