with regards to jerky movement, the problem is both the controls and how objects move, although only the controls are a serious problem. if you hold down the arrow keys to move, there's a pretty meaningful delay in response when changing direction, which is enough to make the game pretty awkward to play. moving by tapping the arrow keys emphasises the jerkyness in object movement, but is mostly a problem because it's unintuitive, and also slow.

on a related note, you don't seem to be able to move diagonally. is that intentional?

also, good things: the art is fine, if unexceptional. if you can sort out the movement, you've got an ok framework to build a deeper game on. adding levels and an increasing difficulty would be a good start to that.
