Topic: Card Monsters / Alliance Thread

For those of you who can’t read the fine text in the skulls above.

Grime Reapers are looking to fill our 13th slot. We are the first alliance to reach the 13th member limit. We’re looking for players that want to do there AAs. There is a lot of swarm sharing so fret not if you’re trying to become a Demigod, we got you covered. Bug Seether11 or myself to join. We’ll be in touch, I’ll use words, Seether11 will probably reply with an airplane taking off or something.

Ya, I’d go with Seether too.

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerf Nerf Nerf and don't forget the Violence!

Note that we are talking about nerfs in general on this board. The act of nerfing, the claims of OP.

Now then, when we talk about the nerfing of Snail, Kuk, Judge, MM, Gleaming, Clerical, Flame, Glow, Bagpipes, Staff of Power, Musculard, Molten Core, Crocodime; It’s because they were previous targets of nerfing, some of them were nerfed, some of the nerfs (Bagpipes, Judgement) helped the growth of the game, others, (Gleaming, Staff of Power, Molten Core, Crocodime, and an off screen Kuk) hurt the community. I believe, from previous experience, that the general calling of nerfs is poor for the growth of the game. I am Judging this opon seeing great players leave because of time, effort, and money being poured down the drain when cards they put the above into changed into a different card.

As we seen from the Snail issue, which was being pushed for a nerf much, much more than RD is now, a new set came out, changes in the way decks were built and cards to deal with Snail arrived. Was Snail nerfed? No. Is edgebee’s effort to make Snail much more deal-able effective, YES! If my first post proved anything it’s that you can run non-RD decks and beat RD. And yes you have access to most of the cards, and yes you need to level them to level 5 to deal with level 5s, and yes you play with 14 cards vs 14 cards so sometimes you have to get creative with more than one, and yes edgebee will visit ways to take the edge off of cards that has public outcrys against, and yes you’ll have to wait for the new sets or changes to cards that won’t have an effect on the general population.

If my first post proved anything it’s that there are decks that can already answer RD, many of them on the backs of unlockables, so no, we don’t need to buff 20+ epics. Glow and Kuk, Flame and Clam, Fat Pincers and Blue Dragon, Gladior and Feline Rider, Dungeon Master and Musculard, Arch Mage and Squire f, Green Dragon and Sadi. These cards are all in good standing against RD, or in the general meta right now as a whole. Bringing up the power level of Glumbie, Squid, War Wraith is what we’re talking about, at least for monsters. And I don’t care what side you’re on, you can’t tell me that nerfing RD will increase the playablity of any of those 3 cards.

You can change a good amount of cards with a buff, but you won’t with a nerf, not when there’s so many cards that can just slide into the spot with nothing around them changing.

I thought my estimation of who used RD to be correct, if Funky uses one then I will change it to 3 of 7 use one.

SalemDeekat, I disagree with you, I feel every bit you should be on this list, you’re probably the greatest known threat in Dragon for your rank if not for anything else and you’ve managed to make a deck using cards that for the most part are available to everyone, unknowingly you spear headed the affordable, playable, decks. Plus you play very well, I rarely, if ever, see play mistakes on your side.

I will not be taking my arguments for specific cards any further than my first post. I’ve read the other thread and the line is drawn, I know what side you stand on, you know what side I stand on. If those threads couldn’t change you minds about those cards than this one won’t either. However, I can attempt to change your minds on what you’re targeting, or the general calling for nerfs as a whole. I feel nerfing in general is very poor for the growth and general enjoyment of the game. People have put time, money, and effort into getting and playing there cards. If we work on finding way to deal with those cards or bringing up the powerlevel of some cards like Glumbie, it’s effectively extending the general well being of the game as a whole. This thread if nothing else is an anti-nerfing thread.

The 7 names that I picked for this thread are in no doubt top players, but I’m not in the habit of ranking them myself, nor did I or could I have included everyone that deserves to be on this list. Bash, Raine, Schambes, Raisin, and anyone else that I didn’t add I’m sorry, I’m not devaluing your decks or telling you any of these people are worse than anyone else on my list. The 7 that I choose to put up are decks I know or have seen often in Live play. Since this isn’t a thread listing all the top players I didn’t see how rambling past a handful would get my points across any better or worse.

I will visit the argument of resources vs cards played that Jason brought up when I have more time to write. I will simply state for now that it’s horse-pocky to lean on the excuse, there are decks that can contend running few epics that actually need to be opened in packs. So I find the excuse based on little to nothing. I will be going into further depth over the next day or so, so wait for the big answer before you jump on this one.

