Add a Spark of Legend in-game, then fill the new slot with another one via modding. Return to the game and fill the new empty slot with a cheap enchantment, then mod that to another Spark of Legend. Repeat until you’ve got enough slots full with Sparks of Legend, then change all of them to enchantments of your choice. (E.g. for criticals: one Shard of Dilaera gives 3% CritHit chance, so to get 100+%, you’ll need at least 34 slots.)

If you need enchantment IDs, consumable IDs and item type codes, I’ve just posted them in tables over here.

Although this is a great game, I think the word ‘epic’ is an overstatement for gear that has only slightly better stats, an extra ability or perhaps a couple extra sockets.

So I’ve made some interesting modifications to existing epic gear. A Black Flag of Dilarea got 100%+ Crit-Hit chance and 800%+ Crit-Hit damage, while a Doomwarden got 100% magical protection and 100% starting action, along with other misc. effects and prefixes/suffixes on both.

My blog has some screenshots about the modding process. Although the techniques are not possible in the normal course of the game, the whole thing RPs nicely into the universe of Chronicles. I call the method ‘Godforge’, and the items are a gift from Dilarea, the deity of death in this game. I say they’re pretty effective. :-)

Do you have any other ideas of what would make truly epic gear in this game?

Only one. As soon as you use it, you’ll be affected by a status effect that won’t let you consume another one until you level up again – regardless of whether you’ve used tonics on previous levels or not.

I guess this still stands, but I’m wondering if anyone from here is still working on this? I’ve added a couple things recently, but that’s been pretty much the only activity for the last couple days. There is still too much uncovered info for the wiki to die down so soon. :)
