This is not bad for your first game. I noticed that the animations were a bit jittery when jumping. Make sure your frame images are the same size and have the origin point set to center.
)
Thank you - the animations seem jittery because I am not very god at the art side so there aren't many frames of animation.

I like your simple graphics, especially the tiles. They remind me a lot of mario.

I like to story. Hope there's more to it. Would have loved having "up" to jump, space bar is a little awkward.
A few other people have suggested up as jump instead but I'm still trying to figure out a way to have both up and space work.

You can now use the Up arrow to jump as well as the space bar!
