Topic: Off-topic / What is your favorite type of music and artist?

I enjoy lots of genres including rap, country, pop, j-pop, k-pop (korean), metal, techno, trance, alternative rock, indie and classical. I like classic rock, instrumental music and movie themes too. Think Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmmer, Alexander Desplat, Howard Shore, Trent Reznor (he writes music for films now) and whoever does the music for Age of Empires. I love jumpstyle and psytrance. I heard this song called Tarantula in the Mirror by Alien Ultra but I can’t find it any more on youtube. Best K-pop band I can think of is 4minute. J-pop, Utada Hikaru and Ayumi Hamasaki. No vocaloid crap, can’t stand it. Favourite pop artists are Alexandra Stan and Rihanna. Alternative rock, R.E.M and Little Birdy. Classic rock artists: Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Cream, Santana, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix

Rick-rolling: it’s retarded
Chuck Norris jokes: my uncle makes better jokes about him when he’s drunk
Trollface: kids are always spamming that stupid face in chat
Fuuuu Rage: need I say more?
Me gusta: seen better artwork in the toilet after I’m finished on there
Justin Beaver: really unimaginative
Rage Comics: boring and not funny
Rebecca Black: People were making accounts with variations of Rebecca Black’s name and appearing on Fridays to ask us what day it is
Jessi Slaughter: just really sad, I felt sorry for her.
Bronies: Being a 25 year old man who likes MLP is not “zany” or even awesome. It’s just pathetic.

Eminem’s music is considered offensive to some people because he swears a lot and sings about wanting to kill his ex wife and how he hates his mum

Because a vocal minority represent every gay person in the world who come out as gay or not. It’s not like there are gay people who would prefer not to be so open about their sexual preference because it’s not anybody’s business, right? You probably think there’s no more to homosexual men than being full of semen. What about hetero people who are “not content to just be quietly heterosexual”? The guy who has to put his hand up his girlfriend’s skirt at the movies then pick on the usher to told him the theatre is not the place to give handjobs? The slutty girl who calls any woman who doesn’t act like her a lesbian? The slutty girl who will hit on a woman’s boyfriend even if they make it clear they’re together? The guy who wears those nasty t-shirts with battered women on them?

Gays here are not representing every gay in the world. That is just a bit of over exaggeration. I don’t care what gays have in them and I don’t like hetero’s grandstanding anymore than I do gays. Some things should be kept in the bedroom, period. Now let me ask you how many guys have you seen put their hand up the girlfriends skirt in public? I doubt if you ever have. and I have never seen hand jobs in a normal theater. this is what irritates me about this subject. You people go way overboard in trying to make excuses for gay exhibition. Stop being so emotional.

I have actually seen a guy put his hand up a girl’s skirt in public. Nobody bats an eyelid, but if they see two guys holding hands it’s like OMG THINK OF DA CHILDREN

lol your Bible also says that Moses had two or three wives, amirite? So much for one man and one woman.

Topic: Serious Discussion / How would the gaming community react to a gay main character?

I’ve replied to this topic before but would like to say something else. If you look at the reboot of Rawhide Kid (he was a cowboy in a comic book), they made him into a walking stereotype, which is really lame. What’s to say some developer who is trying to come off as “open-minded” isn’t going to do that to a gay male character? I understand that in a videogame, it’s all about fantasy, so why not imagine a tough gay male character and not a limp-wristed silly-billy? As for female characters, if there was a lesbian character, does she have to be butch or lipstick lesbian? In a lot of games and movies, the female can kick ass but ultimately it’s a guy who ends up saving the day. We need more female characters who are like Lara Croft and less characters with tits bigger than their head. Let’s have a gay male character who can put a bullet between a dude’s eyes but doesn’t turn around and give douchey fashion advice to everyone else and a lesbian character who doesn’t hate men for existing and reject the notion of being feminine. Equality won’t really happen until women stop being portrayed as either something from Sex and the City, Princess Zelda who always needs rescuing or the anorexic with big tits and there are male characters who need to be rescued by female characters, who can be gay but not effeminate or straight but not obsessed with pussy and violence. While this may seem like I’m talking about media other than games, it still applies.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why do people think WW2 was such a bad thing?

That’s an interesting question. I do agree with some that a lot of the technology we have now may not have been invented if there had been no world war 2. Fewer lives were lost in WW2 because the survivors and everyone else remembered the horror of WW1. Fewer wanted to fight. In WW1, at least on Australia, they’d convince young teenage boys to join up, making the idea of joining the army sound like a grand adventure. For a lot of those who had signed up to fight, they weren’t very educated and had never seen life outside the farm.

I’m not set out to argue with you, also you’re being a complete hypocrite; “In future please read the posts properly before you jump down my throat.”, maybe you should read my post properly before you jump down my throat. Jerk.

You rambled on for a big paragraph about why a person shouldn’t use two programs I suggested as starting points.

