I might be misinterpreting here, but I think softest_voice was saying he finds it funny when people think international treaties supersede domestic law.

Discussion about race in America
were introduced to Christian salvation
“Introduced” is certainly a friendlier word than converted.
Let him go to Altoona and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for “deserving” white kids.
I do agree that affirmative action is silly. People should always be rewarded based off of merit rather than race.
Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?
I doubt any other racial group would do any better if put through 2 centuries of enslavement and than a century more of unequal racial segregation. It takes a lot to recover from that. If he’s implying that any other racial group would do better under those circumstances, that is the very definition of racism.
This isn’t the fault of (modern) white America, nor is it a failure of the black community. It’s a lingering problem from previous generations.

A Hard Concept To Grasp
What would it be like to live without feeling anything? What would it be like to live without understanding anything? What would it be like to live without even knowing that you cannot understand or feel because you are incapable of knowing anything?
It wouldn’t be like anything. You wouldn’t be conscious.

What do girls look for in the perfect guy?
I think it’s hard to make even a somewhat accurate generalization for ~3.5 billion people, other than the the basic stuff like being attractive (to them) and being nice (to them).

Which Social Group Are You In?

None, since I live in a country that doesn’t have these “groups”.
Everyone has potential to be friends with anyone, regardless of who you are.
It’s (for the most part) the same here, but just because you can hang out with people from other groups doesn’t mean you can’t fall into a category. Lions and tigers can mate but that doesn’t mean a lion isn’t a lion and a tiger isn’t a tiger.

How often do fights happen in your school?
There are barely any at the school because there are police on campus and nobody wants to get in trouble. There are tons in the neighborhood around the school right after school ends though.

some bitch gets a couple guys fired over a joke
If she was that upset about it why didn’t she first ask the guys to stop making lewd comments? Even in elementary schools you’re told to try to work things out with another student before talking to a teacher about it.

America, Liberals and Control (Feel better?)
or control over many debated topics, abortion, gay marriage, gun control, video game violence, energy drinks, cigarettes,
I’m not sure Obama himself had attempted to gain more controls over abortions/video games/energy drinks/cigarettes (though if he has it’d be nice if you linked the article. The only one on that list He’s pushed for more control over is guns. He’s actually
pushed for less government control over gay marriage by wanting to eliminate governmental restrictions on it.
As for liberals in general pushing for these things, yes, many (though certainly not most) have pushed for these things.

studies show that video games are the devil and turn you into an antisocial psychopath
Liberalism = more control, while Conservatism = less control
Though this could be seen as a good general rule (sort of), this should not be applied to all cases. In American politics, conservatives often want more government control over how people live their lives (and less over society and the country) while liberals want more controls over society and the nation as a whole (and less over individuals). Liberalism and Conservatism in American politics are complex positions. If you want a black and white, Libertarianism= Less control, Authoritarianism= More control.

gun control
That’s been a debated topic for years, it’s just that now it’s in the spotlight.
Suffolk County is attempting to control cigarettes,
That’s nothing new, major cities have been putting restriction on smoking for years now.
energy drinks and stricter video game controls are being attempted?
Not sure about energy drinks, but people have been trying (unsuccessfully I should add) to get stricter controls on video games for years.
I’m not refuting your point that pushes are being made for stricter government regulations in America, but it’s not something that started with Sandy Hook or something that started in the last few years for that matter. People have always pushed for and against government regulations and the power of the government in general.

Your opinions of Abortion
Perhaps I should’ve phrased that differently. We need to determine if a fetus can be considered a living human being. You noted that it is not self-aware; is self-awareness one of the key features of a human?

Your opinions of Abortion
I think the only way any type of consensus about this topic could ever be reached is by reaching a consensus concerning whether or not a fetus is alive. Until that happens this debate will never end, so I think any discussion regarding this topic which doesn’t focus on that point is unproductive.

Brief History of Swag and Nazis
Originally posted by Peccancy:
Hitler was a hipster.
“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.
It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.
Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).
You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.
The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity – “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” – so you project those feelings.
Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.
Pelvister.

Your opinions of Abortion
Also, correct me if I’m wrong again here, but I think that babies don’t actually breath at all until birth, and that might even take a minute on rare occasions.
You are correct. Until birth all of the baby’s oxygen is received via the placenta and umbilical cord. During the later stages of gestation fetal lungs may be seen “practicing” breathing by inhaling/exhaling amniotic fluid, but there’s no oxygen for it to actually breathe in and the fetus’s lungs aren’t fully functional or even able to fully expand until it is born.
