Upgrades are bought with your gold once you have enough money. The upgrades are actually very powerful and make a big difference in gains so they are a little more expensive.
*hint* you can save up and buy the first level upgrades for each structure, get the first and second level for farm and it will speed you up a bit ;)
Nope! Your bonuses are equal to your total dark knights at the top of the game screen. .005% per dark knight and the bonus applies to the multiplier which affects your gold and troop gains for all of the Economy tab items.
It saves automatically once per minute and it saves each time you successfully close the browser. The manual saving is a guaranteed release in the short future though as we already had planned for that but we wanted to at least get the game out first to gather more feedback.

Nice game so far, looking forward to what you guys will add. One idea for the story: Since you've already implied that the whole "dark knights" thing will backfire on Catherine, can you add that into a game? Like an event that will happen once you unlock the last DK achievement? Maybe it will even offer your general a choice, which will affect which "ending" you get.

So far i really like this game, but how much do a dark knight give?! 1%? 0.1%? I need to know. But so far, it's actually good. But is there a difference between army power, and army size..? The first country got 270 power with 50.000 size, and i got 2.7 power with 5.000 size.. Is there something that give greater power?
Army Power is a factor of your Troops, and your Dark Knights. The More troops you have the more power you have! The more Dark Knights you have, the more Army Power per troop you get! The Dark Knight cumulative effect is quite powerful, but the modifier per each Dark Knight is quite small! you need legions of Dark Knights to rule the world! =D

another bug. sometime refreshing causes the game to ask for a different version of unity web player. it says i have 4558001 and needs 4606020, but i just reinstalled the latest unity web player when it came up the first time. i keep getting some problem with mouse wheel scrolling that makes the menus jump almost the entire page up or down, so have to refresh. about 2/3 of the time i get the unity error. also not messing with system clock, i leave that to windows. the scrolling thing could be an error in interaction with setpoint.
Interesting. The web player version thing is an issue with the unity webplayer not being updated to the beta version of the engine completely. Or partial support. but it seems random who it effects. I've seen it a few times. but not in the past 8 hours. So its a very difficult thing to trace and more than likely out of our hands =\. The mouse wheel is likewise something that we have trouble replicating! Due to Unitys security settings we don't have a clean way to ensure the game is back in focus, so often times you have to click once on the game somewhere, or twice in odd circumstances. That could have something to do with the wheel issues if you are scrolling when the game is out of focus. Would you mind PMing me your browser version? it might help us in an attempt to replicate the issue.
We might do something like that in a future expansion. The game as it currently stands would be hard to work around it! We will definitely file that idea away in the expansion idea file!

Dark Knights boost your gold production and Army Power after a Dark Knight Reset. However only larger numbers have a noticeable effect. the more Dark Knights you have when you reset the better. So buy a bunch of altars and crank them out! Then reset and enjoy faster gains on everything! Better Descriptions are coming soon.

HUGE BUG. refreshing the page seems to do something odd with the offline progress, as if i do so while making about 5k per second with around +40 dark knights per altar tick, uipon reloading i have around 40 million$ and gained about 1000 dark knights. the dark knights also have no perceivable effect on unit price/performance after they start costing about 50-100k each.

The options button is a dead end button, once you click that you need to refresh to get back to the game, none of the tabs do anything either but I'm sure that's already known.
Its an isolated issue that a few people seem to have. If its not too much trouble could you try manually installing the latest unity webplayer from http://unity3d.com/webplayer and see if that fixes the issue? If it does it would help us confirm. If not, what browser are you using?

I was considering perhaps an achievement at 50 built, and leave the rest as is. Do you think that would liven things up at the start a little? Because it does pick up pretty fast once you get a few things up and going!

Taking notes are we? The achievement gains are cumulative. The tool tips need to be corrected, slipped through the cracks before launch. Thanks for alerting us! The way it works is base + base * .5 (50%) for the first, then base + base *1, or base + base, for the second, base + base * 1.5 for third, etc. Base values are then also modified by total dark knights. okay before i say what i came down to the comment section to say let me just start by saying i LOVE this idle game and think it has a ton of potential
that being said though, this game makes me lag to all hell, at first i thought it was just my computer in general but when i closed this game my computer went back to running smoothly.
We are sorry to hear that. We had one report of a similar issue in testing, but could not find a cause for it, as it seems somewhat random! Would it be too much trouble for you to PM me your system specs? We are trying to find the root of the problem, it seems to be related to some 3rd party software thats not playing nicely with the actual webplayer app. In your lag case did the lag clear up as long as you were on the tab with the game, and get bad when you left the tab? Also, one other thing to try is a manual install of the latest Unity webplayer from http://unity3d.com/webplayer.

A few minor issues: 1) Please let the game resize when going into cinematic mode or zooming in the browser. 2) A different font for the descriptions, very hard to read when playing on a TV from a distance 4/5 so far
Both fixes are in the works! The font will be fixed with the next update, its already fixed in our development project! The Zooming issue may take a little time to get sorted without breaking everything! Have no fear though. It will be resolved!

