Topic: Programming / how to make a flash game without gamemaker
They are called flash games because you need FLASH to make them. After years of flash games being so popular, I fail to understand how people still don’t know this…

Topic: Kongregate / Buried Treasure Week feedback
Awesome! Just the response I was going for! Seriously
Thanks guys! But I promise my next cat-related game will be even dumber. I think Buried Treasure was a great idea. While I personally didn’t think any of the chosen games were great, it’s still a cool idea, and I liked playing games that I would probably have otherwise missed. Maybe in the future, instead of whole weeks, you could put an extra box at the bottom of the front page labelled “Today’s underdog is…”. No points challenge attached, but badges would be cool. Maybe also give users bonus points in general for playing underdoggish games, for example offering double points (10 instead of 5) for the first 1000 players/voters of every game (providing the user has a score submitted via the API to check that they actually played the game). This would make people seek out less popular games, but they could ignore the whole scheme if they didnt want to participate. |

Topic: Kongregate / RUNESCAPE does not belong! I’m against Runescape being on Kongregate. Not because of it’s format, or because it is or is not a good game (I havent played it). I’m against it because Kongregate, to me, is a place for small-time Flash/Shockwave/Java developers to show their games and build up a reputation, and maybe earn a little cash. It’s not fair for a huge, multi-million dollar company to crash the party and steal the thunder of the casual developers when their game is already famous and popular. |

Topic: Kongregate / Introducing Underdog Week! I just got home to 50 bug reports in my inbox. I hope you’re happy Greg!! But cheers for picking Jumpcat :) Seems like it’s been a contraversial choice, but at least now I know how to improve it. I mean, I won’t improve it, but it’s nice knowing how I could :p FYI (to everyone) “YOU SUCK” is not a bug report. It’s not a bug I’m willing to fix anyway. Greg, do you want me to foward you all the bug reports that are more Kongregate-based than Jumpcat-based? Most of the bug reports I got seemed to involve connection problems which are out of my hands. |

Topic: Games / Mario Kart Wii Tournement Anyone up for a Kongregate Mario Kart Wii Championship? I realise this game isn’t out in America or Australia yet, so this would probably happen on a night a few days after it’s US release. So, to become part of the tournament, create a Mii with your Kongregate username (or an abbreviated form of your Kong username), give it a profile on Mario Kart, and post the License Number/Code here :D Or if you don’t want to use a Mii with your username, make sure you make it clear when you post what the name of your Mii is, so I can keep track of scores between games. I’ll be updating this list with all the License Numbers. Make sure you add everyone on the list to your MK friends list, so you’ll be able to see them when we play. Feel free to bring a player-two guest when you play – the more the merrier! THE LIST: [Username – Mii Name – License Number] editundo – Scott – 5284-1540-9829 |

Topic: Games / New game, THANKS to all the testers :D Regarding the rechargable healthbar that Blazian_Pyron mentioned – after consideration I’ve decided this wouldn’t work with the current scoring scheme, where your score is added to the total when you lose a life. And with a recharging healthbar, people could play pretty much forever witohut dying, something I don’t want – it would be less of a challenge. But it was a great idea though, thanks. I might consider something like that for future games. |

Topic: Games / PS3 , Wii, Or 360? The Battle Marches On No-one’s mentioned the Wii’s virtual console yet; 20+ years of gaming, all accessable through a quick download. Although that said, I was extremely disappointed when I tried the original Legend of Zelda… |

Topic: Games / New game, THANKS to all the testers :D
Lol, I actually do this… I haven’t played Zack and Wiki for weeks because I don’t want to complete it too soon. Anyways, I literally have over 50 unfinished projects and I very rarely finish making a game because they get tedious – adding in a major extra feature like a shop and levels would push the project into the “gah, i really can’t be bothered to finish this” folder. But I appreciate the suggestions nonetheless :)
And so I shall.
Nice one :)
I considered it, but it’s just a number that goes up at a constant rate of 30 per second… although it’s something I’ll add in if I decide to start awarding points for things other than time.
I may add in “combo” points for avoiding several items in a row, like I did with Rocketcat.
I considered it, but again I didn’t want to over-complicate things. If, when the game is “finished” and there still seems to be something missing from it, I’ll add powerups :) But it’s not a priority.
There is a menu and this IS an endurance game :p unless you meant something else.
I always forget to add tails to my cats. Just now I tried to do a cool dynamic tail which reacts to gravity and motion… didn’t work though, so it’s just a plain old boring frame-by-frame tail. THANKS EVERYONE :D Your suggestions are noted. |

Topic: Games / New game, THANKS to all the testers :D Thanks to everyone.
I’ll experiment with that.
I’m too lazy to redraw the cat ;) I’ll put more items in if I can think of any that would introduce more of a challenge.
Okiedokie.
Thanks for the detailed bug report, I’ll look into it. Welcome to the forums :)
I want to keep this game simple… I’m working with another game at the moment with experience, levels, a shop, etc, and I don’t want to over-use the concept or I’ll get bored of programming it. But it’s a good suggestion. |

Topic: Kongregate / My Ad Revenue Report & Fraudulently game plays There’s no harm in you playing your own game, it won’t count as fraudulent ad views, as long as you aren’t refreshing the page hundreds of times to boost your ad revenue. When I first submitted my game, I think it took several weeks before I had any ad revenue. I don’t think it relies on how many view’s you’ve had – simply how long it’s been there. Last time I checked, revenue was updated weekly so if it’s been there less than a week you won’t see anything. Hope this helps. Possibly wrong forum though. |

Topic: Technical Support / Can't connect to chat =( For the last week or so, I have been unable to connect to the chat at all(light stays red). It worked for me previously and I haven’t changed my internet/firewall settings or anything like that since then. Is there anything I can do to remedy this, or is it a server-side problem? If yes to the latter, any idea when it will be fixed? I realise there are lots of other topics similar to this about server downage, badge glitches etc, but I didn’t find any recent threads which described this exact problem. Thanks in advance for any help, and I apoligise if I’ve been extremely stupid and that there have in fact been hundreds of people complaining about this exact same thing… |

Topic: Serious Discussion / Guy Fawkes Conspiracy We dont “celebrate” it here, it’s just an excuse to get drunk and wander the streets while watching the neighbour’s fireworks go off. Just like Halloween, New Years Eve, and even Christmas, their actual meanings aren’t observed by many anymore. In school we’re taught that Guy Fawkes Day is all about Guy Fawkes being caught when he tried to blow up parliament. Why that is of such significance, I dont know. It’s not like no-one’s ever tried to blow up governement buildings before. |

Topic: Serious Discussion / Banksy: Artist or Vandal? Banksy is probably the most famous European graffiti artist of the modern age. Many see his works as inspiring, meaningful, and insightful; but others see it as vandalism and destruction. He has also maintained complete anonymity: he has never been caught and no-one knows his true identity. His website: www.banksy.co.uk Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy So, the discussion I want to start here is, is he an artist, or is he a vandal? My opinion is that he’s a great artist; his work is completely unique, and portrays deep political statements, as well as being original and interesting to look at. And in the nature of true art, he’s not in it for the fame or money. All his work is done in public places for everyone to enjoy. |