If you’re interested in digital art, download ChaosPro and Apophysis and read the tutorials. You can create some really cool stuff with those programs

Horrible advice, yeah ChaosPro and Apophysis are considered digital art. But it’s not really a path most people choose or stick with. Yeah you can make some cool fractals and stuff, but the art you see that is marketed frequently is mainly done in software like Corel painter, Illustrator, Photoshop, Maya 3D, etc. at least that’s what I have seen. While you don’t really see anything in a tv commercial or on a billboard that was clearly done in Apophysis or ChaosPro you will see art that is done in the software I listed above. Now I know art isn’t all about the money and stuff, but if you like it as much as I do you’ll try and find a way to keep your head above water and enjoy it too.

I used to want to make being a digital artist a career, and I’m on the right path, however I am just going to continue with it being a hobby because I have higher priorities to focus on. Most of you younger users are just beginning, and coming from someone who has been doing this a fair amount of time, I’d have to say that you should really try to find a software you enjoy, while having it at the same time make a marketable product. It’s basically having ones cake and eating it too. Granted fractal making programs can make some eye candy pieces, it’s hard to do and a lot of people while saying “Hey that looks cool” might not want to hire you to make a fractal as a background for their ad campaign. For example Nike when they did that series of Lebron James (Or some other basketball player) and it has all the vector lines going around him, I have reason to believe that was done in Maya 3D. It’s too bad I can’t find the ad on YouTube, but if you know what I am talking about, then that would be the kind of thing to go for.

I know you probably won’t agree with me, so I am just going to agree to disagree because nobody really thinks alike. I have my own goals and priorities, while you may just do it for some other reasons, I do what I do for my own reasons.

I was only suggesting some programs that the person who asked the question might like to try out. It was “horrible advice” as I wasn’t saying “these are the only programs you will ever need”. I wasn’t talking about making digital art as a career because I don’t think that’s what the person who started this would want to do. I just suggested the programs and tutorials because those are good starting points. The person who started the thread may try out those programs and not like them but do research and find other programs they may enjoy using. The programs themselves are not considered digital art, more that what you create with them is. I’ve had a few offers from developers who are interested in using my art in their games. The person who started the thread said they were only interested in making art on a casual level, so I suggested some programs that would be a good start for a new user. In future please read the posts properly before you jump down my throat.

Topic: Off-topic / File Extraction

I don’t know where else I could post this but I’m having trouble extracting some files with ExpressZip. Before you say it’s the program, I’ve tried with 7zip and winrar and had the same problems. Basically, I want to install some custom content for Apophysis 7x but when I go into the folder, next to the name of the file I should extract, there’s an icon like a blank sheet of paper. I know this means it won’t work because I have this problem with sims 3 content as well sometimes.

I hope I’m doing the embed thing correctly:

Topic: Serious Discussion / Abortion

Originally posted by GameCrazyKid:

I am here to speak about yes, Abortion.

The argument for abortion seems to be something alone the lines of: “Its none of your business, it is the mother’s choice.”

And, while I have not actually talked about this topic that much, why is a fetus not legitimately considered a life? It is just in its early stage of development.

Secondly, if a woman didn’t want to have a baby, why was she having unprotected sex? (Yes, I realize the circumstances of rape can go against this but that doesn’t make it untrue. Because not all abortions are rape abortions. Most aren’t I would assume)

Do any of you SD’ers have a child? You probably don’t, but do you know someone with a small child? When you look at your child, or your friend’s child, would you find it easy to tell a doctor to kill it?

And, while it is always a choice in abortion does the baby have no say in it? Who knows who he could grow up to be!

Also, it isn’t like you have to keep the child if you legitimately aren’t ready to be a parent, there are adoption options. (No Rhyme Intended).

I haven’t thought heavily on the topic or else I would have more, but as for now that is my statement.

I don’t support abortion per se, but if the woman/girl (young girls get pregnant too) has been raped or sexually abused by a relative and fell pregnant or if carrying the baby to full-term would kill her (like if she had a medical condition or she was only a child of 6), then I would support it in those conditions. I don’t think it should be made illegal, because imagine all the dodgy abortions that would be going on.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Are girls getting too sexy at an early age?

Yes girls are too sexualised at a young age. Go into a shop like Supré aimed at 7-15 year olds and there are t-shirts with things like “sexy babe” and “you can’t have this ass” printed on them. They play with Bratz dolls with their huge pouting lips and tiny (read: skimpy) clothes and big heels and it’s teaching them it’s ok to dress like whores. I remember when I was in 5th grade, I used to get bullied because I didn’t wear makeup to school or wear short skirts. On free dress days, I’d go in jeans and a t-shirt and no makeup and all the other girls would be in tiny skirts or shorts with hair extensions, dyed hair, the works. There are places that market stripper poles to 8 year olds and girls as young as 11 go to get bikini waxes. Girls are taught from a young age they’re only worth something if they’re “sexy”. They’re not encouraged to be clever or kind or thoughtful or to have a personality. They are taught they have to be like the hos in rap videos- just shut up and look hot.
