Not to mention the fact that the tank is made of a mixture of nitroglycering and toilet paper.

It makes more sense if you think of it from the POV of an Army private who is driving the tank and will get severely reprimanded if he scratches the paint, or otherwise damages, on the helicopter, car, guns, etc. he's parking next to.
