to be honest, it’s really just about how much effort you’ve put into the characters.

If you have a level 30 Sharla, she IS better than a level 15 Elwyen.

I personally ignored sslen’ck, vehrn, meraeador, and zach, and therefore they never became regular party members.

Even in the lost monastery I didn’t use vehrn, because he was barely better than when I had gotten him.

Topic: MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3 / Rank Characters in terms of effectiveness

1. Mardek!
I don’t care if people say he’s for heals, shields and support. Throughout the game he did the most damage of anybody. You can cover every element except dark (unless you get a dark sword, but the only good one curses), aether, fig, thauma, and physical.
2. Gloria
Her combination of damage, stat lowering, heals, buffs, and strangely high health for a mage make her a staple in most fights. And the nulls are a godsend on the elemental guardians/red dragon/any single element boss.
3. Legion
Damage? Check. High HP? Check. The only fig and thauma attack? Check. He is just so dang versatile, though his skillset needs some work to round out.
4. Elwyen
She can kill pixies. Nuff said. And she’s hilarious.
5. Meraeador
I never used him much, but since he was such a key part in my defeat of Animus, he gets place 5.
6. Solaar
The most situational of any of the “good” ones. Abysmal health, huge mana costs (galaxy burst is a joke), and having little use in trash mob situations made me neglect xyr after the dark temple. Now, I’m not saying xe’s bad! Still got the best heal, one of the few pixiecides earlier in the game, and the only revival spell in the game. Too bad xe’s always the dead one. Spirit graft is also amazing on Elwyen.
7. Sharla
She was good in the earth temple. That’s it. But her heal isn’t that bad, agility boost is nice, and thunderbolt was constantly doing 1500+ damage on almost everything.
8. S’slenck
I ignored him. For the ENTIRE CHAPTER. Now I’ve defeated Animus and he hasn’t mastered perforate yet.
9. Donovan
He’s not good at all. But I had to use him for the sun temple, which is more time than Vehrn or Zach.
10. Vehrn
I loved him in ch2, too bad he starts with nothing mastered and equipment that he used 3 years ago.
11. Zach
I just never pick this guy up soon enough. Currently he’s below even Vehrn. At least I have the yin and yang.

Weird, I found the survival tournaments very easy.

I had already beaten the annihilator (both forms), so I simply used the scarab of protection and scarab of health.

I suppose yellow fairy would also work.

Also, getting the champion sword helps as well.

Crazy Theory: currently the couples are Mardek+Elwyen (I think they’ll make up), Emela+Deugan (for a very short time), Donovan+Sharla, and what appears to be Meraedor+Gloria (just look at them holding that book together). So….
Zach x Vehrn, maybe? S’slenck x Solaar? Baron von Doomkill x Deena?

Another, even crazier theory: the world’s saviours show up again.
