Hey guy’s, I uploaded my game earlier today, and everything was working great. Later I updated it to fix a glitch. Now when I upload the new version, everything works fine UNTIL… I hit the publish button, then my music stops working. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried to re-upload it and I got the same problem.

If anyone could help asap that would be great, seeing as how my game is now up with no music, and I don’t want to get bad ratings for it.

Kongregate should put a mute button on every games page right next to the cinematic mode button. That way developers wouldn’t have to program a mute button for every game that they make.

Topic: Game Programming / Questions about classes

Hey, everybody, I just had a couple of questions about classes that I was wondering if I could get some help with.

First off I have an object in my scene, that has a class with some script in it. Its just your basic movement script. It doesn’t have any errors or warnings when its compiled, but for some reason nothings working when I play it just sits there. So, my question is do I need to call the script in the timeline some way, or tell it to activate?

My second question is about public/private variables. I get that a public variable can be accessed from different scripts, and a private can’t. My question is why not just make all of the variables public, even if they dont get accessed why not leave the door open just in case?

Nevermind, I figured it out. When I uploaded it I didn’t upload the sound files to Kongregate because I thought they were already in the swf. So I put them all in a zip file and uploaded that with my game and viola. It also fixed my collision issue too, because a sound was being called on collision.

It is still pretty laggy though so Im gonna go in and clean up some of the code before I publish it.

Thanks for your help stickman. I did have one error when I played it outside flash, but I removed it and Im still having problems.

Now when I play it off of my desktop it runs just fine, no problems at all. But when I run it on Kongregate still having the exact same problems with the audio and collision.

Hey everybody, Im trying to publish my game and everything works perfectly when its previewed. But when I export or publish it 3 things happen.

1. Game plays with no audio whatsoever.

2.Collisions with my powerup are no longer working.

3. Game gets super laggy.

Also Im not sure if its using my preloader or not.

Does anyone know what Im doing wrong, or a way to publish the swf so it acts more like the preview?

Developers should be able to check the comments and ratings of their games, without actually having to go to the game.
It makes it hard to track how many plays I have when every time I want to check the comments or ratings it adds another play.
Also some way to see how many times your games been rated would be nice.

Hey everyone, this problem is probably a very simple one. Whenever my game ends and I start a new one, I have to reclick on the game screen, or my controls dont work. Like when you play a flash game and click off screen then you have to reclick the game to continue.

Does anyone know how I could get it to focus once it starts the game?

I know alot of the stuff should have been done differently, but Im just worried about getting the menu system working right now. Please dont make fun of me when you see my jerryrigged file:)

Also let me know if it works properly for you guys. I didnt know if I had to upload all of the classes as well as the file.

No, Even if it was the code automatically sets it to the middle of the screen once the game begins.
I was wondering though, if you dont use the timeline how would you go about setting up your menus?

There is no health variable to deal with yet, every time the player gets hit he moves back a bit and if the players x is less than zero it goes to the loss screen. So thats not it.

I tried the _root, no go it gave me an undefined property error. I would post the code but its all controlled by like 5 different timelines, so that would be kind of impractical. Its my first game with Action Script so its not the most organized file in the world. Anyway Im pretty sure Its not so much the code but the way Im using it. Especially since its working without the loss screen.

Well, I have a play button on the 3rd frame of my main timeline, when its clicked it uses the dispatch event command to trigger the start game function on my actions layer. The start game function then uses the this.gotoAndStop command(or at least its supposed to) I know this function is being called because I added a trace() command right after the this.gotoAndStop, and its triggering when the button is pressed.

Im not getting any errors, its just not triggering. I thought it was because my actions layer doesnt go to the third frame but I changed that and it still doesnt work. If I change it to go straight to the menu it works but then I dont get a loss screen.

Hey everyone, I have set my main timeline like this.

On frame 1 I have the game playing.
On frame 2 I have the loss screen.
On frame 3 I have the main menu.

The gotoAndStop command works fine when switching from the game to the loss screen and from there to the main menu but it wont switch back to the game.

Also I know that the function is getting called because I already added the trace command, and its showing up in the output fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Captain Capslock here! you were right about changing this.x and about not needing the variables. That worked completely.

Also just fyi I named player in all caps because the movieclips name was player so I had to change the instance name to something else, hence PLAYER. But I like my new title though:)
