Terr002

Hey there.

I’m Terr002, also known as Rex. I was a Dutch Chat Moderator from Aug 29th, 2008 until July 2nd, 2013. You can usually find me badgewhoring in the Dutch Chatrooms.

I currently study Computer Sciences in Amsterdam. I’m also a member of a Student Rowing Association in Amsterdam and chairman of the IT committee there.

Moderating
My moderating philosophy is based on the idea that the ideal moderator never has to silence, kick or threaten with either. The duty of a moderator is not to punish those who break rules, but to maintain a good atmosphere in the chatroom. A harsh attitude may seem the most effective, but there is little chance that it will do any good to the atmosphere. Who wants to be in a chatroom where you get punished for the slightest mishap?

Every troublemaker has a weakness. Beat trolls by staying calm, laughing at him and focusing your attention on others. Beat youngsters by friendly explaining that no-one really appreciates it when they do that, while staying silly instead of serious. Beat little kids that brag by trolling them, by making them believe something that isn’t true. Then, after a huge story about Kongregate chatroom conspiracies with the government or whatever you come up with, they ask you “really?”, you say “Of course not”. There is a solution for nearly everyone that doesn’t involve silencing, banning or threatening with either. The only time you should use them is when someone is persistently spamming or when you fail. And remember, always use smileys! :D
