so wait - if i die, then come back, i lose all my cores. but i no longer get the opportunity to acquire achievement rewards i earned previously? So, the cores i won but didn't spend are... gone forever?

Scavenge is too useful for how cheap it is. After maxing it out (which doesn't take long at all), I went from getting 1 core for the first enemy to 13!
