2 for trying. At the beginning, just learning to make the navigation work isn't enough to merit posting the game. / / There will be more shootorials that will help you make your game compelling enough to play. Wait until you've had a chance to practice the coding before you post questions about what will make it better: : SO MUCH MORE will make it better. Keep trying tho. Try building a loader too

It ran fine for a while, then started to lag horribly and show multiple copies of the background.

That's a good start. You should work on an animated airplane, make sure it won't leave the screen. The background also looks buggy, I'm pretty sure the shootorial will explain how to make it work better.