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerf Nerf Nerf and don't forget the Violence!

It has become very common place to call for a nerf in this game, there are many cards that have been targeted in recent memory. The word OP is being thrown around very casually, nearly every card played in Dragon live has been called OP in the last 2 months. OP- Over Powered, a card or series of cards that have no consistent threat of losing. Honestly I don’t see any of these in the game right now. What I consider the top decks in the game, msr6, mcclarenf1buff, Saalemdeekat, Justanewhand, Shadowhacker, funkymonkey, acturayl. 5 of these 7 people have figured out how to use top decks without RD, 4 have figured out how to use top decks without flame, 6 have figured out how to do it without Glow or Kuk, 5 have figured out how to do it without BD, 1 has figured out how to do it without Judgement.

The point being that if any of these players can be competitive with any of these other players without using the same or close to the same 14 cards then why can’t everyone else? All the decks above are radically different from each other, even the 2 mono purple decks, so it’s pretty clear to me that there is diversity in the powerful cards the game offers. When you have a diverse top in a game then nothing is OP. If something were so strong that other strategies couldn’t beat then all those players would be playing it, they have access to the cards, why wouldn’t they?

Judgement and Grim Reaper, currently considered as problem childs right now. I beg to differ. Indiscriminate board control is absolutely necessary in keeping cards in check. They are the great balance, very important in making sure nothing gets out of hand. Is Judgement’s and Grim Reapers widely accepted use an issue? I would consider it the cards that keep issues in check. Wide use of these cards is a good thing, direct interaction with your opponents board is healthy for a game, being able to remove an armored RD or armored Snail gives us options to play what we want.

Since there is a good handful of cards that can play against each other in the top of the top I don’t see why we’re calling for nerfs. We should be considering existing options to beat these cards or calling for buffs to bring other cards to the playing field. While there are multiple top contenders there are without question cards that are severely lacking in power. Like Glumbie for example.

Why did I type all this? I’m trying to convert the restrictive mindset the forum and chat have adopted to a constructive, expanding mindset. Instead of restricting the playable card pool let use try to expand through the cards that will never see play!

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerf to Grim Reaper

I’d like to point out that if they raise the cost of Reaper then they would have to increase the cost of the Deathstrike ability. So Reeker would be hit too, and any card in the future that will be made with deathstrike. I think there are solutions that could be put into place with a bit more finesse. Let’s not have another Bagpipes/Gitovahee situation.

Topic: Card Monsters / - ¿Nerf RD ?

I’d just like to hit a quick point here. I have now read in the chat, more than once, that Flame shouldn’t be counted as an answer because it’s too OP. But why wouldn’t you? It’s an answer to a card you claim doesn’t have good answers. And like it or not, you have it. The card exists, I’m not going to discredit it simply because it too is being called OP. If you want to put blinders on when trying to figure out how to deal with a card then that’s your problem. The game has answers, RD is in check if you care to use them.

Topic: Card Monsters / - ¿Nerf RD ?

Anyone can put the time into getting a Judgement or Grim Reaper, just saying. And yes, I believe you should have level 5 epics to take care of level 5 epics. That’s why we’re talking about epics. It only takes 2 hits from any good mage to fall. So maybe you should pick up those acolytes and genis if you don’t have epic ones. Level 5 clam can make short work of a RD forcing it to the ground, Put a MM or Warhammer with it if you don’t have penetrator to break the armor it’s using and get the stun. Sometimes you have to figure out a way to beat a monster rather than Ro-sham-boing. Yes RD will win hit for hit in a vacuum because of flying and shield, but guys! There’s other things you can do to RD than melee damage. Battle Bracers and Reflect are probably at an all time low for play use right now. Take advantage of that!

Topic: Card Monsters / - ¿Nerf RD ?

RD’s hay-day is past. It’s true that it seems to be the largest hurdle for players to tackle trying to break through Dragon live play. There are in game answers to RD, and it’s relatively low attack combined with a high cost of 4, which is top end for live play, makes it deal-able. I think RD and Musc are the most popular monsters in live play right now, but I don’t think either of them are standing on top of the power epics. I think Lethal Lancer is better than Volcanic Wurm for instance. The decreased cost means it can be paired with VE, Crown, BB, what have you, This gives Lancer just as much survivibility and a much more devastating board presence the turn it comes into play. I also think Musculard has never been worse when playing against other top decks. It’s a big beefy, do nothing card.

If RD seems OP to you then I think it’s time to change your deck. There are answers enough to not lose momentum, time, or cards to RD, you just have to use them. This may seem a bit harsh but a card like RD shouldn’t get nerfed because players aren’t willing to change the par to play against it.

