Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Vorp!] What is Thrust Power and how does it work?

I would like a confirmation on this also. My guess is that thrust dictates the ability to accelerate, max speed controls the maximum non-afterburner speed, and afterburner power is a multiplier that raises both of those numbers.

Example (Squiddy):
Thrust: 260
Max Speed: 140
Afterburners: x1.6
Thrust w/ afterburners: 260*1.6 = 416
Max Speed w/ afterburners: 140*1.6 = 224

I’m not saying this is correct, but it’s the only thing I could think of that makes sense.

For the most part, I agree with you. Without the statistics, we can’t get that distance. With the statistics, we are not only armed with objective data (whether or not we use it objectively is up to each individual), but we can’t forget some of the people who have played 1000-umpteen matches. Some of them might see things in the game that don’t show up in the statistics, and then we have to intelligently reconcile both. I want to point out that I’m not agreeing with sensationalists like Masakarii, but we should still be listening to the players that make thoughtful comments on balancing. Keynup makes a good point about things that didn’t show up in the statistics affecting the match. I would like to know if a low killrate SS Venture really makes their team more likely to win.

+1 This is absolutely correct. I find it hard to take the haters and the people who cry OP seriously when the developers have put out regular updates to fix balancing issues. Not only that, but a lot of the ships are pretty well balanced when they come out in the first place. Furthermore, the people who scream the loudest like to make it out like the developers are just partying all of the time and don’t care what anyone has to say or whether or not the game succeeds. It’s not too hard to see that this is a terrible type of argument.

Some of them are in numbers already. Anything dealing with loadouts and percentages, the math is trivially easy. ie: If I have Iron Wolf’s alpha cannons at level 2, the base damage is 17. If I then apply 3 damage techs which increase damage .75% each, I have a damage increase of 2.25%. 2.25%=.0225, the increase is 100%+2.25%=102.25%=1.0225 so my new damage amount is 17*1.0225, which is 17.3825. Having the game do the calculations would be nice, but I’d prefer they work on other, more important things.

The one problem this would solve, is for stuff where the base numbers aren’t readily available. For instance, I can’t find the base sheep speeds anywhere, so how would I be able to calculate the increase from a tech? Another thing I’d like to know is, if the increase gives a fractional result, does the game use the entire value, round to the nearest whole number, round up/down, or truncate at a specific decimal place? In the above example, I’d like to know if those three damage techs are still only giving a damage of 17 because of rounding.

Yes to during game. No to before game. There’s no reason to penalize someone for leaving before the match starts, because that doesn’t really alter the match. That is, the player is replaced with a different player.

So it seems like there are tons of posts criticizing the developers, or whining about how such and such is way OP. I won’t pretend that any game is perfect, but I happen to think that the developers do a good job of fixing problems and releasing content. I also happen to think it’s a pretty good game for being in beta and made in Unity.

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Vorp!] My first feedback for a game on Kongregate

Tech is pretty good the way it is. We don’t want tech to be too overpowering, and if you can just buy the tech you want right away, there’s just going to be a bunch of powergaming.

The game does not need a trading house (see above). If there were more things available for customization, and a different system for acquiring items (loot or something), this might make sense, but with what is available now, no.

Handpicking teammates sounds great, but right now there are a limited amount of people online right now, and matchmaking is difficult the way it is. Help promote the game so there are more people playing, and submit the idea for having larger teams to the devs to consider when they’re ready.

Ranked matches: see above. The game is still in beta and we don’t have a big enough base for both ranked and unranked matches. It would, however, be nice to have a casual matchmaking thing so newbies could play against each other, or people could experiment with ships or whatever.

I agree to some extent with the bang acquisition thing. A lot of people already agree that we need better ways to gain bang. A lot of the proposed ideas are pretty hard to code for. Maybe they’ll come up with some more ideas, but it works alright right now. Honestly, if you don’t help your team out, you’re probably not going to do well enough to earn a lot of bang anyways, and we probably don’t want people complaining that they earn no bang when they lose to a stacked team, either.

I absolutely agree with you that we should have some sort of check on afkers, quitters, and the like. It does get really frustrating when you play several rounds back to back, losing repeatedly because you lucked out enough to have a team of quitters and feeders. This is something the devs probably need to get on soon, because it sucks when matches average 20-30 minutes.

Ship selection: not having all of one ship is a design choice the developers made at the beginning. If you don’t like it, too bad. You can buy a different ship with bang or use a free rotation ship.

Long story short, yes the game is still in beta. There is work to be done, yeah, and I agree with you about a number of changes they should make in the future. Give it time. I agree with TAO_Arecibo that the game has been designed pretty well thus far. Otherwise I wouldn’t be playing it.

I don’t know what game you’re playing. I get a ton of shinobi kills in the enemy base. People get comfortable when they’re near their depot, so they’ll let their health drop into the one-shot range. I still get a ton of kills when I don’t straight one shot. If you’re in a team in a base, you can be just as useful even if you don’t get the kill. Suddenly knocking out 50% of someone’s energy instantly drastically shifts the momentum of a fight. 1 slice plus some shoggspurts and your chances of escape aren’t good. It can also kill good players if done right. If you can avoid too much damage from the other player, you get the kill. If they run, you can use the dash to get the kill. Not always foolproof, but it’s not nearly as impossible as you seem to think.

Death mark is really useful sometimes. There have been a lot of times where I slash someone down to almost no health and they get away, but they still have the mark on them. If for some reason I can’t chase, it’ll sometimes kill them on their way to the depot. That said, I don’t level it until later, as the other skills are more useful.

You’ve gotten feedback from the community. See the above posts. The developers are capable of checking the forum regularly to see this stuff, you don’t need to scream. If you post an idea, they will eventually tell you whether they plan to work on it or not.

I don’t agree that all rewards should be gotten rid of, but I do agree that they tend to reward most for having a good k/d ratio, streaks, etc. If rewards are given, there should definitely be some for heals, buffs, assists, and other things like that.
