Under rating threshold (show) why do alaskan and hawaiian public appearance offers take so much energy? do you walk/swim the whole way there?!

No, but I hear we haven't invented teleporters yet, so distance is still a factor.

Under rating threshold (show) @ patriot, you can run for speaker, have weaker plays on ct1 introduced bills, and delos' appreciation.

Under rating threshold (show) Could you please add "Players Active Today" in World? It's just something I'd like, don't feel you have an obligation to do it right away if you have other plans first.

Many players don't play every day, so this would be a highly variant number that didn't mean much.

Under rating threshold (show) In a tragic turn of events, a close friend of congressperson Troll has been victimized in an assassination attempt on the congressperson. Apparently a carafe of liquor in the congressperson's home was lethally poisoned, however the congressperson survived unharmed due to the protective effects of the equipment they were wearing" is this possible?

+ - !

No. I removed that assassination type for all but failure, for that reason. I'll probably completely remove it eventually.

Under rating threshold (show) How is the public so happy with a 44% TAX, No way that would really happen, before the public got upset when we had 100k salaries.

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from delosford

um... I think you might want to read about the tax rate and happiness levels in Europe, especially Northern Europe/Scandinavia. People get happy when you spend tax money on social services of an equal or greater benefit. They get angry when you spend tax money to line your pockets with gold.

Under rating threshold (show) Because if you do it too often then people are unhappy with you (basic reasons would include a lack of focus on your job, tiring of seeing your new books on the shelf, etc.) and this results in the book sales sucking and you lose CSP and have wasted energy. Also maybe link activity on bills to your book sales; if no one knows who you are, who'll buy the book?

+ - !

(0)

Developer response from delosford

But then where's the actual gameplay element? I'm just not seeing this as an interesting feature that people will want to use.

Under rating threshold (show) About the facebook note: investigations, you said you'll make different tiers of investigations to target specific scandals and something like counterinvestigations. Someone else suggested recently in comments that investigations to know who's targeting you but I don't know if it's V1.0 or some further future release. Oh and "missions"? What missions? Like skullduggery and stuff?

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

That is a feature planned before I release V1.0

Top12Gun

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Another thought is to allow you to select people and get notifications in your newsfeed when they're mentioned in the Examiner. Such as when you are viewing their profile, you could push a button next to "Skullduggerize" saying "Monitor Events". You could manage who you do this with under investigations or the examiner/info page.

Developer response from delosford

Top12Gun

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Alright. Other than that, I like current missions the way they are. Maybe price the think tank bribe a little lower. Other than that, I like it the way it is. IDEA: In a later version, give us a way to write books, etc. They take a lot of energy, but if successful, provide a varying amount of income each day. You would be able to start a book if you're CT3+, and the chances of it succeeding are dependent upon CSP, and the amount of money, if successful, is dependent upon how much energy was spent on it. You would be able to begin it under campaign management, and spend energy on it under Status page. Maybe, if the book doesn't do well, you lose some CSP each day instead of making money.

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from delosford

I'm not so sure how to balance this feature so that everyone isn't just obsessively writing books all the time.

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Additionally, we should be able to purchase housing, similar to the Lobby, as well as commodities such as cars. These should have a benefit in EOD stress loss, and maybe some other things. They should be highly expensive, but beneficial enough that higher tiers might consider buying them. This might also incentivize players to play the long game, instead of the month-long meth monster. Additionally, the opportunity arises for bad press (and thus, CSP loss) if someone's buying expensive houses but their party has little binary control. ("Why doesn't my congressman care more about representing me than he does about his million dollar house?!")

+ - !

(-2)

Developer response from delosford

Considering there are no actual locations in Clout, this will not be happening. Sorry. There are plenty of incentives for keeping a persistent character already.

Top12Gun

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Read the FB post, and here are my thoughts: 1) I feel like trade should have far more of an impact than it does. So do whatever it takes to make that happen. 2) Good idea. The option for adding to protection should be expensive, and moderately effective. Subtracting from protection should have both a high effectiveness and be super-expensive so it isn't abused. 3) Assassinations should have a higher success chance. 4) YES.

