Topic: Bloons TD 5 / May 4th 2012 daily challenge

By the time you hit round 27, you’ll have 6036 cash minimum, while you need 9505 to get an x/3 village, plus about 1895 for a 3/1 ninja. You can just about afford to lose four leads, but the nine leads that appear two rounds later would still be a problem. So yeah, lots and lots of farming, or some sort of premium upgrade.

Needs some damn clarification.

He’s asking:
When we say a card is OP, is it out of habit, or do we fail to estimate its power correctly/accurately, or do we not have the cards to use it?

I think the second is very much true in some cases, looking at STOVL for example. The first also. The third I think is less common.

I very much disagree with Blindside/Pox/Pulverizer, and Kleave is just bad (Chaos Scab fear only takes two hits to take you out, and yes fear is playable). Like I said before, Sycophant is the key card for Phobos provided you have a little support (Boot Camp, Corilane, Nightcrawler).

Also, I’d rather have Monarch than Radio Officer, but it depends on how much power you have. Tazerok is debatable too, there’s lots of good legendaries: Razogoth Reborn (with Vengar), Hijacker (with heal, opposite to Falcon please), Israfel (next to Plague Burster) etc. I’d rather say that an ability is key, that being Siege, because if you can’t take out Zarak (and RH) you’re in trouble facing lots of top decks.

For HW, there’s two general ways to win: Zander with raiders (QB, MB, Col. Rig, Tox. Corr., Heli, Lionheart even) or Daizon fear (Venorax, Hollows, Blitz). A lot depends on the commander. It doesn’t really matter which you get, provided it works with your cards.

Phobos: Sycophant, Night Crawler, Corilane, pick one of Boot Camp/Jet Enforcer/Aquatic Epicenter. Phobos mix: same, but add Sonar Sentry as 4th.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / Card duel: The ultimate counter card?

Fortifier has the fewest one-card perfect counters (I think), that counter being Israfel. So it might be a good one for this as well. Israfel is a bit weak to disease I guess, but still fairly powerful.

Hephatat is the king of stalling, especially in 1v1 :P.
Also, fun fact, Hijacker is one of the few cards capable of perfectly surging itself (100% chance to kill the attacking card and surviving afterwards). The other one is Locust Swarm.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / There are more rare cards than common or incommon

There’s no point in using commons or uncommons, because the power gap between rare and uncommon is so big, it’s usually easier and better to use some rare which does nearly what you wanted, instead of an uncommon which does exactly what you wanted.

Intercept, 10 health, 4 cd and no survival skills? That’s gonna survive for sure… also siege 2 is a bit low in current meta, see Steadfast Cannon, Hydra, Beetle Bomber, but that Enfeeble 2 may help.
I think that Typhon Vex would work with Radio Officer… since there aren’t many raiders card with good activation skills, apart from obsidian, clamber husk, soulsteel mount, if you prefer it to heracles, and Omega, if someone still uses it. Hydra may “steal” the augment if you choose to use it

obsidian wouldn’t be a bad choice.. 2 CD weaken all 2, strike 3 xD

Not to mention that an augmented hydra takes down a Mobile Base no problem.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / New strike deck

In order to deal with Halcyon the Corrupted and (for example) Lightning Strider, you’ll need interceptors. Mimicing all that strike/rally/enfeeble/siege would be pretty bad. You can also try lots of protect but giving your opponent free strikes is always a bad idea. A single structure will get sieged out fast in a def deck, too. Zarak will also completely ruin you if you don’t draw your hydras in your first hand.

If I understand this properly, this means that Daily Crates, Raids, Quests, Tournaments, Missions, Faction Wars all reward the same generic component? And… Conquest would still be the only place to acquire Conquest Tokens? (And would be the only means to craft Phobos, Purity, and Blight packs?)

This also means the same component is used to craft Awakening pack and Terminus packs?

Well, having just 1 General Component actually sounds too simple.

How about 1 component each for -

  1. Raids and Missions (Energy Based Activities)
  2. Faction Wars (Stamina)
  3. Tourneys and Daily Chance (Skill and Luck)

+ Universal Shards
+ Conquest Tokens

This is simpler, but not too simple?

+1

+1, because I like the idea of there being an incentive to participate in all aspects of the game.

Certainly this. The whole attraction of crafting over gold grinding is that it’s slightly more involved and takes a little planning to optimize.

I definitely think it’s fairer to give everybody 1 shard per type (pack) per day. With the second shard being of a random type.

It’d be nice to have a pack without such a massive difference between rares, power-wise. But, free packs are always good.

Topic: Tyrant: General Tyrant Discussion / [Dev] Question: solution to gold/component problem?

I don’t see a need to make a new currency, simply converting each component to an amount of gold and capping the maximum gold per day you can get would be enough.

Essentially, you propose:
Make everything gold-buyable except cards only buyable with Conquest tokens.
Cap the maximum gold gain per day.

Now, I like making all packs available for gold. But I don’t like the rest.
Crafting adds a bit of flavour to otherwise boring mission grind. It adds excitement to quests. It is the only incentive to raid right now, especially lower raids, with good beacon rates. I like crafting.
Capping gold/day gain to something like 16 hrs of energy worth per day would be ok with me, but I don’t think it’s that necessary.

I don’t like conquest, as I posted before:

Just a tought about Conquest:

Currently, there’s not really an advantage to taking tiles as such, only to holding tiles. If you hold lots of tiles, it becomes easier to hold them because of upgrades, where factions new to the map are basically powerless. For the top factions, it’s basically good strategy to do nothing at all, and that’s a shame.

So what if you got Conquest tokens for taking a tile? Take a tile, get 5+ tokens, and you’re much closer to getting that crucial health upgrade.
If the number of tokens gained increases with the number of tiles your target faction holds, there will be an incentive to attack large (= powerful) factions which are now mostly resting.

For example, a victory might get you 5 tokens, plus one per two tiles that your opponent holds, minus one per four tiles or so that you hold. That way, a 12-tile faction defeating another 12-tile faction would gain 8 tokens, a 20-tile faction defeating another would gain 10, a 32-tile faction defeating another would gain 13. A definite advantage to holding tiles, but also: a new zero-tile faction would gain 11, 15 and 21 tokens respectively for defeating those factions.^

There might be some issues with trading wins and also with new factions with high-power players forming only to take tiles from powerful factions. But the latter at least would shake things up a little – maybe even make a strategy as ‘guerilla’ faction viable.

^Reward costs may need rebalancing.

So yeah. Instead of changing the currency, just change some of the card costs, I think 10-20k for a rare, 30-40k for a unique and 80-100k for a legendary card is fair, provided they are decent cards (not Destructive Ram for example). Any more and the cost just becomes meaningless. The cost is already arbitrary, unrelated to the difficulty of producing the item. The cost to produce a copy of a certain card is of course zero.

Same deal with packs, HW at 60k is very high considering cards of equal quality would cost maybe 40k in the Rewards section. For example, take 20k for a rare raid reward (pod, rhino, whatever), 100k for a legendary (Hephy), 5k for an uncommon (ogre), 150 gold for a common (impulse walker) gives you:
.14 * 100k
.86 * 20k
2 * 5k
3 * 150g
Total of 41650 gold. Plus you get the chance at absolutely horrible rares like Egor and Nemesis and Pulsifier and Volatile Wrecker and… you get the idea.

Conclusion is that HW is overpriced compared to the actual good cards. And Hygeia. And a massive number of other cards.

Gold is only there to form a barrier to prevent people from completing the game too quickly. It’s not an economic item and there should be no inflation. Just setting the price for each category of card and never changing that would be best, in my opinion.
