Good Pope. Bad Pope. The teachings of Jesus are a philosophy, a way of living, not a hierarchy, or even a religion.

Am I allowed to talk about the space program? We could feed a lot of people with the money it takes to observe the effects of weightlessness on M&Ms.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Pop Culture Trending Topics - What do they mean for us?

Steampunk is still very much a sub-culture, but the fascination lies in an escape from the digital technology which has so completely dominated our daily lives.

Zombies however, seem to represent mindless conformity. The struggle of survivors is to protect themselves from the soulless hoard, and to safeguard the divine spark of individuality, creativity, and humanity. In a strange irony however, after hitting the mainstream, many of us have become zombie zombies.

That is if you are too lazy or retarded to get a real job you start calling yourself a philosopher start talking out of your ass.

The application of philosophy is required to form this opinion. All social commentary is an expression of philosophy. The very idea that philosophy is a sham, is a philosophy.

Never heard that one before, but I think they got it from the Bible because it sounded cool and just ran with it.

For the sake of discussion, who is ‘people’ and when do they come out with this?

It was black panthers in particular that got me thinking about this. They seem to use it as a platform for civic unrest, and blaming the “White” man for “Black” woes. Technically, the Spanish and Portuguese were using Africans as slaves for hundreds of years before “White” Colonials.

Simply asking what philosophy is, is philosophy in and of itself.
Philosophy is not a matter of information, but the personal, and universal meaning of things.

Topic: Serious Discussion / "Thug" is the new "N-word"/Jordan Davis and Treyvon Martin

What’s sad in cases like these is, no one really wins. Some crazy guy flipping out and killing a disrespectful teenager doesn’t make being disrespectful okay. And rioting in the streets doesn’t do much in the way of easing negative stereotypes.

Topic: Serious Discussion / 400 years of slavery?

Where do people come up with “400 years of slavery and oppression” when the United States is only 238 years old? British colonial slavery under “Whites” began around 1670 and lawfully ended in 1865. That’s a total of 195 years of slavery.

discuss how media is to blame for all of society’s ills

also, proof

Media is to blame for all society’s ills. I’m infuriated, but this doesn’t surprise me.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Life on other planets

I could be wrong, but seeing how the window of opportunity for life as we know it is so small, there’s a good chance that another planet would go through a similar evolutionary process. Inter-dimensional life however, is another story.

911 huh? The numbers have lost all meaning. Everyone’s numb. And this event pales in comparison to what is yet to come. Like the proverbial hand of God, the U.S. government let this disaster happen, either deliberately through action, inaction, or sheer incompetence.

Topic: Serious Discussion / When Does A Human Life Begin?

If the pro-choice movement were to just openly accept that an abortion ends a human life, the pro-life movement would have to pack up their protest signs and go home. Abortion kills unborn babies. People are going to get abortions anyway, so they should be legal.

I think both sides of this argument need a reality check. Liars and hypocrites all.

Of course all women are different, and have different tastes. But a little confidence goes along a way, not just with women, but with people in general. Don’t be incredulous.

Didn’t take long
for the de-evolution
of a rap revolution
into a weak solution
of profanity
insanity
infantile in execution
you left your rhymes behind and created word pollution
with insulting slander
and talk about private parts
son listen up ‘cause your desecrating sacred arts
words have the power of atom bombs
and you’re wasting ’em up
with bad jokes
attacking moms

Here you have a chance to be your best and pass the test
articulate the talent of your ability to express
You’re better than that
not some wannabe punk
say what you gotta say without reverting to that stupid junk

Dissing your brother, talking shit about their mother
you should be ashamed, I been watching you undercover
Yeah, you’re better than that
you’re not a no good liar
but decent human being with the potential to reach higher

So reach my brother, my friend, you’re a poet
but with all the smack you’re talking, you would hardly know it.

You’re very wrong, man.

Wow, you really put me in my place. Listen, ever wonder why hot girls, nice girls, and even smart girls, end up with some douche bag in a backwards hat? It’s confidence, the shining attribute of idiots and assholes everywhere, so while you’re metro-sexing up your hair, and putting pretty perfume on, some oily jerk is going to mosey on up to the object of your desire, walk away with her, and score. Know why? Because you are insecure, and he has confidence.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Hell

What are your personal views on a literal, and/or figurative hell?

How do global traditions and beliefs regarding hell differ and/or agree?

Is the Christian concept of hell supported by the Bible, or is it denominational dogma?

On a personal note, I just watched a documentary that got me wondering about hell, not just as a religious construct, but as a state of being.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Do the Fine Arts make you a better person?

vikaTae, All television shows, even the advertisements, are an art form. There are creative minds at work behind every minute of programing we are subjected to in our multimedia saturated society. Just because it’s commercially produced, and doesn’t meet your standards doesn’t mean it’s not art. That just means it’s bad art.

The news has never been more artistic than it is today. We’ve given live war a fade in, and a theme song. Journalists are accomplished writers and orators. Take note of all the graphic effects next time you watch a newscast. Writing, acting, reporting, recording, lighting, editing, sound, music… People have to create and implement all that stuff. Try telling them it’s not art.

My grasp on art is just fine.

Topic: Serious Discussion / Do the Fine Arts make you a better person?

Jantonaitis, In response to some pretty strong criticism, and personal attacks, I was referring more to mass produced contemporary commercial art, which is the most prolific. I don’t see most television shows, popular music, and shock art as having a positive impact on society.

Also, there are exceptions to the rule on both sides of this discussion. I’m not saying that all fine art is good, and all pop art is bad.

Does fine art make someone a better person than someone else? No.
Does fine art have the potential broaden one’s horizens? Yes.

I’m a loquacious poet, I’m verbally voracious
You’re about to know it cause my rhymes are audacious
Nah, I’m just playing,
have your little repartee
It’s not my style to come crashing on your par-tay
Tournament this, with a limited lyrical alphabet
I’m rapid firing rhetoric that you haven’t even heard of yet
Words Words Words, with fluidity they manifest
Peace to y’all O.T. and enjoy your contest.
