I'm looking for a better way to parse XML data
You should look at how other people read XML files from Ogmo editor and similar data. All of it has a structure of some kind. Draco has already given you the appropriate code for your situation, though. The split() function is very useful.

Coding on Timeline?
If you are an animator and use the timeline for that reason, some ActionScript code on the timeline could help you with some of your animation tasks. For example, you could have animations inside containers and require the main timeline to continue after the container’s timeline gets to a certain point.

Actionscript 2 Programmer needed
AS2 is pretty much a dead language and for good reason. Only reason you would ever have to use it is if you are an animator trying to add simple interactivity to a timeline. Even then, AS3 is not much harder in most cases. You just need to understand how typical programming languages work. That includes type casting, declaring variables, and so on. I recommend you have a look at Stencyl if you want to make games without any programming skills. Beyond that, Game Maker Studio is very good for beginners. Unity requires a bit more programming experience in order to really make use of it, but you could try it anyway.
Good luck with whatever you do!

[AS3] Looking For A Partner
@RealitieBeats:
That’s Unity. The topic clearly states “[AS3]”. Why are you even here? (Granted, Unity is great.)
@evan999333:
I personally enjoy making roguelikes and, well, RPGs in general. I used to toy around with RPG Maker constantly when i was a kid, and I have two RPGs in the works, one in Unity (just learning how Unity works for now) and one in AS3 (FlashDevelop + Flixel + Air). I would consider helping you if I thought you could help me in return. Skill trades are nice.
Why can’t you make your own UI. Roguelikes do not require much in that field. You really only need a basic interface to handle inventory items and equipment and maybe spells or abilities. Then, you really don’t need to worry about a UI at all if you don’t want to. Some of the best roguelikes in history did not have any graphical menus; just the game environment and some text.

Notepad?
HTML really only requires a text editor. JavaScript is, however, a lot more difficult to get working with just a text editor. It helps to have syntax coloring, indentation and encapsulation, bracket highlighting, and so on. Notepad++ offers a lot of those useful features without straying far from the feel of Notepad.
As far as Kong goes, I think you should look into developing Flash-powered games with FlashDevelop IDE.

Interest for GiTD #27? Possible Dates inside
Oct. 25 should work for me, too, but does that mean it ends and judging begins at that time? Or does it mean we start working on our games at that time?

Artist looking for work
Your art is nice, but I am not in need of concept art at all. Do you have any game assets to show off? I would definitely consider hiring you for some 3d model construction or some sprite sheets or tile sets.

Yeah, this is such a misleading topic. I didn’t expect much to be offered, but I was still disappointed. lol

KBO: Looking for programmer to pick up project
I sent an e-mail. The project is very interesting, but the site has very little to show. Are there no demos or prototypes or anything? I would at least like to see a screenshots section. :)

Writer for Hire
@drummerlive1:
You seem to be confusing writers with programmers, but I am not sure.
@OP:
What kinds of stories do you write? What technical knowledge/experience do you have? Does your post reflect your best writing capability? I do not need a writer right now, but I thought I would interject with some helpful questions. Also, it never hurts to bump a thread. ;)

Looking for another programmer
That looks pretty good to me for an old prototype. I would help if I had Haxe experience, but I only use FlashDevelop for AS3. I know nothing about Haxe other than that it is a middleman language that compiles to Flash and other platforms natively.

Programmer, willing to collaberate with anyone, will share revenue of whatever we make:)
Stencyl is a derivative of Flixel, but the program abstracts the coding process and makes it impossible to really understand how the game is working in some cases. I would rather use FlashDevelop and a few extra libraries to make the game. That way, you have direct control over the code and workflow of the game engine. Plus, your skills will be useful when working with non-Stencyl libraries and tools.

Programmer wanted! We have artist!
Knowing how to use Flash for coding purposes means you could use FlashDevelop, as well. They are not different in very many ways. That said, I know what you mean. ;)
I stopped reading when I read “zombie apocalypse”. I lost interest. It’s just another typical “survive the zombie apocalypse” idea. If this was a paid job, I would do it, but as a hobby, I would rather work on more interesting projects.

Need a programmer and musician!
It is not a proper link. Also, I am a jack-of-all-trades. I practice illustration, pixel art, programming, and music composition. If I was interested in your project, I could be a major help, but this looks very uninteresting.

When making a RPG game what is the first thing to program?
Back on topic, I think the first portion of an RPG that you should worry about coding is the level class, allowing the levels to be initiated. After that, you need to add player and NPC movement and dialogue and whatever else your game will offer.

FIRST SERVED, FIRST COME! Wait... eh, FREE GAME KEYS!
I place these keys here because I don’t need them and the games are worth your time. I would also probably like someone to play Trapped Dead with. ;)
Trapped Dead: CRIHY-XK40A-KK69H
Twin Sector: AG8QZ-9780I-EYK3D
Remember, these keys are only usable once! First person to use them, please, post saying you used them so nobody else has to waste their time!
See ya!
P.S. I’m working on a Flixel RPG and I wouldn’t mind having someone to work with. Anyone interested?

How much a programmer cost? :)
I would take $30/hr for a game programming job simply because games are somewhat enjoyable. I am a college student, too, so it would help my portfolio, as 1337al mentioned.

How much a programmer cost? :)
I charge $20/hour for web development contract work, and on very rare occasion, I accept Flash (AS3) projects to make applications, but I usually negotiate a total project cost for those applications. The last Flash job I had was about two weeks of work, 3 hours per day, for $200 total, $50 initial start-up fee and $150 at project completion. It was a fun project, though, and I really learned a lot about the differences between CS3 and CS5 from it. (CS3 video doesn’t work properly for example.) The $200 really didn’t cover my $20/hour web rate, but again, the project was fun.

Im a Programmer looking for Project/Team
Not much of a sample. Still, I see some potential, and I am probably around the same skill level with AS3. I think we could collaborate very efficiently since I know my way around code, as well. If you do only code, I will focus mostly on art, but I can jump in and help test and debug the code and also suggest changes.
Let me know privately if interested. I don’t check this forum often. It is too disorganized for me.

Finding old project you gave up that could've turned out great
I give up on old projects for a reason, but I do uncover old art which could have turned out great or been used for something.
