Topic: Game Programming / .bat file from swf

Yeah, I could easily do this in another language. I was more just curious if I could do it the way I had imagined it might work but no and thats fine.

Topic: Game Programming / .bat file from swf

could I somehow compile a .bat file by running a swf file from my desktop, I had the idea of making a bat that opens something else and deletes itself after its no longer needed. That way I could just run the swf and open any game i want, or combine with url links to shortcut to certain websites. Maybe even make “projects” that save or open a bunch of stuff at once.

I know I can run bats

“If you publish as a projector then you can use flash.system.fscommand to execute anything in the sub-folder named “fscommand”.

import flash.system.fscommand;
fscommand( “exec”, “test.bat” ); "

So I could make a bat per shortcut but I’d rather generate them to save effort. Possible? I saw someone import dooms levels into as3 once, or something like that.

Found the article on embedding dooms application/octet-stream and interpreting it as a ByteArray

Topic: Game Programming / canvas link

Ah, thats what they meant. If you want to share a game to facebook thats a whole ’nother set of bananas.

There may be an easier way to find the “share” for your game, what I did was
1. go to your game on kongregate (the webpage where you play your game)
2. on the right side, the chat/game/more games that you see, click on “game” if its not already the selected tab
3. click on “share game”, you should then see several options including facebook
4. click facebook
5. facebook will then popup (unless it was blocked) and you will be required to sign in to your facebook to proceed
6. upon signing in, your new post will appear and you will be given several options including “share link”
7. click on “share link”
8. ???

Topic: Game Programming / Voice acting support

I sent an email, and added you on skype. Also wait a bit before posting this in collab, maybe a very nice mod will move it.
Edit: I checked out their youtubes and the stuff they have read and voiced is absolutely great, would make a perfect asset to any game, horror or otherwise. They were very polite and down to earth, very real and professional. If you are looking for voice actors, why are you looking? You’ve found them.

Wow. Yeah gravedigger is really awesome. Good Job guys.
I don’t immediately have any projects that deal in horror other then my zombie apocalypse related stuff. But this makes me think… Maybe I could give hunt or die some voice acting for some atmosphere..

try googling
get it? its a joke because its not google.

I’m going to assume you’ve already googled though. I haven’t personally uploaded a facebook game but it looks like its a little more complicated then just embedding it.

Topic: Game Programming / weird url issue

Well my domain website gives me these options to point to my URL

Types of URL forwarding:
Masked - (Recommended) The destination URL will be rendered in a frame, allowing your domain to remain in the address bar of the browser.
301 Redirect - (Recommended) The source domain or subdomain will be redirected to the destination URL using a 301 (permanent) redirect.
302 Redirect - The source domain or subdomain will be redirected to the destination URL using a 302 redirect.

I’ve been using masked, because if I use either of the other two, it displays my IP address in the destination URL bar. But from your advice, it appears I don’t want to use this masked setting. Instead it seems I should be able to hide my IP from my side reflecting from what you are suggesting.

Topic: Game Programming / weird url issue

please forgive me, I’ve never worked with websites before. I thought iframes had to do with HTML5, and I didnt even know you could load a webpage inside a frame on your webpage? I don’t even know the difference between a frame or a page, or knew there was a distinction between them until which is very useful to know. It was absolutely easier then easy to do this, you would think they would go to lengths to prevent such a thing. I was basically visiting kongregate within my own webpage…frame? Which sounds illegal or discouraged.

Thank you guys, I chose to put my webpage in a iframe because its what my domain website gave me an option to do rather then a redirect. This was to hide my IP from immediate view. Going to take your advice and not use frames to display different pages, as soon as I figure that out with google. Then I’ll come back with a solution.

It may not be kongregate that removed it, it could have been the creator or owner of the game.
Kongregate should only remove games if they breach policy in some way.

Hm? But I’m not using wordpress Draco, or at least I didnt think I was. I’m using Apache from part of xampp. But from what you are saying, it sounds like this is indeed something wrong with Apache or xampp. I’m also displaying my webpage inside an iframe, not sure if that indicates anything.
Is the thing I did terrible because opening new tabs is messy?

Alright, so if I do

TARGET="_self"

it produces the weird error which is the same as not specifying a TARGET attribute at all, it defaults to _self if I’m not mistaken. Instead I tried the _parent attribute and that works much better and produces the expected result of clicking on a link and the current tab changing to that url, and the destination url changes correctly too. _top also works.
But I think I’m still going to have the kongregate and youtube open in a new tab, is that really that terrible of design?

explanation on TARGET attribute

Solutions:

When linking pages…
If you use TARGET=“_blank” as the attribute in the example

<A HREF="https://www.kongregate.com/accounts/ArcStudios" TARGET="_blank" >My Kongregate</A HREF>

This is bad design, and bad practice to open a new window with every link.

When you don’t specify a TARGET attribute as in…

<A HREF="https://www.kongregate.com/accounts/ArcStudios" >My Kongregate</A HREF>

this will cause the TARGET attribute to default to _self and is the same as the following

<A HREF="https://www.kongregate.com/accounts/ArcStudios" TARGET="_self" >My Kongregate</A HREF>

This will cause the link to load in the current page, which is very bad! For Example, if you are at bobsburgers.org and you click on a link exactly like the one immediately above, instead of going to kongregate.com you will essentially be visiting kongregate from within your own webpage.

Solution to using pages instead of frames coming soon!

only you can view this link, while you are logged in. This is the direct link, you can also find it by hovering your mouse over your username near the top of the page, and then click on “my revenue summary”

I was really looking forward to using their services. How could I even find anything close to them. From what I understand they kept track of your game even if someone stole it and uploaded it somewhere else on the internet and you still made money from it.

Thank you for the fast reply adv. I’ll give it a go.
Did you buy the protection that “registers your domain name privately” ?

@Trent Yeah it can be a little challenging to get your feet wet with.

@ graphicDesignC i keep seeing that. “domain name protection”. I’m wondering if that just hides your website from people who want to know who own it(confirmed). I wish you good luck with domain.com, I’ll check that site out too.

Topic: Off-topic / domain registration nightmare

Is it even possible to find a domain website that doesn’t have corrupt written all over it. I keep reading these horrifying reviews of people claiming to have had their domain names stolen or held ransom. I know they can’t all be true.

I don’t need webhosting, I just want to register a domain name without worrying about them deciding to keep it, whether its a week or five years down the road I don’t want someone telling me I have to suddenly fork over X amount of money or else. Are these all lies?
