Under rating threshold (show) Hey delos, I tried to take two different campaign contributions a few times each and it just takes me to the hacking is bad screen. I have tried to refresh, assuming I just clicked it right after someone else had, but the campaign contribtions stay there, and they keep taking me to the hacking screen when I click to accept them. Any reason for this?

+ - !

(0)

Developer response from delosford

There are various reasons this can occur because the front-end validation isn't there for all requirements. If you can't introduce bills due to energy or stress, you can't take contributions. eventually the button will grey in all cases.

well, I'm glad they've so expertly dashed my attempts at making a game with low sysreqs that runs in a browser on just about any hardware or system. I'll be having a bit of a talk with them about that.

Under rating threshold (show) Maybe to balance that out you could cap the amount of stress that drugs could reduce you too to something around 5-10% that way if they want to keep gaining the extra health they have to budget their plays and make sure they don't get out of the green.

Under rating threshold (show) Because the only reason I use drugs is to compete.

+ - !

(-1)

Developer response from delosford

Drugs are already extensively balanced through the addiction, withdrawal, overdose and scandal systems. They do not need additional drawbacks. Many people play drug-free.

qazq2

May. 18, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) I have an idea... Every four drugs you use will decrease your energy regeneration by one point for the next day, and every drug you are addicted to decreases it by one until you become un-addicted. I know energy is pretty touchy (for good cause) but I thought it might be a good idea to balance between drug and non-drug users without actually changing the overall energy regen and ruining the game. Just a thought.

+ - !

(-1)

Craftybutcher101

May. 18, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Another thought for you Delos: I know heath regen is pretty touchy, but I think that if you are able to constantly keep your stress in the green for a full day (24 hours) (outside of the hospital) you should be able to regenerate 1 extra HP for that day.

+ - !

(0)

Developer response from delosford

That's not a bad idea. The only potential problem I can see is that it obviously rewards heavy drug users significantly more than non-users.

Under rating threshold (show) As clarification, this future game should be part of Clout. Perhaps "The Campaign Trail" should allow you to run for president as well, from your congressional character.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

You'll be able to participate in presidential campaigns via Rubicon eventually. Seriously, you should be following the facebook page if you're thinking this far into things. You'll see a lot of ideas like this that I post.

Top12Gun

May. 17, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) And perhaps, as a future (inter-connected) game concept, you could make it possible to be elected president. President would then be able to appoint from actual players, all cabinet positions, CIA & FBI directors, and any empty supreme court seats. Make this happen. *Drools.*

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

That is definitely the only way that you'll ever be able to be president. It would need to be a totally separate game to even have a chance of being something fun/interesting. Also, how hilarious would it be to have a game that literally only one person in the world can play at a time?

Under rating threshold (show) Arkada has apparently found an exploit (maybe it's intended but I doubt it) You can't play against your own bill but you can append poison pill then oversight committee it. So he's taking contributions outside of his party then poisoning it so it will die off quickly and oversighting it so it can't be removed.

+ - !

Developer response from delosford

That's not an exploit. I also have no idea why you think that would be a helpful strategy..?

Under rating threshold (show) It has changed drastically. Just study history; the european-americans regarded both the native americans and africans as sub human (even after the civil war when the government gave rights to all they withheld those rights from native americans because they viewed them as sub-human) The reason you could buy africans is because they were thought of as sub-human, you never heard of a european slave (the closest thing was an indentured servant, which was much much better than a slave). The concept behind racism has never changed; the definition has changed.

+ - !

(-2)

Developer response from delosford

The concept and definition are the same thing.

JakeInTheBox

May. 16, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) You could add framing someone for a crime to the game. So you could make up crimes that you blame them for, or when you uncover something from an investigation you could (for a huge cost I would imagine) from someone for that crime. And as for the finding out who they effected with the crime, you would still need to investigate to find the scandal, and then pay a P.I. like 20k to dig deeper. I don't know if that helps balance it or not though.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

Media Slander is effectively the same as your first idea. And like I said, it would be a delicate balance between offense and defense if I were to add a feature like that. A straight cash cost with no scandal would not suffice.

JakeInTheBox

May. 16, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) The game is shaping up great delos. I am loving everything as you have been implementing it. I was just wondering if you were considering putting in a way to see who someone may have attacked when they used a skullduggery. Like if you get a larceny scandal from investigating, maybe a way to "dig deeper" and see who they stole from.

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from delosford

I've been trying to think of a good way to implement this for some time. It's a difficult balance to find between not making it too good of a counter to skullduggery and also actually making it useful enough that people are compelled to use it. I may also roll this into some police bribery thing that is related to the protection level stuff (so that way I can make it extra good as it's scandalous).

qazq2

May. 16, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Actually Rhysdog is right. So is delsoford in a way. Historically almost all forms of racism involved equating other races as subhuman (Darwin even said that they evolved from a different animal and that he would rather be descended from an ape than a black man) The modern definition of racism described by delosford was only true after the mid 20th century. (although elements of it existed beforehand such as the spanish inquisition targeting jews and cagots as heretics regardless of real beliefs) If you study history you will realize how terrible racism is and that our modern definition barely scratches the surface (not advocating our modern form; I am adamantly against racism)

+ - !

(-1)

Developer response from delosford

The definition of racism has never changed. It has nothing to do with animals.

Under rating threshold (show) @delos, if having a zoo where you look at black people isnt treating them like animals i dont know what is... although modern racism generally isnt really that severe neither are greens generally genocidal.

+ - !

(-1)

Developer response from delosford

Again: isolated incidents that don't describe the actual term you're using do not change the definition of that term. That's just completely ridiculous. Animals by definition have nothing to do with racism amongst humans.

Under rating threshold (show) My goodness, wildcard sure needs a buff, considering it costing me all the clout I earned from tier 1 to tier 4.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

Wildcard isn't really supposed to be a replacement for all other abilities. It has the highest base strength of any ability, though it's never strong/weak so it's unlikely it will ever be the best play. It's also extremely random and can theoretically do quite a lot if you're lucky. It can also do negative damage (ie pushes the bill the opposite direction of what you wanted).

Under rating threshold (show) from wikipedia's page on racism In Meiners book The Outline of History of Mankind he claimed that a main characteristic of race is either beauty or ugliness. He viewed only the white race as beautiful. He considered ugly races as inferior, immoral and animal like.Human zoos (called “People Shows”), were an important means of bolstering popular racism by connecting it to scientific racism Joice Heth, an African American slave, was displayed by P.T. Barnum in 1836, a few years after the exhibition of Saartjie Baartman, the "Hottentot Venus", in England. beyond [known peoples of black West Africa] to the south there is no civilization in the proper sense. There are only humans who are closer to dumb animals than to rational beings. just look at the page and ctrl+f the word animal.

+ - !

(0)

Developer response from delosford

A single obscure quote from someone in the 1800s making an analogy does not define racism. Racism is the belief that people with highly variant genetics from yourself are somehow inferior. Animals have literally nothing to do with it.
