Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Totemica: Duelist] Some advice..

I don’t have specific suggestion or wishlist, but if you develop this game further, I hope you take note the following:

1.) It need to be seen as fair between paying and non-paying customers, it doesn’t have to be really fair, but if the gap are too obvious, you will be seen as unfair and greedy. Another way is to make payment a fringe benefit, not necessity. 100% rare when purchasing with cash and higher chance of rare for VIP is fine, exclusive content for paying players is NOT.

2.) Remember the pyramid form. Without free & casual players nurtured and given chance to perform well, the hardworking players will be the threshold to enjoy the game (therefore free & casual will leave eventually). If players can’t enjoy the game competitively after spending much time, the paying players will be the threshold (hardworking players will leave eventually). This can be done by giving daily rewards or random chance of something for all players regardless of VIP or non-VIP. This way, VIP and paying player will be faster growing, while free player and hard worker will still have access to ALL contents you develop in exchange of their loyalty.

3.) If you’re working hard with a small team, find some innovation to keep the game fast-paced and ever-growing. You can’t slow the players down by giving small rewards for everything. An easy way to deal with this issue is difficulty system or different kind of booster packs (like in Clash of the Dragons).

The problem with small team is it often lack of brainstorming. I found that it is truly simple things that are missing. The artwork are beautiful and consistent while the gameplay is original, that is your competitive advantage against other games.

I hope this game and your team will do well in the future.

In CotD terms, the third player got banished, you got tormented and the other guy was targeted by Mirror Rorrim. Blame the other person, you just drafted against a real mage.

Duel somehow manages to be an even bigger waste. Winning gets you a 5000 gold profit (or rather 1k, assuming gold pack sales aren’t gone for good) and 40 xp. Losing gets you -4000 gold, and 30 xp. Assuming a 50/50 win loss, that’s either 500 or -1500 average profit and 35 xp. 25 energy spent on human ambushes gives 1250 profit and 50 xp, plus some loleyeballs. 25 energy spent on questing gets you 40xp (more on hard/NM), 600 gold (again, more on hard/NM), chances at crafting items/equipment, and gets you closer to unlocking Brawls and higher difficulties. If you have higher than 50% win ratio, that probably means you have enough Legendaries you don’t even need gold packs anymore. If you have less than 50%, you’re wasting even more money that should be going toward getting gold packs the normal way.

In short, there’s no reason at all for Duels to exist, except to give the devs an extra couple Dragon Coins a day from people that suck at math. If you want to test your deck, do original PVP. If you want to lose money, go buy lottery tickets in real life.

I’m not touching Colloseum either until they add some form of deck restriction (or increase prizes so that losing gives more loot than drafts, which are actually balanced), but since it has a unique reward there’s at least a smidge of a reason for some people to actually do it.

This is some analytical arguments, I second this any day.
