Topic: Collaborations / TCG idea looking for partners

Curious: There are ways this prevent this ie. Must be level x to trade or only allow players to trade with other players of similar level range( 25-30 ) or certain cards require levels etc.

Topic: Collaborations / Looking for Unity/Flash Prog.

This has probably been said already but I really doubt this game will ever be made.
And like others said, in 7 years, you probably could’ve learned a programming language, or at least learned how to draw or make 3d models.
You seem to think your idea is very unique, but take a look at the game Dead Frontier 3d:
Multiplayer zombie horror survival game.
Many classes, such as
Soldier
Police
Engineer/Mechanic
Doctor
Professor
Student
Handy-Man
Civilian
.
All of these come with pros and cons.
All characters start with randomized stats.
Each class earns EXP at a different rate.
The base of the game Is to struggle your way to the other side of town, and a few miles out to a Militant base which Is under-control.
The game includes surviving zombies as you try to improve your gear while travelling to the other side of town.
Of course there is a barricading system.
You can even create body armor, weapons, Items and more (Thanks to the engineer/mechanic, a-lot of things are possible).
Instead of sleeping and resting, the game uses hunger.
While exploring, you and your team can OPT to choose a new building for survival. Maybe this one Is 10 stories high, maybe It has a nice basement.. Maybe It’s already well built (Some are wooden, much like the older homes, some are concrete/brick with steel/brick st abilities. Who knows!
Premium content is available.
Items. Including armor, guns, knives, blades, bladed armors, explosives.
The goal again, make It across the city.
Oh and there is PvP.

Do you see wher I am getting at?
Please tell me how your idea is unique when a game already exists with most of its “unique” concepts and ideas.
Because this is an idea, and everyone can come up with those. Yes, even programmers and artists.

Topic: Game Design / Story-telling style

Just wanting your opinion here, would well-done comic book style “cinematics” be better than little animations with medium-quality voice acting?

What I mean by comic book style is that the cinematics in a game would be polished comic book “template”, not the actual drawing style.

Anyways some of my ideas include a RPG game where you gain exp for individual stats not overall for example you cast a spell you gain intellect exp you attack with a sword you gain strength exp i made a more complex system but that’s the basics of it

This kind of reminds me of DarkFall where you earn experience for each spell and each kind of weapon, making you better with these as you level them, unlocking different abilities.

Meh I don’t mind this guy bumping his thread, it’s an effective way to get traffic and it’s still better than creating a new thread each time.

Topic: Game Design / You're an idea guy? Come here!

Hey there, this thread is more or less directed at idea guys, who have great ideas, but lack the skills to create a flash game.

I’m currently trying to find some game ideas while trying to improve my art and programming skills. Don’t get me wrong, I have some original ideas but I’d like to read differents things. Feel free to drop some interesting (or not!) ideas for a flash game. Nothing multiplayer though.
Note that if I do take your idea you will not earn a penny or a share of ad revenue. But you will have a place in the credits!

PS: Don’t direct me to the three hundred mechanics, I have already read those.

Topic: Collaborations / Game needs free artist

Just saying, people don’t really like working on someone else’s game for free. Especially if it’s art or prgramming. Why not offer some share of your ad revenue if it’s possible? It would seem more attractive.
Just my two cents.

Start by very simple projects to understand the basics and read a. lot. of. tutorials.

Just read a book about as3, it gets easier over time.
I recommend reading Essential ActionScript 3.0, or just reading basic as3 tutorials.

That you should refer to newBtn instead of attack1_button.

I’m not really sure if that would work, I recommend adding buttons to stage dynamically. You can try and see if it works.

Hmmm I’m not really sure if that’s what you’re looking for buttt you can try this:
Give an instance name to your symbol/movieclip by exporting it for actionscript (Properties)

In the document class:
var newBtn:MovieClip = new instanceNameYouWrote;

newBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
newBtn.x = ….
newBtn.y = ….
stage.addChild(newBtn);
function onClick(event:MouseEvent):void{
//code
}

Does that make any sense to you?

Wow I was not expecting this at all. Seeing from the screenshots this game looks pretty darn awesome, especially the dual-wield mechanics.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Jzyehoshua: I came to agree that there is less place for a good plot in a platform game.
Concerning question 2, I dislike item-breaking mechanics. I think the indirect effect Drakim described is what I am looking for.

Do you guys have any more ideas of inderect effects?

Topic: Game Design / Design Dilemna.

Hello everybody.

I thought making this thread would be a great first post.
I’m here to request some feedback on gameplay mechanics of a flash game I am currently designing.

To keep things simple, I will list all my questions here, and feel free to give me your opinion on these subjects.

The game I am designing is an actionish RPG game, a little similar to the early Legend of Zelda games.

Question 1: Would a action rpg game be more enjoyable with a top-down perspective (Early zelda game-like) or as a platformer?

While I think Top down perspective would add some depth to the visuals of the game, I also feel that the gameplay mechanics would be better as a platformer, (ie. better physics(Shooting arrows with gravity), jumping, etc.).

So what would be the best, Top-Down or Platform?

Question 2: What would be a good way to prevent a player from using the same weapon again and again? (aka promoting the use of all weapons)

I think that the designers of LOZ: ocarina of time did a great job on this subject. In exemple, limiting the number of arrows you could carry prevented you from using only the bow.

I was thinking of maybe adding a bit of utility on each weapon?

What are effective(but fun!) ways of limiting the usage of say: Bows, Swords and spells?
__________________________________________________________________

I have some more questions, but I am tired right now and will write them after a good night of sleep!

TL:DR – 1: Action RPG, TOP-DOWN view or Platformer?
2: Ways to promote the uses of more than one weapon?
