Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Kongai] If you could equip any item on any character, what would you equip to who?

Chance to hit without crit is .6 × .5 = .3 or 30% nub

50 % chance to hit critically

40 % chance to miss

10 % chance to hit (without crit)

with crane it’s:

50 % chance to hit critical

50 % chance to hit (without crit)

so it would just increase the number of “normal” hits

EDIT: nvm, twinge was faster xD

Wrong, Chance to hit (without crit) is NOT 10% it’s 60% (hit) times(x) 50% (no crit) which equals 30% nubbito.

so it would just increase the number of “normal” hits

EDIT: nvm, twinge was faster xD

Simple. Kongai should have special events for certain days. One of the special events, as you can guess, should be where all Kongai females are topless. What do you guise think?

Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No.

The characters considered the strongest in the game even now don’t exceed 40% usage. If they’re so clearly good and always better, why aren’t ValkAnex, UbieMask, CC, and JujuFeather around 80-90% usage instead of 40/30/30/20?

Furthermore, if we do it right, every character will have some characters they are at least moderately bad against, moreso than we have now. While I want to avoid heavily one-sided matchups, somewhat favorable ones are good, and also serve to rotate the meta. If everyone is using A, and B beats A, then B is also viable. And eventually C, which beats B, becomes viable, even though A beats C. Thus, even if a heavy meta does evolve – it certainly will to some extent, but I think we can prevent it from going to the extent you expect as I’ve explained above – it should at worst be a shifting meta, and will remain fresh in its own way.

Question! Where do you get your facts and statistics from, Twinge? Wikipedia?

Keep in mind that there is NO BEST TOP TIER DECK. What comes around goes around. If an ultimate top tier deck were to exist, everyone would use it, however, that is apparently not coherent with given results in my countless matches. Even the high ranked players tend to switch it up a bit. Why? Simply because it works and it’s more fun compared to using the same old Ubuntu, Anex, and CC or the Juju, Anex, CC deck. The creator of this card-based game wrote a description for his game saying it’s similar to Rock, paper, scissor. No matter how good a deck can be there always some other deck that can beat it, that’s what makes this game so appealing and interesting. I mean there’s all sorts of combos you can use to beat the typical “Top Tier Deck”. Playing with Onimaru, MLM, and something like Andro or Rumiko has a really high chance of beating the Ubuntu, Anex, and CC deck. It all just depends what deck you use and which deck you are being matched with, that’s why Kongai does not limit you to only creating one deck to use, instead when you are prompted to play against someone you have multiple decks that you’ve created to select from. People choose different decks depending on the Level and Skill Rank of their opponents because they feel their special, or oddly created deck can stand against the typical “Top Tier Deck”. The outcome of the match is no different from just getting lucky (both being able to LUCKILY guess what your opponent is going to do AND, of course, just being lucky sometimes with proc’s and poisons). So adding a new group of cards into the gameplay is, indeed, favorable and can spice up the competition.

Twinge: Firstly, you continually try to counter the influence of tiers on the game by saying that you can take almost any card and win with it. And that’s perfectly true, but it’s also missing the point. You don’t get rewarded for using cards that are almost, but not quite as good as Anex + Valk or Juju + feather. There’s no reason other than ‘for the lulz’ to use anything but the best combinations, if you have them. Even if the best combinations are only slightly better than the second-best combinations, it doesn’t matter. Over the long haul, players will always use the most efficient tools available for winning unless you provide motivation to do otherwise.

For example, you see tons of Mutilate-spec rogues in World of Warcraft’s arena system. You don’t see nearly as many Shadowstep-spec rogues, even though it’s not a completely worthless spec, because Mutilate is just plain better. And it doesn’t matter if ‘better’ is a huge amount or a tiny amount because no incentives for taking second-best are offered, so you might as well maximize your winning potential.

More cards doesn’t mean more diversity without providing incentives for diverse play. More cards just means that people will settle on a new top tier, probably not too different from the one we have now, and continue to run the best available combos. Second-best can be a bare centimeter away from the top, and still, most people will prefer the top, because the game rewards for wins and doesn’t care how you get them.

I will admit that I am greatly looking forward to the balance changes. The Valk nerf and Jade Figurine buff will be nice. But balance changes in the cards themselves fail to address the flaws in the overall reward structure of the game.

5v5 is a ‘degenerate’ format, sure. I would argue that 3v3 isn’t much better, but that’s a matter of splitting hairs. But 5v5 was still reasonably popular despite its flaws when it was ladder. Its popularity when taken off ladder whooshed down, because players like being rewarded.

I will agree with you on the community split issue. You’re perfectly right to bring it up as a drawback of multiple ladders. But I would argue that stagnant gameplay where you see the same cards over and over again is far, far worse. If you provide real incentives for people to play with less than optimal cards, so that the entire available pool really takes place in the average gaming session, then you’ll start to see more people coming in. Far more than you’d lose by having a multiple ladders. Maybe you can think of ways to do that without making more ladders, which would be great (I wonder if there is a limit to the amount of badges a game can get…), but right now a mutual-random ladder is looking pretty good to me.

Agree. Let’s listen to the bright one, Twinge.

Here’s what I think the average of the tier lists for experienced players would be (in other words, not my personal list).

High:

Juju

Anex

Ubuntu

CC

Yoshiro

Rumiko

Mid-high

Higashi

VV

Tafari

Mid

Amaya

Ashi

Popo

Onimaru

Zina(?)

Mid-low

Cain

Andromeda

Ambrosia

MLM

Low

Phoebe

Helene (No she’s not garbage :P)

I think Phoebe is WAY not bottommost tier. I’d place her Mid High. She’s really useful against many High tier characters you listed.

The middle character seems to be a misfit in the whole game of Kongai because the all female characters (in the game) have well developed breasts. This female pirate seems to be lacking a bulk of meat in the area where it counts. Removing some excessive clothing and adding bigger sized breasts would greatly enhance the popularity of this game. No Doubt.
