Topic: The Arts / SOTW Revolution - Competition SOTW #1

1st. xXScrapheadXx – I love this because it’s really original with the pixel style. I think you could’ve done something else with the background to give it a better sense of depth (making it look less flat), like perhaps extending the flames back at further distances.

2nd. GraphicDesignC – In relation to the theme, I really like this tag as it ‘pops out’. I also like how the effects compliment the sense of depth. I feel this tag is a bit too monotone, and could be complimented with some other colours. The effects look a little bit messy, although that could be due to the overall tag being a bit blurry/LQ. I also think it’d look better without the text as it’s distracting and unbalances the composition.

3rd. Ozzy123 – A nice tag with some decent smudging effects. I think you could’ve done something more with the background to make it look less flat, and also added some smudging above the render (like near the sheild) to give it better depth. Some other effects other than smudging might have made the tag a bit more exciting. It also looks a bit LQ too.

Well done to everyone that entered, I’m glad SOTW is getting back up and running again. :)

Topic: Off-topic / (experimental) Dubstep Collaboration

I’m looking to do a collaboration for a dubstep song.
Just beacuse I feel 2 artists ideas would make some pretty intense wacky sounds, as compared to 1.
So if you’re interested, just reply to this topic/PM me with some examples of your work as well.

So they recon if Antartica melted, sea levels would rise 200 feet. Surely that’d cause significant weight change?

- Ice caps melt.
- Water distributes throughout all the seas and oceans on earth.
- Add more weight on some areas of the earth.
- Puts more pressure on the tectonic plates.
- Causes earthquakes/natural disasters and such.

Thoughts?

Topic: The Arts / Critique-a-Week // GO WILD! // Week Two

Eh, flow is a contraversial matter when critiquing art. I’m seen some magnificent pieces in my time that lack the technical definition of ‘flow’. And honestly if they’d try to incorperate it, it would’ve ruined the piece. Though I understand it’s extremely helpful to begginers and applies in most situations. I also agree with rawismojo, putting more focus on composition is a wise idea. Composition is like the foundation of a sig.
Also, if you’re going to put in text and such, I’d also mention depth, blending, colours, contrast (though that sort of fits in with lighting) ect. Although some of these aren’t always used, it’s good to know how to point it out when it is used.
I think the guide you’ve got there is a good start, but you could elaborate a lot more and refine the structure of it all.
Props for writing it though, hopefully it should see to more developed tags.

Text doesn’t always have to be readable. Personally, I’m a big fan of the varying text sizes. Usually if you have a big chunk of text, it can look really akward and distracting. But, as DSR has pointed out, the smaller unreadable text helps fade and balance it out.

Well, looks like I’m late to the party and most of what I’ve spotted as already been said. So, I guess I’ll just pay my 2 cents and make a neato banner. _

Yeah, can’t give you any program-specific help there. Try to do what you can to fix up what we’ve alraedy pointed out with your knowledge of PDN.

If you’re going to post it here, though, you can’t not expect us to critisize it. If you didn’t want to hear it how it is, then don’t post it in the first place. If you read our posts, you’d understand that we’re actually trying to help you.
So for starters, as ozzy has trying been asking for a while, what program are you using?

So, you go back and read all the crit posted in this thread and try to improve. Instead of ignoring what we’re suggesting and trying to make us sound hypocritical.

Imo, that entry still shouldn’t count. OP clearly states the colour palette be the main colours of the sig, not some barely visible text in the top right hand corner.

1. Obviously the poster will disagree to anything the moderator says.

You know, some people here are actually mature enough to perhaps, come to realisation that maybe their post was innapropriate.

Most the responses you’ve made in this thread reitterate your point as if we don’t get it, yet you ignore the important ones and complain as if we’re trying to force our views upon you. I won’t go into a fully detailed response now, but I will if I get time later. Just think about that, go back and read the posts.

Thanks Lax. The lightling looks off as I had multiple lightsources when I rendered it out of C4D, but only placed 1 visible one through photoshop. And same with the depth, it was heavily blurred and warped in photoshop. Since it’s just a test model, I won’t bother going back and fixing all that up, but it’s something to keep in mind for future designs.

Also, I have every intention of doing 3d modeling, which is why I bought the program in the first place. I’m starting off with abstract as it’s an easy way to create good looking peices while you get your head around the interface and tools. I mean afterall, it’s only my second day. :P
Currently though, I’m looking at the animation aspect of the program, as that caught my intrest. I’ll post videos up soon, once they finish rendering. (damn 10 second video took 6 hours to render =_=).

If you have photoshop, then I can explain how to convert your movie file into a .gif, with appropriate resizing and whatever other adjustments you fancy.

Well, you may use it for personal use only, but do not redistribute without my permisson (and you don’t, so don’t bother asking) or claim credit as your own. Other than that, go for it.
