Just a note that I’ve currently got some time available for music production after completing other music projects.

Drop me a reply if you need music.

Hi all,

I’ve been busy not developing games, but composing music.

I specialise in high quality orchestral pieces, piano, ambient and soundscapes. But also dabble in other genres.

My youtube channel offers a good selection of my pieces:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Plowking2?feature=guide

(all my music is original, but note that the latest upload is my rendition of the ‘Raiders March’ by John Williams – as this was an orchestration and library exercise – but even that will give you a great benchmark for the sound I create).

A lot of my music is game and film inspired. Horror themes and sci-fi are also two of my favourite genres to compose for.

I’m willing to discuss terms regarding music use, and bespoke creation of music (share opportunities etc.)

Regards
Graham (GamesofCthulhu)

Topic: The Arts / The Necronomicon: 2 Art required

Hi, every achievement can be viewed to see what is required to obtain it. Though I am thinking of adding a couple of secret ones which will only tell you how you got it after the fact.

But yes, all other achievements will be selectable to see how to get it.

Card idea’s are always welcome. Can’t promise I’ll use them all (or any) but if it’s really useful then I’ll certainly add it. Like the Bookworm card suggested, and the getting the art for it at the same time was great. I haven’t got any outstanding cards that need art now. All made cards have art…but I reckon I’ll need to make more cards.

Oh nice…thanks for that Suited. I’ll use that for the Mob hideout card.

And Djuzam, the bookworm card idea is great – and so is the pic. I’ll use that for sure.

Thanks for the molotov art as well, but I’ve done my own pictures for some cards and one of them was the molotov. See below:

for the Great Race of Yith card

And now for the bad news…..

I just found out that Kongregate limit the width of the flash file (game) to 700 pixels wide. The game is 1000 pixels wide. This means that I’ll have to scale the whole thing down – which in flash is not too hard, except in this case it could mean that a lot of text becomes unreadable. So I’ll have to rework stuff…

I like these quirky little strips. They made me smile, unlike ‘real’ webcomics of which most are rubbish. Miscarriage storyline, anyone?

More scribbly awesomely randomized awesomeness please….

Dev update -

Beta closing soon.
Game changes – Having sanity less than zero now prevents you from casting any sanity costing cards. You have to either discard to regain sanity, or use other ‘normal’ cards. The point about this not being in the first game was that getting the AI to discard as well was a problem – that’s now fixed as the AI will ‘think’ a lot better about cards to play and discard if he has to.

Achievements – I removed the very controversial ‘Challenge Mode’ idea completely – it was the biggest gripe of the first game. I’ve replaced it with achievements to unlock. You unlock these achievements in the normal game (similar to Xbox live achievements) – things like winning a round without using arcane attack spells, or having x amount of life left, dealing x amount of damage, etc etc. There’s a ton of them that could be created.

These are things you could unlock by chance just playing normally, or you can purposely play with the idea of getting a certain achievement, which can mean holding on to specific cards to use at the right time.

Deck Editor – done, dusted, and working – BUT, the game has a small card based (currently 47 cards made and working) and so the idea of a deck editor is limited within this scope. Also, the deck editor would need to be heavely restricted so that you can’t just make an uber deck of high damage, best creatures etc. (I need to think about this more and find a balance)

More cards – more more more…this is the biggest time user, making more cards, playtesting them, programming them. It took me hours just to add another creature to the game. Perhaps that is due to my own inefficiencies in programming, but not so sure about that…this game is very very complex, with hundreds of variables and so impact and changes are big for anything I add.

Its looking good though, I’m happy to say – looks very nice graphically (thanks to a lot of people here), plays very nice logically (lots of updates since the beta) – just has loose ends to tie up, and needs more balance. For instance I now have a number of ‘Tome’ cards you can play, but I have no card yet to destroy those Tomes in play. That’s the type of balance I need to add.

…more info soon (I hope)

Hi all…

There hasn’t been any news from me in a while and about the current state of the game. Sorry about that. It hasn’t been the best environment for working on a game lately. Issues at work, the whole economic bullsh*t thing that’s going on and then being too p*ssed off when I get home to sit down and program.

I like making games, but I don’t find it fun (if that makes sense) – and so it’s going to be a while yet. I won’t ask for more art as that wouldn’t be fair on you, and thank you all for the art you have given me. (whether some is used or not – I think a special thanks to all users here in the game credits is in order.)

Thanks for the beta feedback, some very useful suggestions, and when I get the game into a finished state you’ll be the first to know.

Sent you the beta details.

Ideally for the cocktail pic I’d like to see either a mob type guy throwing it (any bottle with the flaming rag hanging out of it) or perhaps the results of one having been thrown already and smashed in flames on the ground (or a store window?).

Thanks for the art guys…I’m sure I’ll find a home for it.

I’ll be setting up a beta version as soon as I can, should be before christmas.

I need some people to play with the new game style and give feedback, because I’m just not sure if it’s the right way to go or not. I’ll be limiting the deck, no deck editing allowed. You can play a normal game with a set deck against the CPU. I’d like people who have a genuine interest in giving constructive feedback only, so no (‘lolz that sux’) stuff. (If it does suck, tell me ‘why’).
Whisper me your interest, and I’ll reply with the url – but note, its not ready yet – still putting the beta together.

Hi still here, game is going slowly…having problems getting a mechanic to work. Discarding cards out of your opponents hand and ruining their hand may not be possible unless I rework from the ground up…and I’m not going to rework stuff. :)

Thanks for the pics folks…I’m filing anything I get away and assign cards to them in time.

moomanmatt – the game is based in the 1920’s – so modern weapons can’t be used. Plus I want the art to be styled with characters and creatures and not just inanimate object icon pictures.

Jack_fred123 – There’s a lot of programs that can be used, I’m sure I don’t even know a lot of them. I use Photoshop and sometimes flash for art. I’m not a fan of ‘MS Paint’ stuff.

yuyuter – check out this page – it’s a really good reference to how the creatures can look. Check out the flying polyp here. They DON’T have to be the same – I wouldn’t expect copies, just a similar kind of style.

Afraid not ozzy123 – can’t see a place for it. Sorry.

yuyuter – thanks for the submission. Though it looks too much like the head of a mi-go rather than the flying polyp. the flying polyp is a really gross looking thing.

There’s a good bit still to be done. I’m busy intergrating the cards I have at the moment, then when I’m done with that I can get a better idea of what remaining cards would be needed and what art would be needed for those cards as well.

Much higher res for the new game – makes everything clearer and easier to read.

While it’s all very funny, really it is :) I don’t really want this to turn into a topic just for messing about!

As for Rick, surely his pure evilness would rip the fabric of space-time asunder and plunge us all into a new dark age of carnal desires and hideous tortures…or, something. like. that.

Ah, there it is – nice piece. Why would he sue? Really now, at worst he would say I don’t want the image used for that medium. So I’ll change it.

I’ll see can I contact the chap and send an image.

Hi drunken – didn’t colour it yet. I’ll get on it…

I certainly doubt it as I didn’t know myself. That was supplied to me by another user here.

I can’t find this art link anywhere – can you show me this art?

LoL…it’s no problem!

Anyway, don’t have all the art yet, and still have some cards to make as well. I’ve been away from the computer for a few days so now it’s time to get back to programming.

Hi CainDarkk, thanks for the offer. I have the books myself, but I don’t want to use them directly as I don’t want to give Chaosium any excuse to claim copyright.

They do act as a good guide to what creatures etc to draw though, but a direct copy of them would not be usable.
