Topic: Technical Support / Where is the save file for GLEAN?

THANK YOU! That’s a very easy location to find (I looked & it is indeed right there), but I never would have recognized it by file name alone.
That method of playing & then searching for files recently changed of that type is a great idea; I was trying to think of a way I could find it by playing it on a computer it hadn’t been played on before then searching for a file that wasn’t there before, but couldn’t think how that would work. My brain could only come up with so many methods. I’ll try to remember that in the future for searching for save files of other games.

[Problem solved.]

Topic: Technical Support / Where is the save file for GLEAN?

I’ve been playing Glean (http://www.kongregate.com/games/okaybmd/glean?acomplete=glean) for a while on my laptop, and I want to start playing it on my desktop computer instead, but not all the way from the beginning.

I know where most Kongregate save game files are stored on my hard drive, along with other flash-object-thingies. I even backup my savegame folders frequently. But I just went to check for the Glean save file, and I couldn’t find it. I went to the overall folder that firefox flash files are stored to (with a seemingly random string of 8 letters/numbers) and typed “glean” in the search bar, but nothing was found. I assume the save file has a different name than the game? Can anyone tell me the file name so that I can search for it?

I also checked if the game just saves online by opening it on my desktop (where I’ve never played it before) & selecting “continue” from the main menu, but it just brought me to the start of a new game.

(BTW I know that the exact folder paths to these files can be different from one computer to the next, especially since my laptop is Windows 8 but my desktop is Windows 7. But if I can locate the correct folder location on each computer, then I can simply copy the save file from one computer into the appropriate folder on the other. And I’d only need to know it from a certain point, such as if it’s within “#SharedObjects\[random 8 characters]\assets.kongregate.com\” then what matters is “assets.kongregate.com” & whatever’s in that.)

Topic: Technical Support / 2 games got deleted & can't restore from my backup

Okay, good news, I finally got it fixed.
I deleted the files, then copy/pasted the backup files in their place, and was able to load my saves.
Apparently deleting the new files makes all the difference; pasting in copies of the original files & overwriting the new files (like I originally did) doesn’t cut it. Gotta delete THEN replace.

Topic: General Gaming / Battalion Commander - mission help

Normal mode in this one is a bit over 1500 meters (like 1563, or so).

I just now got a quest to "Run 1000 meters with single leader at once.” Same quest, but twice as difficult. And IMHO, nearly impossible.
The car ride at the start passes a few hundred meters on its own, even when I try to crash the car ASAP. And it can take a LOOOONG time to kill off my starting troops, and a lot more time for every troop I inadvertently pick (which I think includes any that were in cages I ran over in the car, meaning I can start out with a lot of troops).
I’ve been trying the razor-wire method that worked for me before… it’s not working now. Every time I try to brush up against the edge of a razor-wire building, my leader takes a lot of damage but my troops take none.

I’m right back to the problem I started this thread with :(

Topic: Technical Support / 2 games got deleted & can't restore from my backup

I think it’ll be easier to just SHOW you where they are rather than trying to describe their location. So I made these screenshots just now.

This is the “real” location, with the folders/subfolders created by the games themselves (we’ll call it “Location A”): https://dl.dropbox.com/s/lwx57bpssc0ubmn/PapagamelocationA.jpg

This is the backup location (we’ll call it “Location B”): https://dl.dropbox.com/s/hybt9qvfdh35rep/PapagamelocationB.jpg
“Game On” is a custom folder I made on my desktop.

Even before I made this post, both locations contained the file “Jacksmith_1.sol” as well as the file “papaswingeria_1.sol”. The file path to both locations is the same, just counting from the “37YETGG3” folder onward. The last time I backed up my browser games was in December, so the files in Location B should be up-to-date to then. Even if I get them restored I’ll lose any progress from the last month, but that’s a small price to pay compared to losing ALL progress.

I copied the 2 files (one for Jacksmith, one for Papa’s Wingeria) from location B, and pasted them into Location A, overwriting the files that were there already.
But when I open one of the games, it still looks like this: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/p3dlccjbe9sf4x1/wingeriaempty.jpg

FlyingCat, you’re right! I just assumed that all the games would have their own sub-folders with all them 4-digit numbers, but fortunately I backup the whole chat.kongregate.com folder with all its contents, so there is a Jacksmith_1.sol as well as a papaswingeria_1.sol in there.
…Unfortunately, restoring from those backups doesn’t seem to have worked :(
I copied the backup versions of the files & pasted them into the real folder (had to select “copy & replace” because apparently new files of the same name were created last night when I tried to open the games), but then when I opened the game, my save still wasn’t showing up. This applies to both games.

What did I do wrong?

Topic: Technical Support / 2 games got deleted & can't restore from my backup

Today I discovered my saves from 2 specific games have been erased: Jacksmith (http://www.kongregate.com/games/FliplineStudios/jacksmith), and Pappa’s Wingeria (http://www.kongregate.com/games/FliplineStudios/papas-wingeria). They’re both from the Papa Louie Arcade! game franchise, but I also have saves from 2 other Papa Louie games that weren’t erased; it was just these 2.
I’m assuming it happened because yesterday I manually deleted the last week of browser-history from Firefox (I learned YEARS ago to never ever clear my cookies or cache or else I’ll lose my browser savegames, but I never thought it would happen from selectively deleting browsing history!)

