Just a bit more info. math_master, on most forums there are stickies at the top of the forum, that contain a lot of the most used threads, maybe forum rules, and collections of posts that would otherwise clutter up the forum. Like I said, the stickies are always at the top, and good forum etiquette is to check them first to see if something is covered. It may even be against the rules to post something that fits in one of the stickies, although not for these forums I think…although I’m not sure.

The highest rated frame and the top rated games page are not very well designed. We still have sonny on the top rated games page and epic battle fantasy 3 on the highest rated frame. These are excellent games, but I always go to the “hot new games” when I want to come play a few games. So, what I’m suggesting is another page: Essentially “The hottest of the new games”, or maybe “recent popular games” to appear when you hover over “games” on the top bar. This is not a suggestion for another genre. These games would be sorted by popularity and how recent they are.

If you don’t like my suggestion, stop reading.

I have some thoughts on how the math could work out. One way it could be done is to have two more hidden variables for each game, which would be a rating and a number of raters. At the end of each week, these variables would become new updated ones using some weighted average of the new week’s ratings and the previous ratings. By favouring the new ratings, you form a geometric progression of weightings for all previous weeks. I think. I haven’t actually worked through the math, but it would definitely be something like that, and would give a good indication of recent ratings AND long term popularity.
