I’m no stranger to that experience, but I always keep in mind that there is something to live for, even if it’s just the next good meal, or an opportunity I had never considered before.

When it comes to killing yourself, or doing something you are afraid of doing, do the thing you are afraid of doing. I know what I want to do. I just don’t have the money to do it, but I find ways to fight depression, or at least distract myself from it.

The problem with modern psychology is that it frees people from personal responsibility and accountability for their own behavior. It also frees us from the social responsibility of helping others through their personal problems. Lastly, it’s dominated by pharmaceutical companies that care more about money than wellness.

That’s bad science.

dd790, vikaTae, crossbower97, This may be naive of me, but I feel like if I had enough money, I could outrun depression. The problem with the rich and famous is that they live too extravagantly. I’d be happy to take a few million and travel the world for the rest of my life.

What a waste.

I was thinking that. Will they remember me for what I loved to do, or what I did to pay the bills. Still, to be loved for your work, and to still want to kill yourself, what does that?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Why is there even a war with OT/SD

There is no war. There is silly misinformation like this thread which tries to create the illusion of war, but SD and OT are forums on the same website, posted in by the same users. Nice try though. Fight the power and all that.

I always lol when humans refer to “Insert label here” as if they are a unified group and not just an umbrella term for a bunch of stupid humans. I don’t think so called Christians, or pagans, or blacks, or whites, or whatever are any different in this regard. You as a crow know this, bou troll so hard, so I thought I would throw you some crumbs.

I bet if we all wore colanders on our heads, we would find ways to use them more.

As others have said, you become sleep paralyzed every night. During sleep paralysis, you just happen to be partially awake. It’s nothing to be afraid of. In fact, this is best time to have a lucid dream.

You have clearly never experienced sleep paralysis before. To be fair, neither have I, but I’m pretty sure that the vast majority of sleep paralysis incidents wouldn’t allow the person experiencing them to start a lucid dream off, on account of being potentially traumatising experiences. M’just saying.

Once you realize that that you are sleep paralyzed, you can dream whatever you want. It’s the best time to have a simulated out of body experience. I don’t think I can do it anymore, but when I was a teenager, I did it all the time.

First, realize that you are in a dream state. Then imagine a way to climb out of your body. Two methods I used were a countdown porthole, where you imagine passing through an doorway in your mind after a visual countdown, and rope method, where you imagine a rope hanging above your sleeping body, then you grab it and climb out of your body.

It’s not spiritual mumbo jumbo, just a way to take control of your dreams.

I don’t know anything about anesthesia’s relationship to dream states.
I think more threads should shoot off into other threads.

I don’t think talking about certain celebrities counts as serious discussion.
I think general problem of suicide would fit better.

That reminds me, the original topic is, why would someone with all that fame and money kill themselves?

Topic: Serious Discussion / Communism Vs. Capitalism

I feel that comparing capitalism to communism is a bit apples to oranges-ish. Perhaps a more refined comparison/contrast could be made between capitalism and socialism.

That being said, as a Cuban I can first hand tell you that the health care system for Cuban nationals in Cuba is awful. Contrary to International praise of the Cuban healthcare system, the system lacks the resources to provide the necessary care for the average Cuban person. On the flip side Cuba also has a fantastic International Relations. Top doctors in Cuba are often sent to lesser developed countries (at no cost to the country) by the Cuban government to serve needy communities free of charge and get paid about $50 a month by the Cuban government. This is why the international community has such high regard for the Cuban health system because its best doctors are reserved for international patients to make the system appear strong on the outside when in reality it is crumbling for the average Cuban back on the island. The Cuban health care system is also much more focused on preventive care than on actual treatment (a major difference from USA).

While we might not have a healthcare utopia here in the usa, the care is drastically better (assuming you have the capital) than in Cuba, but if you are poor in the United States and need health care services… Well you are just screwed.

I believe that a mixed economy is the way to go and a health care system like that of Scandinavian countries or that of the UK, Germany, Austria etc….. are the best IMO.

It’s hard to find moderates between the two though because because adherents to either system typically abhor the other and treat anyone who supports the opposing view as a blight in society.

Every political system works perfectly, until you add people, then they all fail to some degree.

…Send me some cigars.
