Breathing?

Sometimes I focus so much on the trials of life

That I forget to breathe

My lungs start to scream

Though i’ve long since relinquished the action from my life

For they always seem to go unheard

When I stop to take a breath

It seems they always catch in my throat

Choking air

Even the necesseties of life are slowly killing me

But i’ll keep trying

For there was a time

When this cycle seemed to have meaning

And smiles came without effort

Though the memories of such times seem to be fading

Oh so quickly into the distance

Swallowed by time

I always seem to reach into the past

Trying desperately to relive those days

Reaching for the hand I used to grasp so lovingly

Before her face began to blur

Her voice no longer familiar to my ears

Why must life strip away

The only reason my heart beats

Why must the years snatch away the only part of them

I ever wished to remember

Why must I try so hard

Just to fall short

And again my lungs are screaming

Again I have forgotten to breathe…
