I'm human but new players be aliens so I can kill you please ;D - Both sides are fairly balanced in my opinion, the weaponset just caters to somewhat different strategies.

I destroyed every single type of enemy alien ship I let my friendly unit weaken it then I destroyed it with laser beam.
