Topic: Technical Support / Some recent change is causing Flash to repeatedly crash/lock up my browser

Well, it wasn’t a bad idea to look there… but I’m not finding anything that looks related. I did however discover that I had an in-browser flash version that was apparently different than my system version (despite the fact that I updated my system version a couple days ago). I’m guessing the update didn’t install right or something. I’ll report back if I still experience problems (none yet).

I’ll give the older versions a try I suppose. Seems 99.9% of my computer problems are caused by adobe products.

Topic: Technical Support / Some recent change is causing Flash to repeatedly crash/lock up my browser

My game isn’t done in flash and doesn’t use it at all, so I know it’s not my game doing it. Over the last couple weeks I’ve started getting issues where the flash plugin will randomly freeze/crash, and my whole computer seems to get slower and slower the longer I stay on one page on the site. I’m not sure if it’s some new ad you’re running or something with the site, but it’s getting extremely annoying.

Topic: Technical Support / Apparently invites with JS aren't working right?

A user of my game left this comment:

“I don’t think the “invite more friends” button thing works. I sent an invite to some people but they said they didn’t get it so I sent an invite to one of my alternate Kongregate accounts and it didn’t receive an invite through shouts, Pm’s or chat."

He’s able to pop up the box and send the invites… so this is something on Kongregate’s end.

Topic: Technical Support / Increasingly inconsistent behavior from JS API

I’ve been testing some stuff with the guest landing page of my game. Since it’s kreds-enabled, it requires one and a kongregate account to play.

Used to be real snappy. You’d click my custom image “button” and the kongregate account creation dialog would come up. Now it might come up when you click it, might come up 20s later. No apparent reason. The image doesn’t get shown until I get the API load callback triggered from your API, so I figure the API not loading isn’t the problem. I’m not really sure what is. The behavior is so inconsistent it’s hard to say.

edit: additionally, the user login callback doesn’t seem to trigger when I can’t click the button. ie logging in does not make the game load in-frame as it should.

And they don’t seem to be updating as new people score things.

Is this some kind of known issue?

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / [Backyard Monsters] CLOSING

I’ve never played this backyard monsters game, but I see a lot of people complaining about the move. Are they really doing it to put their game on Facebook? It’s quite possible to have your game accessible from both (mine is). Though, really, I’ve found that Kongregate is a way better platform than Facebook. They might want Facebook’s numbers… but no games get those numbers any more because something is seriously messed up with their advertising. Most people seem to think it’s from some kind of click/like bots. Nobody is sure whose bots they are.

Topic: Technical Support / Game not loading problem increasing in frequency

I believe I get the error in other browsers as well. I actually just got it again and looked into it a bit further. As I was doing so, the game did eventually load. It seems what’s happening is that there’s some error in Kong’s ad player that causes a blank head/body inside the iframe without any loading indicator or anything. When the ad timer expires, the game loads as normal… but you get no feedback before that point, leading users to believe there’s an issue with the game.

Just a note to anyone who may have quit because of the bill view clutter: there is now a “Bill Filter” that lets you cut down on that by viewing a more specific subset of bills.

Topic: Technical Support / Game not loading problem increasing in frequency

This is an issue I used to rarely see: you load a game, and the game is just a grey background that never loads or does anything.

Now I’m starting to see it more frequently, and a lot of users of my game are complaining about it happening.

I get this site-wide, so I know it’s not an issue with my game. It also happens before my game even tries to load at all (it’s rendered in HTML, so it’s pretty obvious when the source of the frame is nothing at all).

When I update it, it acts like it’s updated and I’ve added/deleted what I wanted to… then it just goes back to how it was when I reload the page.

Topic: Kongregate / Why do I see ads on my own game?

The documentation states that ad revenues are based on the revenues your game creates. Zachary has stated that the advertisements are not game-specific.

I can potentially interpret Zachary’s post to mean that SOME of the generated revenue for each game comes from some shared pool, and the rest is based on your number of plays/views/clicks/whatever. But again, the documentation doesn’t mention this at all, nor does the revenue screen (which represents exactly what the documentation seems to imply, at least to me).

Anyway, I doubt I’ll get any more of an official response on this, so I’ll just assume there might be some reason why I have to see these ads.

But the documentation tells me nothing of the sort, and also heavily implies that shared ad revenues are directly tied to your own game. The revenue screen for my different uploads also shows different amounts per game, lists the number of plays and revenue generated specifically by my game. The generated revenue has also been very obviously tied to the number of plays my game gets (it has greatly accelerated as more people have started playing more regularly).

So who’s right: the admin, or the documentation? These two official responses seem to contradict one another.

Just so I’m clear: there is no official information stating that there is a “shared developer pool” of any kind?

I’m also 100% certain Kongregate tracks all the information you’ve listed, saybox. There are provisions in the official literature from Kongregate stating that botting for ad revenue is disallowed, meaning that someone can do exactly what you said within the system (but will be manually banned for it).

And yes, it is especially silly that I see the ads on preview versions of games.

You can find all the official information about ad revenue here.

Yes… I’ve read all the official information and it says nothing about a shared advertising pool for all developers. This is the only thing it says about how you generate ad revenue:

“How much ad revenue does Kongregate share?

Kongregate shares between 25% and 50% of ad revenue generated by games with their respective developers."

Topic: Kongregate Multiplayer Games / Clout -- A Satirical Political "Simulator"

The game uses PHP and mySQL. I wrote it in notepad and phpMyAdmin.

edit: also please note I’ve been programming since I was 14… generally using notepad for complex programs isn’t the best idea. The only reason my game runs very well regardless is that I’ve been programming for a rather long time.

It’s certainly possible to blow all of your energy in 20s. Probably even less if you try hard… but the point of the game is to think about how to maximize your gains with a limited amount of energy/cash for drugs to get more energy. There are also various things you can do without energy.

And again: care to explain why if my game is P2W none of the top players have bought any Clout? (Clout is what gets you on the top 20)

Hey look, somebody else who doesn’t know what P2W means and who judges games without playing them or understanding them or even bothering to read my posts where I explain how the game isn’t even close to P2W. Even other actual players have tried to explain this once they came to the game from this thread and found it’s not P2W at all.

And yet, folks like you keep coming. Just keep on proving the point of the thread title.

I also like how you think posting troll comments to games and engaging in rating fraud is “nice”. Ehl oh ehl.

edit: oh yeah, and please explain why if my game is P2W none of the Top 20 players have bought any clout or cash? Nobody seems to be able to explain that one.
