When you buy something the price is multiplied by a number (the number varies per thing.) So let’s say that, in a hypothetical situation with fake numbers, one pizza costs $1. The way your saying it is that it would cost $10 to buy 10 pizzas. However, you are forgetting that when you buy something the price changes. If you buy 1 pizza for $1 and you want to buy another pizza, it might cost something like $1.60. So the equation to buy 10 pizzas would not be 1 × 10, but something more along the lines of 1 + (1 × 1.6) + (1.6 × 1.6)+etc.
