Buy the Tank and the best gun, also the best rocket ack and some nukes. Shoot the turtle out of the tank. Now wait till he doesn't go into space anymore, let him bump the ground one more time, then shoot at the turtle. Rinse and repeat until out of ammo. Use the nukes and the rocket pack to go a bit further and foremost: look out for more ammo.

I like the Mario inspired gameplay. It's very innovative. Could do fine without gore and blood, just saying that for the younger audience.