Any chance you could change the font for numbers built (while hovering over buildings) to the same as at the top? The 1 looks very similar to 7, especially the 7 used up top. I don't see a good reason for different fonts and it's confusing moving back and forth between the two.

right now, the gains from conquered nations is too small. the gains from Edryia 24,631.53 gold and 89 troops every 2 or 3 minutes. that is almost meaningless when I am getting almost 20 times the gold per cycle of my farms and over 45 times the troops per cycle of my barracks. It might help if the gains from the nations scaled off of the dark knights like everything else, or you had upgrades that you could buy to increase the cycle time or gain amount.

All plugin based web game engines have their moments. The issue is dealing with EVERY possible configuration of computer. from 10 year old potatos that can barely run the operating system much less a browser with a game in it. To top of the line workstations and gaming rigs, to the middle of the road average joes computer with Norton antivirus snooping every process and slowing things to a crawl. Its not really any one platforms fault. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion!

Yet another bloated idle game written in unity. While not send us 10 meg photos via signal flare while you're at it. Stop using unity, devs. Nobody likes it, it's slow, it's badly made, and all you're accomplishing by wasting your time learning it is limiting the size of your potential audience. "Unity? Oh, close the window. Next?"
Don't know about bloated. Half of the file size is the music! Though we are conscious of the subpar market penetration of the unity web player. Web games are not our intended final target, but a means to an end at this point, or we would be working with flash etc. We just don't agree with Unreal's royalty policy or we would have targeted that engine from the start!

Good game but does need some improvements. 1) Specifically state how much of a bonus dark knights give. 2) Change the font of the text, the text on mouse over popups can be very hard to read. 3) Change achievement descriptions, a majority of the achievements don't say what boost they give(or maybe they just don't give them at all). 4) Change location of reset options; putting the soft and hard rests so close could lead to mistakes and severe frustration.

As for the resets. We have a conformation scroll that pops up to warn the player of what the reset does. But it might be a good idea to change the font color of the hard reset to bright red or something as a further warning In case someone mistakes hard reset for dark knight reset!

I saw this from the Broken Mouse Convention. Great game. bit slow to begin with. but you are involved with the community which is good.

And yes, the game is a bit slow at the start. We tried to pace it out so there's something to do throughout the life of the game. And also to make room for updates and more content later on.

I like that the staff seems serious about the game. That is enough to convince to play for a while.The graphs aren't very detailed, but as you said you are gauging interest, and that makes a lot of sense. Some suggestions I would give is to have multiple tabs for buildings, instead of having everything crammed together, to add gold/s or troops/s and to say how much we gain on the next updated (Such as by hovering over it)

In a previous comment you said "make that 2 marks for dark knight %" in response to somehow asking for their actual values. Does this mean they each add 2% gold and army bonus?
No. I was checking my checklist twice for that suggestion! A display of Percentage increase granted by dark knights will be coming soon! The actual Dark Knight modification rate is dependent on the number of Dark Knights you have when you reset! So its a somewhat difficult thing to represent as a set number. was working a minute ago but when i refreshed to make sure it saved, the mouse would no longer appear in the game so i refreshed a second time and now I get a "error launching unity player" every time i try to load.
Wow, thats a new one! Can you try completely closing the browser? or maybe try it with a different browser to see if the problem persists? The unity player app itself might be having issues. What browser are you playing in? We are currently trying to fix a problem that appears to be mostly firefox related with zoom.

My only complaint is no tooltip showing how much more gold from buying something like the gold mine until after I buy it
Economy buildings add their own production value with each purchase. For instance, if a farm makes 1.2 gold per cycle, each farm will add 1.2. Achievements, and Dark Knights (after you reset with a nice accumulation of them) add to that base value. And the Upgrades make the economy buildings produce faster (faster cycles).
Thank you for the feedback though, we will look into adding the gain value to the tooltips! It makes sense as once you have several achievements and upgrades and hundreds of buildings, it can be hard to know what your getting!

Kinda unbalanced... for example, cathedral should give about 500 times more gold. I think there should be more achievements for the starting levels as well. Players don't often enjoy hitting a wall 10 seconds into the game.

Apparently there seems to be an error in Dark Knight (DK) calculation - at 100 Goldmines I receive the same amount of gold (~10k) with 160 DKs as I did with 40 DKs
The more dark knights you have at reset, the stronger the effect. Try to let them build up for a while before you reset! Small values do apply, but sometimes get rounded off by the formula if they are too small! Hint: Thousands of DKs are better than hundreds! ;)

The first idle game was created in order to show that a game needed to have certain features in order to motivate a player to play it. It failed in that respect.
We wanted to take the concept of idle, and enhance it a little, but not too much! I hope we succeeded, or at least planted to seeds for that success to grow with players ideas and input! Thank you for trying our game!

Sorry, i forgot to add, when you update please make sure the player user data is safe, and can you make it online save? Most idle game is local save and keep deleting the user data each time they have a huge update. I stopped playing adventure capitalist because of corrupt data.