Topic: Card Monsters / Red deck

The most common Red/Purple I see by far is RD/Feline Rider/Eagle/Musc/Flame/Sadi. That seems to be the stream line build. I Don’t run Eagle or Sadi myself, opting for running DM over eagle, and I have a generic sac that will eventually be switched out for a Witch when I pull one. There is lots of combinations and cards like Rabbit/Squire/Rifleman f/Blue Dragon/Thumper f/and a choice of purple mages gives you a lot of costomizing options.

Topic: Card Monsters / Poor Conbra

Conbra is a powerful card and very good in live dragon right now. It’s stats don’t look well on paper but neither do Dye’s. A card doesn’t need devastating melee and hp to be usable right now, the fact that it hits stealth fills a niche that’s much needed right now and Conbra will do the job it needs to do without a boost. Ask Shadowhacker on his opinion of the card. The reason you don’t see a lot of these is from the general mindset here that it’s generally not worth the time to put into, but level 5 conbras are making huge impacts on the games they’re in. More so than a lot of other back row epics right now.

Topic: Card Monsters / Nerf Fear or Give Us Epic Courage Cards

Fear right now is an unbalanced ability with a much larger card pool than that of the opposite ability, in this case courage. Thumper f, Grim Reaper, Demon Armor, and Demon Dwarf are all highly used cards, top tier play-ability. Compair this to the card pool you have of courage in the same tier of play-ability; Eagle…. Excalibur and Charger aren’t even close to the radar, neither one of them have the game changing effect necessary to combat fear and make a noticable effect on the board.

I have to agree with acturayl here, if the card pool for courage was a little bit deeper we wouldn’t have an issue with cards like grim reaper. Grim Reaper should probably be unique OP or not, but it irrelevant to fear vs courage right now. Fear and courage are both top tier abilitys and favored by the community, but fear has the cards and courage doesn’t. I look forward to the next set in hopes we’re given a card or two to deepen one of the shallowest card pools in this game.

Topic: Card Monsters / Taking AAs into our own hands

I am officially making a 180 on my stance. At the beginning of the day I was completely for this, even offering opinions and variances on how we can make this work. At the beginning of the day I saw the well intent and excitement put forth by those backing the idea, including from myself. At the beginning of the day I saw possibility and shared hope with those around me. Now I see a negative one large enough to make me change my opinion. I see good players sucked into something they don’t want to do. I see a higher possibility of top players leaving this folly. I see failure in the way this is being handled. This may or may not be all for naught, but I see this doing irreparable damage to the moral in the top players of the game to quench the excitement of half. I don’t suggest you throw this out the window, work is put in here that I see working. Here is a few suggestions that I want to put forward;

  1. Slow Down! There is a lot of ironing out needed if this is going to work, don’t go forward with anything until you know exactly where each and every person is going to go. Allied assaults aren’t going anywhere. You can take your time and do it right.
  1. Take this enthusiasm and numbers to the Card Monster boards, to Lama, to Coolade when you see him. There’s quality and quantity here and it may be enough to make a change. Edgebee works within they’re ability but as we’ve seen they don’t turn a completely deaf ear to the players, namely when there’s such numbers all calling the same thing.
  1. Make sure you’re not losing anyone if you go through with this, I think you’ll be surprised if you hastily go through with this, just how many people won’t be involved in a month.

Anyway, this is just what I’m seeing from the outside looking in.

Topic: Card Monsters / Allied Assaults and how it's stale.

Allied Assaults is getting a change in ladder points in the coming weeks. Consider if this actually fixes anything. In a few months from now will the top of the alliances look any different with this new system? Will we still be running through the motions, “Pick an alliance, do assaults, repeat?” We’re going to look at one creative idea that’s showing lots of encouragement from the players. An idea that has the backing of the community, balances out the Allied Assaults and gives fresh starts more than once. Just because the traditional ladder point system works for Duels doesn’t mean it’s prime to use everywhere in the game. We the players are looking for creative experiences and differences in the separate aspects of the game, here’s what we have in mind;

Allied Assaults are run in seasons. Each lasting long enough to run each alliance once or twice. Achievements are handed out not for miles stones which everything is currently based on but from “achieving” certain conditions much like the challenges in duels, defensive victories , gaining a certain amount of points, obtaining x wins in a row, etc… It opens up personal goals for each and every alliance to achieve throughout the season experience. The Top alliances of each season will receive a prize. Gems or Card Unlocks or a bulk of rep. Then the season is reset, each alliance plays again works for their personal goals and the league goal again. Keeping things fresh, innovative, unique. Absolutely eliminating the “boring factor” I see all over the chat each and every day. This also allows a different route then playing the same alliances over and over again, keeps things competitive on all levels of play in allied assaults.

