It's nostalgic and interesting, and I like the different shields idea. It'd be nice to have an toggle map of places I've been to help navigate.

knowing what the hell you are doing always helps. how about a short intro to teach us the skills to survive? or was that too sensible a concept?
also, actually dying after you lose all your lives to end the game is always a good idea.
