The thing is that your Hero Souls also gives you damages bonus.
So by using them sometimes you lose damages, sometimes you win damages.

To know exactly what you are doing you need to understand the calculations.
Or use a script someone else made (I don’t have the last up-to-date version but http://repl.it/0B1/7 )

Also make sure to save often.

Topic: Sandbox Hero / Ideas Here!

Random idea : Reprogram and rethink a bunch of stuff to make it run smoother.
It takes 1 minute to run 30 seconds of the game for a guenine level with Firefox on a core2duo. Or anyway, don’t even take the browser in account. It is clearly slower than it could and should be.

Maybe for future games? Only some of the most recent Jmbt’s games are super-laggy, maybe he got a new super computer that runs things very smooth. D:

Not a sugg, because not going to happen. (that’s the meaning of an “idea” thread right?)

Don’t fear the completion rate : this map is mainly for learning, maybe you won’t be able to complete it the first time, but with training it will be more than usefull in many situations! ;)

If layered filters means research, only the map genre could show up in the research since it’s what the current maps correspond the most/makes the most sense. (goal and map options being modifiers for gameplay only)
Well I’m a slowpoke and current system works anyway. :p

^or another solution is making “Pure” mode a category in itself, rather than a modifier. Then it would have one single icon like the others do.
(Since “pure” only means as a challenge, having a “pure + artwork” map doesn’t make much sense…)



There was another idea that I liked a lot, separating categories in two things :

  • Map genre
    [Adventure, Story, Artwork, Landscape, Quizz, Puzzle, Brawl, Rollercoaster, Tutorial, Racing]
  • Map goal – with an exp modifier and, or a leaderboard
    [Survival (less deaths), Exploration/Completion (all NPC/all coins), Time trial (fastest), Battle (kill all ennemies), Experimental (no given goal), Challenge (simple completion, default)]
  • Plus map modifiers that are just options in the editor and that can combine
    [Yolo, Pure, Gravity, Darkness, etc.]

An advantage of making Yolo a modifier is that you have to test your map in Yolo to complete it (and thus avoiding the making of impossible maps).
Edit : only genre would show up in research,
the rest being modifiers visible (or not) on the map’s info page but not in banner

That’s if it was planned on a more comprehensive making of categories and its consequences.

Topic: Sandbox Hero / Feature Requests (not multiplayer)

Suggestion about YOLO mode : currently only the duration of the last run is accounted.
This makes some YOLO maps very short when in reality lot of tries have been necessary.

Could the total duration reflect this?
(Had a map with 20 seconds of average (no-one is gonna play a map of 7 coins)
when in “Challenge” it gets a time of 2 minutes…
Lagging makes your clock go slower, but really, something should be done about global time.)

Speaking of lags, it does feel like it’s worse lately. Why does setting the graphics quality on “low” doesn’t seems to change most of the graphics on screen?

Hello! I made an attemp at making a tutorial about “wall grip”
It’s called Wallgrip Tutorial, but it got pretty bad completion rate so far so I would like a review about what’s wrong and how I could update it to make it easier to understand.
Maybe it lasts too long or the middle climb is too high?

All of the categories now except Survival (hint?). Other maps got pushed out for 1 to 3 pages.
(in the categories with low pages count like Puzzle, that mean you can’t access the second page since it’s not complete)

It’s both amusing and irritating at the same time to see new player that don’t understand how to play the game because all the levels are the same empty room that completes itself.

• When finishing a level in editor test mode and hitting “retry”, the “done testing” button dissapear and you have to finish the level again to return to the editor
Bouncer hiding doesn’t work as expected. 1)Drawing order depends on something else (got told generation order when walking)
2)Not all yellow bouncers are correctly hidden: UP and LEFT are, but RIGHT and DOWN cannot be hidden because of positioning.
Editing a map (republish) still makes it dissappear from Latest and Hot list. It should do the opposite. (that or I don’t understand something)

I think “exploration” (or whatever name) maps are best defined by a world that takes longer to explore than to actually complete.
To the player the choice to explore further or stay on the tracks or rush it.