The Pros
-Gives each and every player something to strive for, the personal achievements will explode the interest in allied assaults.

- Changing things up, playing each alliance once or twice will remove the repetition of being attacked, or attacking, the same alliances day in day out.

- Changing things up #2, Resetting the session every few months will give verity and interest to an ever changing leader board.

- Unique option to the game will eliminate the “boredom factor” that’s sweeping this game like a plague and give a lasting game play.

Cons

- It’s a lot of work. Sorry Devs, a new ladder point system does not fix the problems Allied Assaults currently have. So I ask you, why make a change that doesn’t show results? I know a revamp of the system may take months to build but a revamp of the system is exactly what will keep interest and longevity in the game. We the players love that Edgebee listens to the interests of the players and we only want to make this game successful for us as well as you.

I thank you for your time reading this, I hope it’s considered carefully, and of course, it’s open to discussion, hole filling, and improvement. So Card Monster players, Discuss!

Topic: Card Monsters / I need some deck building advice.

I'm a bit embarrassed to ask but I've hit a deck building wall. The goal is to have a deck that will go 17 of 20 against the elite league decks. And right now I seem to lose against decks revolving around Snail. So I made some changes and lost due to lack of raw power or the wall from Archmage. There has to be some combination of cards that can effectively pull ahead when I play against the AI. I feel the primary problem is the habits of deck building I've adopted through out playing which were very good for the first few months of the game but are falling behind with the true formation of a defined format. This is why I ask you, Card Monster players, for help! Here's a list of the epics and rares I have, assume for deck building that I have access to any common and uncommon in any color. [War] --3 Desert Striker-- 2 Adm Eagle-- War Hammer-- 2 Shiny Bug-- Twilight-- Battle Axe-- Dark Helmet-- 2 Strange Trinket-- 2 Herald's Bow-- Stalagmite Gloves-- 2 White Rabbit-- Red Dragon-- Protector-- [Fortune]-- 3 Ninja Fox-- 3 Crocodime-- 4 Nin'justurtle-- 1 Blu'justurtle-- Crossbow-- Horn of Ages-- Rock Armor-- Dark Helmet-- Hearld's Bow-- Green Dragon-- [Balance]-- Cold Mistress-- 2 Snail Mail-- Escarguard-- Murble-- Charger-- Staff of Power-- Repair Plate-- Rock Armor-- Mystical Amulet-- Herald's Bow-- Stalagmite Gloves-- Molten Core-- 2 Battle Bracers-- Demon Armor-- Bellican-- 3 Crocobear-- Polar Lizard-- 5 Frock-- War Hammer-- Twilight-- Crossbow-- 2 Horn of Ages-- Rock Armor-- Medusa's Shield-- Scorpion-- Mithril Blade-- 3 Acolyte-- Dwarvish Wriath-- Crossbow-- Staff of Power-- 2 Battle Tiara-- Strange Trinket-- 2 Dungeon Master-- Musculard-- Ogre Demon-- Mithril Blade-- Excalibur-- Phoenix Shield-- Demon Armor-- Gleaming Robe-- [Generic]-- Samurai Plate-- Twilight-- Battle Axe-- Staff of Power-- Battle Tiara-- Stalagmite Gloves-- 4 Gitovahee-- 2 Angelic Sound-- Benediction-- 3 Poison Dagger-- Dragon's Tear-- Blight Dagger-- Chaos Stick-- Strapping Gloves-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know I'm asking a lot, I'm sorry, like I said, I really hit a road block with my decks. Feel free to recommend I level card x, but most of the top decks are running around with level 2 epics as level 3 are too expensive to effectively plan. Please keep the epics at level one or two. Let me know if you want a look at the decks I think are the best I can make with these cards. Thank you!

Topic: Card Monsters / Live Play

Ok, so as discussed in the chat I think we’ve come up with a some-what universal answer to the live play problem which includes boosting. The suggestion is that rather than single pairings, which seem to be too easily abused with alts, live play is run on small pods of players that play multiple rounds in a row, paired randomly with other players in the pod. The numbers aren’t set in stone but let’s say the pods are 8 players. You join as you would normally and search for players while you do your normal activities on edgebee, once you hit 8 players you go into 3 consecutive matches, once match one is done you wait for all the matches to be over and go into match 2, same for match 3. Points can be given and taken the same way, gems can be rewarded the same way.