+ - !

(-1)

Developer response from delosford

The success chance of assassinations is quite high. The problem is that people ignore congsec/martial law.

Snover64

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Alternatively, another idea could be Abortion. Starts enabled and legal, and gives a slight health boost in turn for a pop growth penalty. Making it illegal would do the opposite. Conservatives and Socialists would want abortion illegalized (Because seeing the Cons and Socialists work together is always ironically hilarious, plus I could see a justification in how Socialists would want as much poor workers as possible so they support them. A pragmatic reason, basically). Liberals, Libertarians, and Greens would want to keep it legal (Self-explanatory for the first two, and the Greens just like killing people in Clout anyways so what's a few fetuses going to matter for them?)

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from delosford

The problem with a bill to ban this is that for one, it's codified in a supreme court decision. You can't really legislate those away (the ability to do so would basically defeat the purpose of the judiciary). For another, it's a very hot-button topic for many, and has inexorable ties to religion. As I've purposefully divorced the Conservative party in-game from religion, they would be unlikely to support it. That would potentially leave the socialists, but there are just as many instances of extreme population control in the other direction in highly socialized nations. So it's something I couldn't really ascribe to any party very well.

Snover64

Aug. 10, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) If you need an idea for a new binary, you could add the debt ceiling as an issue. It would start enacted and cap debt at X amount of level (Something in proportion to the GDP, most likely), and if its passed, the GDP will shrink. Disabling it would allow for debt to grow larger without penalty, but would occur a consistent minor GDP penalty. Conservatives would be the main party to support it, and both Liberials and Libertarians would be for repealing it. I don't really know where the Greens or the Socialists would fall under the parigram, though.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from delosford

The debt cieling isn't really something that would be well-represented by a binary bill. It's increased incrementally IRL, so it would be added as a normal bill with some corresponding mechanic if it were ever to be introduced.

Under rating threshold (show) How about a more general "investigation" feature, something along the lines of "who keeps trying to assassinate me?" Someone's out for my blood, but a shadow war against a mystery griefer is only fun for a month or two.

I've been considering a counter-investigation feature of some sort. Stay tuned.

Aug. 06, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) Haha, just a thought, but it'd be funny to be able to sway public opinion for/against morally questionable and corrupt actions through hiring people to write books/give speeches/seminars/run TV shows, etc. An example statement would be something like "We all have different ways of dealing with stress, and being a Congressperson is one of the most stressful jobs you could take up. What better way to alleviate it by enjoying yourself and supporting the Sex Worker Industry at the same time, which employs thousands of honest American citizens and/or temporary workers. Obviously, it'd be a gaffe when support for said issues is low, but a congressperson could even gain support when support for the issues are positive, aka when the people put their blindfolds on and look the other way and/or defend the acting individual.

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from delosford

This seems to encompass a lot of stuff. At a basic level I think that tracking public opinion and using it for things in one way or another is a good idea. Not necessarily something I will be implementing soon, though. I really want to get the core mechanics solid, move to V1.0 and then get The Lobby and Clout integrated more strongly before moving The Lobby into Alpha/Beta.

Under rating threshold (show) @magistro, it means it was split from a win bill

Aug. 04, 2013

Under rating threshold (show) What exactly is that [N] next to a lot of Nureth's bills? Is it some sort of speaker of the house power?

+ - !

(2)

Developer response from delosford

It's short for "nopay". Specifically it means the bill for whatever reason will not award clout to the person who introduced it as usual if it is passed. In the current game state, this only occurs if the bill is split from a win bill. Splitting a win bill randomly generates a random number of bills at certain Clout levels from the win bill's party and introduces them to congress under the name of the person who introduced the win bill.

At Clout Tier 1, you will mostly be playing to pass bills or voting in committees and such. Those bills affect the nation at large, and also potentially other players.
