Finding it weird that no one has yet thought of making a flash clone of this game
I actually played a lot of chaos overlords a few years back, and thought it was awesome fun. It’s available as abandonware, I believe… go give it a try! Crappy graphics and horrible controls, but great atmosphere and gameplay for a turn based strategic game.
Can’t make it myself, I have too many things on my plate at the moment.. D:

Yes, a more intuitive chaos overlords would indeed be awesome fun. Somebody make it, please!

New Profile rolling out to everybody

I’m really loving how the people trying to convince us that a lot of people actually love this update complaining we don’t look at their “proof,” when those same people complain that we are “resistant to change” after providing objective and subjective feedback about the update and saying “because of this, we do not like it.”
If we changed back to the old profile years later, and you didn’t like it because you like the new layout, would you be “resistant to change”? What the fuck do you want?
I… just wanted you to love me… :~(

Profile page redesign: now with a feed!
looks good so far. can’t wait to test it out. having the numbers “magazine style” at the top of the page is a nice touch, too. Any chance of an opt-in feature so that we can try out the new profile page?

How do you rate?
I usually rate based on how entertaining the gameplay is. Something that does things in a new or unexpected way usually gets at least a 4 from me, and I instantly give 5’s to games that have procedural generation, done well!

Game advertisement through PM Spam

The one I’m most annoyed about, if it’s a sign of things to come, is the Cluesweeper appletunesphone appstore message today. The other three games that have messaged me were about updates to the game on-site, two to say updates were out, and the other to ask for some further feedback, so that’s sort of fair enough.
Can you require that these messages don’t send us offsite, or at least don’t require you to go and buy something expensive like a mobile phone/pod/tablet in order to make use of the information they’re sending you?
Whoops. Sorry about that. Was just testing the feature after reading about it in this forum post (ironically enough!)

Nerdook and the unfair treatment of game developers..
To be fair to Greg, rawismojo and team, the game was at 8,000+ plays when the rating stabilised at 3.89. It’s pretty unfair to accuse it of ‘only fanboys knowing it exists’, because I don’t have THAT many fans, despite what other devs (especially those with a ton of weird games and lots of forum posts) seem to think.

Nerdook and the unfair treatment of game developers..
Actually, I’ve said this several times, but I guess it won’t hurt to say it again. The “fanboys” aren’t as numerous as you think, despite the comments, and there are plenty of people going “oh it’s nerdook, 1/5 automatically” as well, which actually has a BIGGER effect on the game (do the math). The games themselves tend to have a rating very, very similar to that on other sites where I don’t have a fanbase, and I always try hard to make each game mechanically different.
“everyone should ideally always be judged as if what they are doing is their first time doing it.” – Oh how I wish! If this was true, nobody would ever say “your art style is so similar” ever again!

gazes at thread
But… I’m right here! Talk to me! Also, Super Samurai Sweeper is doing pretty well outside of Kong. Agreed: the lack of a free ability reset is an oversight, but I just wanted to make something different. Different art, different style of play, and I even made a special animation when you reset your save. It went through a lot of testing, and the reason it’s only 8 levels long is so that you can play through again, play smarter, and learn the correct tactics/strategy that can win you the game. Probably not a good fit to the Kongregate crowd (which is surprising), but it is currently rated really well on the jayisgames review and newgrounds (which is also surprising!).
As for Mardi Gras Mayhem… well… I did my best with the constraints I had, and as mojo said, the rating was fine when it was badged (we monitored it, and it seemed to hold steady at 3.89 after close to 10,000 plays)… there’s more to the story, but let’s leave it at that.
also!!! no, it’s not a Nerdook quest.

mmm.. a quick 2 cents: for those saying “hey adblock would have solved your problems!”, let me just say that by using adblock, you’re really harming developers by reducing the income from their hard work. and lower income = less chances of good games. sure it benefits you in the short run, but in the long term it’s not a good idea, to say the least. the good old tragedy of the commons.

Also, certain Kongregators can be pretty stingy with a 5/5 or even a 4/5 rating.
If a game is getting a good rating, I’m pretty sure it deserves it.
(Although there will undoubtedly be cases where you highly disagree, in which case you always have the freedom to rate 1/5)
I know exactly what you mean. I’ve talked to fellow kongregaters that expect games to pretty much be XBOX LIVE ARCADE quality (with HD graphics and the works). It’s a bit scary at times. They do realize the games are free to play right?
Absolutely and completely free. :D But we still have some pretty amazing games for flash standards.
Except for that one game. :x
By the way… good publicity for nerdook. ;D I bet he’s gonna get more fans from all this attention about his games.
Thank the OP!

The real problem is Kongregate seems to give badges to appease fans rather than critics. An example of this would be that dreadful game Battalion. Almost every game got 2 or more badges. Great for the fans of the game, but it’s irritating when you despise the series. What about Reincarnation? Even the Pizzeria series to some extent. Repetition is awful when you’re bored to tears by it and badges churn out every day.
This is why some of the anger is taken out on Nerdook. Let’s get something straight: Nerdook is repetitive. I never paid attention to the gameplay but from what I saw, the games were actually different in gameplay. The art style, however…
Isn’t the whole idea behind making a game (and getting it badges) is to appease the fans? Let’s face it: Most critics are talentless hacks that can’t do something themselves so they decide to bash on whoever. It’s basically a troll’s dream career. Not to say that anybody here is a talentless hack but if it works, why change it? He has fans and they enjoy his work. Mission accomplished. Remember, these are FREE GAMES. You can be picky but please move on. If you invested 60 bucks into every game you played, then you would have room to complain.
So as I see it, this thread can be summed up into several factions:
Those that defend nerdook for their own reasons
Those that criticize his games for their own reasons
Those that are jealous of his games for their own reasons
Those that choose to troll nerdook for their own reasons
Seeing as how it’s all opinions, there’s not much to discuss here. Nerdook will make games as I he sees fit and should he feel like using some of the constructional criticism, that’s his choice. Regardless, I’ll still 5/5 his next game…just because I already know the game is going to be awesome.
also faction number 5: nerdook himself! :D

Would be rather strange if badges were given to appease CRITICS, wouldn’t it? I mean, they don’t even like the game much in the first place… :P

PROBLEM with your games: none of them contain cyborg t-rexs

also, nobody celebrates halloween where I live, so I can safely assure you that the game is not halloween themed. in any way, shape or form.
