Selling things cost points because the points are evolution points, and your disease needs to use point to evolve and change itself.

I finally got Madagascar, but Japan and Cuba managed to close off before infection. Made me think: There's no way 150mill people squatting on two tiny island groups are gonna survive without imports. Fudge your game mechanics, I won that one.
