Also, I don't think I'll ever solve one of these all the way through without at least taking a tiny peek at a walkthrough.

Well done, I even can´t cheat because I have 11 code papers but I can´t just guess the 12th number because it says "find all code papers"

black key on top of ceiling fan blade right side you can barely see it, from there it will lead you the rest of the way out.