I have backups of all the folders that have all the files for my browser-flash-savegames, and I’ve been able to restore games from these backups after they’ve been erased in the past. But for these games today, it just isn’t working.
I went to the folder where the Jacksmith save is stored (#SharedObjects/37YETGG3/chat.kongregate.com/gamez/(####)/(###)/live/jacksmith.swf), and there is only one file in it called “playtomic.sol”. I checked my backup folders & that’s the same only file in there, so apparently the file itself didn’t get erased when I was clearing history. Still, to try to restore my save, I copied that file from the backup folder & replaced the one in the real folder with it. But when I open Jacksmith again, there are still no saves there for me to load.
I notice that these Papa Louie games have a big handy button below the save slots that leads to info on how to restore a save from backup, directly in the game. I’ve never noticed it before. I tried it (it opened up an “Open” windows-explorer window… you know the thing, where you find & select a file to open with a program), but when I navigated through the folders & into that “jacksmith.swf” folder, there was nothing to select. It wouldn’t recognize the .sol file. Apparently that program only recognizes files that are of “Papa backup file” format, which means files that you make from within the game (there’s a tiny option under in each used save-slot called “Save a backup”, & I also never knew about this until now).

Is it possible to backup & restore saves from these particular games the regular way, by saving copies of the files & folders on your computer? Or are these games different from all other browser flash games in that they can only be backed up by using the in-game option? If it is possible to do it the traditional way, then what am I doing wrong? What file should I be looking for in my backup folders, & what folder does it go into?

I’d REALLY REALLY HATE to completely lose my progress, because I have invested SOOOOOOOOO MUUUUUUUUCHHHHH time into these games. Papa Louie games are always LOOOOOOOONG-term games, so keeping backups is more essential than it is for most games, but if they can’t be done like normal & I’ve lost a year or 2 of work because of that, then I refused to ever play another game in this immense series (unless needed for a Kong quest or BotD).

Gremlion, THANK YOU! You’re right about the razor wire, it worked! I wouldn’t have thought to try that out on my own. I’ve got the mission done, and now maybe I can be able to finish them all. Thanks to you I’m back in the game :D

Ok, so the mission is impossible to complete because it was poorly designed. Roger that. From here on out I’ll only be working on 2 missions at a time, and consider the game to be completed if I get 99/100 missions done (or less, if I encounter any other impossible missions).

Ok I made a duplicate of this post in the General Gamings forum like rajesh1999 suggested. So Admins, feel free to delete this post if you think it relevant. Sorry about the mix-up there.

Topic: General Gaming / Battalion Commander - mission help

I’m playing Battalion Commander (the first one). http://www.kongregate.com/games/IriySoft/battalion-commander

I’m trying to do all the missions. So far I’ve got 48 of them complete, almost halfway done.
I have a mission now that says to “Run 500 meters with single leader at once.”
What does this mean? How is this mission done?

I assume, based on the brief description alone, that it means I’m supposed to run for 500 consecutive meters in a level, with only my leader, without any troops with him. But I’m at max lvl & have every upgrade, including the ones that make me automatically start every run with a couple troops following me. I can try to avoid picking up more troops as I go, but how on earth can I get rid of the ones I start out with?
I know the game counts them in regards to this mission because after getting the mission I did 2 short runs w/out picking up any more troops, & after that it shows the most distance I’ve gotten is 0 (zero progress towards quest, aka 0 meters ran w/ single leader). I tried to get my following troops killed but it’s pretty much impossible. I can sometimes get them to take hits from bullets (even tank shells) but it’s never enough to kill them & they regenerate their health pretty fast. I try to aim them to get hit by bombs from enemy air raids, but they seem to be invincible to those bombs which can so easily kill my leader (thus giving me game over). And any time a car touches us from any angle, the leader takes 100% of the damage dealt. I’m literally the tank-character for my team while also being the weakest link.

Is this mission incompletable? Or am I totally missing the goal of it? Someone give me some hints here, please.

Thanks. I don’t know my way around the forums very well; I wasn’t even sure how to get to whatever part of the forums this is.

Yay! Thank you AkodoMakama, that was a huge help! I’d give you points for that answer, if this forum had any sort of points system.

Same thing happened to me just now. And all of the most recent comments in the game from other Kongregate users are saying the same thing. It seems like some problem has happened with the game today which wiped a LOT of players’ saves (including all money & ranks earned)… maybe even everyone’s!

And it’s not just that all our progress got erased; I tried to click on the treasure chest to collect my daily bonus, and it didn’t work. It didn’t open to give me any money. This is actually what led me to notice that my accumulated money & ranks were gone. Maybe game is “just broken” right now?

Topic: General Gaming / How do you Bounce in "Learn to Fly 2"

I’m playing Learn to Fly 2, trying to get the medals & win the challenges, but I’m totally stuck at the ones that require bouncing. According to my stats I’ve had 0 bounces so far, and I’ve hit the ground in a variety of ways with a variety of equipment.

I found this one answer on Yahoo!Answers when I googled it:
“You have to purchase the ‘random’ upgrade. Once you have that build up lots of speed and crash your plane flat, as if you failed to deploy landing gear. You plane will turn into something different and bounce along the ground.”

Does anyone know what the writer of this answer meant by “the ‘random’ upgrade”? They didn’t explain & I can’t ask them for more details.
I do have the Brick, btw, not sure if that’s what they mean…
