Thanks guys, but besides more healing are there any specific cards I should try using? I am a pyromancer, so what cards would you recommend I aim to get?

I just started playing this game, and I am actually having a great time with it.

However, I have just started encountering the beast-men in area one. When battling them, my attack cards will randomly damage my character instead of them. In case that doesn’t make sense, whenever I would do damage to the beast-man, say 6 damage, it randomly splits the damage between it and my own deck. Say 4 damage for it and 2 for me. This makes the fights a little too tough, and I find myself losing about half the time, since my healing cards do damage and hit me I can’t even stay alive using those.

So I guess my question is: Am I just a n00b and this is an ability of theirs that was never introduced? Or is there something wrong?

Tldr: Beast-men are too tough, but the wiki says they should be pushovers. What’s up with that?
