Adding some things to naruto's guide:
1.) Pick Virus. 2) Start in Canada, New Zealand, Cuba, Greenland, West Europe, or Madagascar. If you do not get there restart. 3) Sell the starting symptoms, and buy sneezing (unless it is what you started with, just keep it). 4) Buy 1-1-1-0 resistances but no transmissions (they trigger closures). 5) Once four countries are infected, sell sneezing to get rid of visibility. 6) Wait until all countries are infected. If Madagascar closes its shipyards/borders (unless you started in Madagascar) or is not infected in 30 days, restart. 7) Buy all four drug resistances AND sneezing, coughing, and vomiting. 8) After a few days, unlock tiers 2-3, (do not buy tier 4 ever!) keeping whatever symptoms it gives you. 9) Buy fever, fatigue, diarrhea, pulmonary edema, and hypersensitivity. Then save for kidney failure and ataxia. 10) keep this comment alive Thanks for the comment! I got 13th of all time by using this method.

I've lost count of the number of times I've played this game - yet I still have never managed to infect a single person in Madagascar. Infuriating.

Scenario 1) Disease Starts in japan. 3 infected. President of Madagascar: "HOLY ****, we found a disease that makes to cough when a rodent bites you! SHUT DOWN ALL THE SCHOOLS, CLOSE THE BORDERS, SCREW THE HOSPITALS, WE DON'T NEED FOOD AND SUPPLIES THROUGH THE DOCKS OR AIRPORTS! HAND OUT BOTTLED WATER, GAS MASKS, ENFORCE CURFEW AND MARTIAL LAW, AND CREMATE THE DEAD... NOW!
Scenario 2) Disease that in one second of infection gives you pulmonary edema then tells you to commit suicide starts in Northern-Eastern Canada and is spreading fast. Civilian: " President, we better close the borders and be careful... that disease ripped through Canada!"
President Of Greenland: " Eh... who cares i'm playing Minecraft."

my ulitmate strategy that infected almost every couuntry is this, pick realistic pick virus then sell all starting symptoms then get airborne then work up resistances and get waterborne and then get all resistances.

Some suggestions for this:
-Countries need to OPEN their borders again if your disease goes into hiding, or recession, or something. It needs to be something other than "Oh, a random event triggered, I lose." There needs to be a way to get around it. Whether it be through just lowering visibility, or having a dormancy option, or something. Alternatively, there needs to be a way to spread into countries with closed borders (why doesn't having airborne or waterborne transmission do that already?)
-Zero infectivity needs to result in your disease dying out. Zero visibility should guarantee that you will spread everywhere without having borders closed (as it should be impossible to get zero visibility, due to the above issue of your disease dying out). Clearly, some numbers need to be tweaked behind the scenes.
