Thank you, I try though a combination of my over-consideration and lack of experience has led me to having devoted a lot of time to other projects and never getting far with them.

As I said in my first post these are very generous timetables based on only asking people to complete one or 2 animations a week instead of what people are probably capable of (I can do about one a day but I get burned out pretty fast.) simplifying the project cannot really lower the amount of work needed in the art department any more than it already is, the art required is the most basic and essential a game like this needs just to function without looking like clip art moving around on the screen and the number of characters is the bare minimum to make the game enjoyable.

I believe that if people know I’m not going to push them to breaking and that together they can create something like this in a reasonable timeframe then they have no reason not to be interested other than the game not being they’re type (I’ve had people quit on me for that)

@Ace_Blue I’m not asking people to work for free because I myself wish to, I’m asking them to because I have no way of paying them until after the project is finished and it makes revenue and I don’t mean to be presumptuous enough to tell anyone that what we will gain from my first project will be worth the effort economically. I understand not wanting to do anything without immediate gratification, it’s almost counter to human nature to aim at something they can’t see and devote effort to it. But I’m doing my best to lessen the amount of time a programmer would have to wait to see the fruits of their labor by not even bothering them until I have everything else (or roughly so) already made for them to put into the system. And I’ve done my best to prepare any artist joining by making written instruction and examples of what needs to be done on the project.

If I could pay someone I’d love to, because to do what I’m doing my reputation now and any I gain in the future will be based upon my performance as a businessman and how fairly I treat people from day 1, but this is the best I can do for now.

Hello Kongregate, I am Arch-Fiend, a passionate game designer interested in diving into the world of game development and becoming an experienced leader in the industry. This thread is my voice to many of you and other dedicated game developers in search of a project to lend your talent and experience to in order to further each other’s progress in the game development world.

The project I am advertising for your expertise is a small yet somewhat ambitious strategy and tactical game where a player commands a growing number of warriors after being tasked by the spiritual heralds of their land to protect the country from a new threat emerging from the west as a creature—dragon in name, but malice in heart—sweeps across the land. The two factions of the game represent Chinese and European cultures, but do not have that detail expressed in the game outside of imagery.

The gameplay consists of players entering numerous turn-based combat situations where they must plan their movements, use of abilities, and choice of units wisely in order to outmaneuver and defeat their opponents while trying to adapt to the 5 elements of wu xing that affect various elements of the game and use them to your advantage. Every fight a player wins earns them rewards they must manage and use for the long term to reach the game’s boss, the green dragon. Replay value involving an arcade-like scoring system integrated into nearly every aspect of the game ensures players countless ways to improve their high score in competition with other players.

As I’ve said before this is a small project but it is what I plan to be my first fully produced project, although, it not being the first I’ve worked on, I have some experience in my position. So far I’ve done some work already on the project, enough so that any future associates may easily step into their roles and perform to the project’s expectations. This includes two tutorials intended to teach the techniques for graphic development the project requires, a portion of the art assets completed or ready to be taken to the next steps, and a complete game design document. You can see some art that’s been done or attempted below.

If you are interested in joining me as part of our team then I am looking for individuals with the following skills.

Flash animation: skilled at using Adobe Flash to animate figures to express movement; I will supply a tutorial to explain the specific system of development this will involve.

Background design: the ability to use Flash and or Photoshop to create aesthetic and sometimes fantastic landscapes that can and will be animated.

Interface/menu design: making displays, buttons, and any part of the game structure aside from characters and backgrounds aesthetically pleasing and fit with the game’s themes.

The more team members we get with your skills, the faster this project will see itself completed so that we can move on to more ambitious and unique projects. We have no funds or investors to support this project, so it is purely a proof of concept to show what our collective efforts can create with no monetary exchange. Therefore, it is important to finish this project as quickly as we can while maintaining the quality standard the project demands. In order to do so we require a larger team then a beginner project like this would initially suggest.

Below are a few graphics that show the generously estimated timeframes I’ve calculated for the various roles of the project compared to the number of individuals involved in those roles. Each shows the role a artist would be involved with and below are the number of months it would take with a number of people involved. Beside is the number of individuals the team is looking for and how many we currently have. We are aiming at being done around 2 or 3 months from when we begin

I will mention I am not making a dedicated effort to seek out programmers yet because in the past I have had difficulty finding any who are likely to join the project before all the art is finished and who will also lend their services without returns. I understand being concerned by not having a programmer on the team yet but it’s just a factor of the business from my experience or a factor of my bad luck. I assure you I am dedicated to seeing this project through to the end and will go to great lengths to finish it, so every step of the process will be approached as the last are crossed.

If any of you are interested in joining my project, please privately message me on my Kongregate account. If you have any questions or comments feel free to post within reason. Thank you.

its not really so simple, thats a part of it though. like half. after that the animator needs to convert all frames to keyframs, remove tweens, and break some symbles down to objects agiuan because im a stickler for detail, certen objects should have a more fluid form like clothing then other parts so i want those to look and move more naturaly which requires them to change within each frame. heres a gif example (dont mind the color, the conversion to gif through my colors off a bit) http://twitpic.com/bq6nal. also there will be hard cell shading on more develiped peices (one from the example is placeholder for a demo) which requires a bit of tweeking from the animator.

Well. I can’t say I’m the best leader, designer, doer of game making person out there. The way I’m doing things is drastically unconventional and untrained, it makes it slightly more difficult to work for me perhaps, but with whatever strategy I’ve devised to get this project moving and for the amount of time I have, I’ve manage to do so. The project is getting finished, I be it, slower and perhaps slightly more clumsy on my part then I had hoped, but that should be the deciding factor for one looking to join me. “Are you a professional?” no “can you show progress?” yes.

Anyway that’s explaining myself, don’t think that I’m being defensive or anything :P just helping you know what you need to know. Thanks for replying

Ok there seems to be some confusion here because I have over time changed the fields of expertise I require as I’ve gained volunteers over time. So let me illuminate the situation as it stands.

Right now i am looking for a person trained with created graphic objects within an adobe flash program. This means to use lines and fills to create something that looks like what is desired.

I also require someone who can take said objects and make them move to express the desired effects.

Last I require a person who can take said animation frame by frame and give it depth with photo manipulation tools so that the shapes become forms that react to imaginary light sources we desire.

before i required a programmer until my good friend Elyius decided to join my team and make my game engine for me. Now if you’d like to help him then I’d have to ask him if he wants some. as for what I’m doing. I’m the project leader, my job is to make sure this gets finished the way i wanted. Also if designed the game and wrote the 20-30 page GDD to Elyius’s standards (and that wasn’t a walk in the park). As project lead i have a hand in everything, i direct work, i do work, by that i design graphics, animate graphics, and use Photoshop till they look perfect. I’ve done 75% of the current work so far and really I’m just looking for some assistance.

Thanks for the posts. Hope to receive more in the future :3

ok one last problem, ive finished the tutorial but the last bit the tutorial teaches you to do, which is the “win game” codeblock for a player whos survived all the waves will not work for some reason, the “you lose” codeblock is working though, but i cant find any difforences between the tutorials code and my own that would cause this issue
