So, even if I can figure out the code, I still have to have all the pieces of the puzzle? I understand the point, but it seems really counter-intuitive.

too repetitive.. look for keys, collect codes..

Either make so that the code cannot be read without all the pieces or make the door code work without all the pieces. otherwise OK