What it fixes
-Use of alt accounts. You can no longer reliably be paired with your alt account so doing so only wastes time.
-Boosting your team-mates, this is a problem for some people and is fixed in the same way as above.
-Being paired against the same person over and over just because you do your live duels at the same time.

Problems
-The time it takes for these to go off is dependent on having 8 players on that would like to play.

Topic: Card Monsters / Live Play

As you know, Live play has been changed to spur cheaters from getting the unlock-able cards too quickly. It has also limited the use of the cards I own. Here are some points on the effects this change has made.

1- This stalls cheaters yes, but I think it has the opposite of the desired effect. The time it takes a cheater to claim it’s 15 wins a day and the time it takes to fairly raise in the ladder points has opened up quite a bit with this update. You have the fair players winning and losing to dragon and you have cheaters that can reach it weeks ahead, giving them the clear path to gaining advantage.

2- It limits the cards you can play with. I like many have spent most of this game focusing on my epics and rares, I grind to make my deck better so I can compete in Dragon. It’s the ultimate testing ground for my decks and the only place I can strive to be the best. Now I have to ignore the cards I have worked months and months on and spend the time running through uncommon leagues, spending the time to get 13k xp on each of my monsters spending the gems on cards that I’m never going to use again. Then working for months raising the 50k to raise my rares up just to get back to playing with the cards I want to play with. Thank you, to the few of you that cheated, you have added months and months onto my grind.

3- Even unranked has been taken out for me, there are players outside of my alliance I like to play casual games, or test my deck with. It’s a shame that because of the actions of a few this too is taken from us.

4- It’s pretty clear that the update stalls cheaters and punishes the fair players. But it doesn’t punish the cheaters, it will just take a week or two instead of days to get the same cards that this is put into place preventing. Where it’ll take the fair players minimum of weeks to get to the same place.

All in all I really just want to play with my cards. I spent cash to obtain some of these and do not like having to put them aside for months to unlock playing them. I have been a fair player, but I can’t see why I would stay a fair player. Like I said all I want to do is play with my cards and if I can do that in days by creating an alt and running up the ladders instead of the months of grinding cards I don’t want to use then there’s a good chance now that I will.

Here are some changes that can be considered.

1- Limit the amount of times a player can play the same account or IP address to 2 a day. If an alt is being used it takes about 20 Live duels to gain 100 points. So let’s count it as 2 days. It’ll take 6 days to get to dragon and 2 days each to unlock the cards. With the limit and access to each league it’ll take 10 days to use an alt to gain 100 points and unlock the next prize. This actually slows the cheaters down by 2 more days and allows fair players to play with their cards.

2- If changing the system back really isn’t an option edgebee is considering. If they are truly bull headed in this matter than just give us back the unranked live duels please. I don’t think this is asking for the moon. I would really just appreciate it.

3- Re-vamp the live duels all together, earning points from tournaments. Say, 20 player pods. There’s always one up, when the pod fills to 20 players the players get randomly matched against each other for say 5 rounds. Points are given out the same way. Just the way the match ups happen are in 20 player pods with random matching between them. This absolutely prevents the use of alt accounts. Once a pod fills and goes another one opens immediately to start filling. Max of 3 tournaments a day is equal to 15 duels. (This is honestly the most cheat proof answer)

If you guys have any other opinions or options to allow the use of all your cards in live duels to be used without the grind please, let me hear them.

A note to Edgebee. This is a plea asking you to let me use my cards again. Don’t punish everyone for the actions of a few. Thank you for considering what’s stated above.

Topic: Card Monsters / Changes to Duels - Opponent Selection

I like the new duels match ups. I’m placed against much harder opponents now. There are not 5 players at max points. Going 20/20 in duels is much harder now and shows diversity in the top 5.

Now for the negative; I feel the Expert level duel is pretty null up in diamond league. It looks to me that the first few places every day(including myself) run up through hard level duels. The difficultly of these are just hard enough that no-one has yet gotten 140 points since the update(which would be 20/20 duels at +4 each plus the bonuses) which shows that you don’t need the expert level duels at all to have some variance in the top 5.

I feel that if the decks improve even more in the higher leagues then the Expert option will become even more useless. I’m all for the added difficulty but so far it seems like it’s so much harder that it’s not worth the risk. There’s just so little chance it will pay off when playing against players that went 17/20 or better at +4 each. You have a better chance of going 17/20 or better yourself at +4 then going 15/20.

Yes it’s supposed to be harder but my point is difficulty offers higher rewards, but there’s a point where the difficulty causes the safe route to almost guarantee the higher rewards.

It’s just not being used by the players on the leader board.
