You can win with any characters I think: I just used Alan, Hook and Jack, with Jack casting mainly healing spells.
There is no better armour than that in the dwarven village. You can't buy double attack, you can find it somewhere. I don't remember where exactly, but rather in the beginning, before you get to the drowsy gates, I think.

Beating the big beast is quite easy when you're about level 18. An effective trick in general (apart from making sure that you have lvl 3 bubbles in your armour against fire, ice, poison) is stack a lvl 1, 2 and 3 life bubble in your armour: the effects will stack and give you about 2.5 times your original hit points!

I think you should use Cpt. Hook and the Big Bad Wolf throught the whole game, start with Jack, continue with Pea Princess and when you get the Big Bad Wolf use him all the game, if you want very good advice, whisper me (don't shout me) and I'll give you my good advice, do not comment or shout it to anybody else and only whisper it to people, unless you really wanna ruin stuff, I don't really care now since I'm already through this game and I like to comment from time to time though I don't want that advice to be ruined

Finished it. Went with Alan, Wolf and Witch. Double Attack and counter-attack on Wolf. Put the hurry bubble on the witch. (although it's useful on the wolf earlier in the game)
Kill Vincent and stock up on Total Elixir (all team stats to 100%) and cure potions before attacking princesses. They're immune to almost every effect, so you'll need a primarily physical attack.

Anyone has advice on which characters to take? Or at least what they're good at. I know the following:
Hook: Melee tank
Jack: Caster
Witch: Caster+debuffer on attacks (weapon)
Princess Pea: ??? Balanced caster-fighter perhaps?

Bug: Holy Bubble has a text description of for armor, but cannot be equipped in armor.
Usability: Clicking escape never works, Holding escape always works. Clicking it should work, but with a randomizer on it. (50% escape, 25% escape with damage, 25% stand and fight)

The music reminds me of nothing like Dark Cloud, are you kidding? The soundtrack to Dark Cloud was fantastic. This... no.

it takes a while to load the 'action' bar in battle and the footsteps do sound like someones tapping lightly on the open end on an empty jod or jar...

@dfgfhg There's nothing that heals instantly your party except potions, and if you're that outta money, you must be really bad, I suggest to gain a few lvls and get new armor and weaps before you open the drowsy gate, or else this actually might be your problem

is there a palce that instantly heals all ur party members?i only found spells and potions so far what happens if i got no money to buy potions and no DP to use heal?

@pyroape: access the small ingame menu moving the mouse on the "arrow" icon and click che "?" button. Some characters will tell you some useful things about your current mission. :)

I keep finding myself returning to this game. I have yet to just sit and beat it. Is there an option somewhere like a journal that will tell you what mission you're on? Sorry, it's been a while since I've played. Love it thou.

hwieldr theres a auto save feature that starts you back at the beginning of when you entered a town or left a town,maybe at some other points too

eladinbar's right about using Cpt. Hook and the Big Bad Wolf, they don't run into elemental weapon issues and they have great base damage potential

Just get the best equipments and use Cpt. Hook, Big Bad Wolf and good bubbles, use Turbo, Counter Strike, Double Strike, I think you can get one from the holes in the last boss's place you don't have to fight him so calm down
