Many of you are probably wondering why the promised Item Forge expansion & other planned fixes have not yet been finished and/or why I’ve been hiding from the chat. The answer is that I guess I’ve experienced something like burnout and have felt compelled to rest much over the past few days. Being ashamed of my lack of progress then is what keeps me away from the chat …

Please be assured I’ve neither forgotten nor abandoned the project! I’m still tracking bug reports, gameplay & balance issues, etc, etc, and will surely get back in the swing of things when my health permits …

You’re right. Sorry – fixed one problem and created a bigger one. And didn’t really even fix the first problem. It will be reworked again…

Hmmmm this patch didn’t involve any changes to the AI, but I will look into the issue.

@D34d1yD34d1y … sorry, it has been brought to my attention that I should have provided some warning before breaking the builds that were heavily dodge-oriented. I hope you will forgive my inexperience and let me know if there’s anything I can do to bring you back to Netherhaven!

2014.04.23A – Big balance changes, guys. Pay attention.

1. F*** DODGE.
- Dodge Chance from attributes reduced to Pe/4 + De/7 + Ma/16
- Blurred Form dodge bonus reduced to 1.5% per level
- Sleek/Defense item dodge bonuses reduced to 1%
- Banner of Avoidance bonuses reduced to 5/15/25%

2. SUMMONS
- MP cost changed to 25% of Max MP plus 15% per level of the summoned unit
- Duration reduced to 40 + Level*2 (seconds)
- Dwarf/Elf/Faerie attributes now scale with their level as well as the summoner’s Learning attribute. At high levels they will be significantly more powerful than before.

- Mystic Focus potency changed to 50 + Level*(Wi/5) (starts out higher but scales less)

- Speed reduced to 5 + De/5 + St/10 + Wi/30 + Ma/40 (nerfed the contribution from Willpower)

- Mortal Strike AP cost increased to 90 – Level/6

- Banners of Speed/MG reduced to 5/10/15%

- Summon Option damage increased to 30 + Level*( Le/10 + Ma/10 )
- additionally, Options now sacrifice themselves to absorb Scared/Enraged/Stunned conditions

We are constantly gathering feedback from you guys and making lists (and lists and lists and lists) of changes to make and features to add. Here I’ll post the bigger things we’ve decided to move on:

1. Item Forge
Here you’ll be able to custom craft items with exactly the prefixes & suffixes you want. However there will be a large gem cost involved, and even at that the quality of the item will depend on a dice check … you could of course improve your luck by tossing a few Kreds into the machine …

2. PvP Currency (want to help us name it?)
You’ll get a small amount for losing and a large amount for winning, and for starters it will be redeemable for …

3. PvP Gear Rewards
Think CC mitigation.

4. Solo PvP Arena
Having trouble making it onto the leaderboard in 3v3? Try 1v1! We expect balance issues …

5. Co-op PvP Arena
Team up with your friends! Against your friends!

6. Bonus PvE Content
New enemies, extra levels, special challenges, etc…

- fixed bug preventing weapon-specific suffixes (fire, ice, thunder, destruction, penetration) from being randomly generated

- AI will no longer use Amor Break on enemies whose armor is already broken (at all)

- AI will no longer attempt CC abilities on immune targets

- Reflect Magic has been changed to a passive reflection chance (1% per level)

Now that more people are beating the game, it’s come to our attention that the final boss fight may be a bit lackluster – after all it’s really just a very powerful unit that does nothing that other units don’t do.

We’d like to remake the thing with a little more pizazz, so as a first step I thought we could get some ideas from you guys. What would you like to see?

Thanks for the great feedback, everyone. We’ve done a lot of tweaking to the game since posting this, but at this point we should probably consider all the helpful-yet-unaddressed suggestions we’ve had (and are still getting) as fuel for the sequel. This cat’s out of the bag, so to speak – but we’ve learned so much though this process, and we have you, the players, to thank for that! So, thanks!

Hi everybody,

When we first uploaded The Appalese Wall here, the game was decidedly lacking polish – there were a couple of show-stopping bugs, some essential features missing (notably, the ability to replay levels to grind for honor), and the Hero AI was rugged. We deserved the 3.2ish rating we ended up with from the first 2-3,000 plays, and the game deservedly slipped through the cracks.

Then our team did what I believe to be a fine job pulling the game up by its bootstraps – we fixed the bugs, we honed the AI, and we added (nearly) all the features you, the players, were asking for:

- Levels can now be replayed for Keystones & Honor
- Keystones from dead heroes are now returned to the player
- Waves 8-12 have been edited to smooth out the difficulty curve

The player rating has been on the rise ever since, but we still need to be delivered from obscurity!

We would be greatly honored to have a second chance from those of you who have played the game already…

And, for those of you who never found the game, now’s your chance to experience a truly original RPG Defense game, combining deep strategy with intense tactical combat!