+ 1 to those map management ideas:
-Saving map externally (backup/editing/sharing for multi-work)
-Delete maps (I saw a guy stuck with 30+ identical maps he accidentally created trough a bug)
-Sort by difficulty ~looking for challenging maps (recommendedLevel/completionRate+mapRating). Other classifications (long arty~story map, high-level maps, etc.).
-Featured maps, or monthly, yearly clasment (because rating isn’t making the top levels easy to renew, since people tend to play and rate high maps that already have been agreed)
-Accessing to more maps pages than 4

Other ideas:
-A selection tool in the editor to do simple Copy-paste-move for tiles (like a pixel-art editor if you have one reusable)
-Something about required jump level : a warning or a control. Because waiting for the “recommended level” to rise is too slow (completion rate and plays numbers is taking a hit for him)
(I like the idea of a “noob friendly” Label if you tested your map with base equipments)
-Minimap
If it’s possible (or actually does anything), being able to toggle between two sizes of minimap, the smaller one requiring smaller area of loading tiles?
Give all the colored blocks a color on the minimap or none, currently only some of the grounds have a color
-When is punctualtion like [? : , " – +] coming for messages?

-Republished levels
“Republished” levels don’t seems to show up in hotlist or latest. Is it on purpose?
Since a “republished” map loses all its plays and rate weight (logical), without the (re)publication visibility it will die instantly.
Or at least make it so that you can “save” again the edited map. Currently it’s more benefical to edit the creation map and publish a NEW version than editing and republishing the original (for visibility again), thus creating duplicates… :/

Colored blocks don’t have colors on the minimap, only some grounds have.

Can’s use characters like : , – + in messages.
Also ? is displayed when making the message but dissapears when you launch a test.

Dashing in editor mode (no testing) damages the ennemies and can kill the weak ones.
Edit : attacking damages the ennemies for me aswell. (still in editor mode)

After retrying a map by hitting ‘retry’ at the end makes so that the rating screen doesn’t show up afterwards.

Buttons… To do stuff… And maybe give the mobs an use with pressure plates.
Breakables to give the sword some swing.
Timed flamethrowers (except the flame is like a lazer : small bbox, single flame sprite and NOT spammy laggy flux)

Also, most of the static blocks are 32*32 right? Would the game run faster if those were pixels things rather than vector things? :o

Medium difficulty, some HP needed, minimap is helpfull and there are shortcuts for the pros! (Time trial)

Using chrome on Windows 7,
a PC that has some years (5?)
It’s probably 59

Weird animation :
Attacking while on a ladder
Attacking while dead
Level end, face going blank during jump animation of end level (must get jump animation)

Typos :
Map editor default categories:
UNCATAGORIZED → Uncategorized

Map rating :
You can rate your own map. I rated mine twice even. This is the difference between starting at 65 and starting at 71~88.

Editor :
Clicking box : Left slow (probably down too) booster, down fast and left fast boosters in tiles don’t have a good clicking area at all.
(probably both right boosters have also a too big area)
Detail : Characters are mirrorred differently when you select them than in-game (position change)
Sometimes creating a new “go” door doesn’t change your respawn area, sometimes it does. Most of the time it doesn’t, except when you launch a test.

Focus :
Pressing M in any situation (naming, writing text) mutes/unmutes the sound
Clicking on “replay” after having finished a map makes the playing area lose focus (have to click again)

Lag :
When lot of blocks are around (not visible on screen but near enough to be on the minimap is already enough),
or lot of monsters, everything is going slower and jumps seems less effective (or maybe it’s horizontal accelleration that lacks, cannot jump on some blocks)
Moving left and right doesn’t work the same way, but it’s a lot more visible when lagging (climbing)
Can’t most of the tiles be turned into pixels ? 32*32 is small enough and zoom is disabled so there’s no need for vector-art…
